Pros: Great view from the upper level of our unit. Friendly staff. Lots of things to do close by. Can even walk to the beach. Tennis courts, pools. Plenty of parking by our unit. Large unit with a full kitchen which saved is a ton of money as opposed too eating out. Washer/dryer combo in unit which saved us as well. We packed very lightly which saved us money on checked in luggage and was easier on the back. They have a complimentary card to their DVD stand (think RedBox) which had a lot of movies and some games. Cons: Very late check in time of 4pm which is rough when you get in on an early flight and didn't get much sleep the night before. Front desk closes at 7pm. On arriving, they explained that there is an additional $200 check out cleaning fee, plus a credit card charge of $150 for incidentals (the $150 would be returned if nothing came up). This want included in the price I agreed to when I booked the place. There is no daily made service (understandable if you are in a condo but have been in condos where that was offered). Apparently, the units are individually owned which explains the diverse reviewed. Some are updated, some are not. Some have air condition and some do not. Ours was pretty dated. There was an air condition unit for the master but fans for the rest of the unit (not all the fans were fully functional). Don't like the slatted doors for the bedrooms, and even the bathrooms - no privacy for private matters. Although the kitchen has the basics you would expect (plates, silverware, serving and kitchen utensils - a pro) the quality was certainly not high end and some pieces were falling apart. Also, there was pepper but the salt was empty. We encountered a few lizards and huge cockroach in the unit but is not too shocking considering the climate and louver windows. Pools were just typical hotel type pools, nothing fancy if that matters to anyone except one pool does have a nice view. All in all, although the cons seemed to outweigh the pros, it didn't ruin the trip. If I was booking the trip again knowing what I know now, not sure I would book the same place. For me, not knowing what you are getting would push me to book...
Read moreThe Aston at Poipu Kai Kauai was a downright terrible experience. When my boyfriend and I arrived at the front desk we were asked to sign a contract that stated we would be charged an additional $180 cleaning fee to the room even though the reservation/booking contract never stated that and I had paid in full through a 3rd party booking site. When we asked about the charge the receptionist then printed out a final breakdown of all the charges which came to an additional $367 charge for a 2-night stay. Since this was nearly double what we had already paid, we said if this is the case we cannot stay here (it was wildly out of our budget). We made an ammendment to the contract in which the receptionist encouraged us to do and informed me that the manager will contact me on Monday and review the accuracy of my contract before charging my card an additional amount. The manager never called me on Monday and charged my account the additional $367. When I followed up on Thursday the receptionist, Kaysha, asked to see the contract, and when I sent it to her, she agreed that there was nothing in my contract that stated this and informed me the manager will call back when she could and couldn't guarantee a refund but assumed so. The manager never called back. So when I followed up on Friday, Kaysha told me I would have to ask for a refund from the 3rd party, even thought the 3rd party is not who charged me it was the Aston at Poipu Kai as a direct charge on my account. She finally agreed to transfer me to the manager who didn't answer and then when I called back they didn't answer. I would highly recommend only booking this place if you are financially equipped to pay double what you were expecting to pay. Not only is this illegal under the, Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees Act, it's also incredibly unethical and unfair to treat your...
Read moreRead more1 Aston at Poipu Kai is a property management company and not a hotel chain|2 We booked an airbnb type of accommodations with Aston . The main aim was to take part in the Kauai Marathon and we wanted to stay somewhere close by|3 The apt we got was a disaster . The temperature and humidity was so high during the week .The marathon was on September 1st. There was no air-condition thro the apt , only a portal ac was kept in the bedroom which barely cooled the place . The fans in the room barely rotate , just circulating the hot air! When we bought that to the attention of the management , they said that "oh we are a NON AC property management company" which is totally baseless, this is Kauai!!!! , It is not mentioned at all in the website! So we were not able to use the front room , kitchen or anything else except the bedroom due to the heat and humidity|4 The apt given was on level 1 and stairs to that were too steep, We had to carry our luggage up the stairs!!! If this was the deal then we should have been told upfront about it , we could have chosen something else more comfortable|We stayed at the KAHALA 1901 Poipu Road, Unit 922 , posting this here so that it helps folks decide ! We also found a dairy which mentioned this air-condition issue way back in 2019!!!|Also pls note that we paid 880 dollars for two days!!! 440 for single day with no air conditioning! Making it the most expensive rentals ever!!!!|Having said this the front desk person Kaysha and John(the maintenance person) were very customer friendly and helpful. They provided us with two fans which did not help at all|In a nutshell be careful of what you are given , ask about the AC and also the stairs ! There is no use of having a big apt if you can use only the bedroom and have to carry your luggage thro...
