I’ll start with the good: comfortable, clean rooms, washer and dryer, nice pool area, friendly staff (for the most part...90% of the staff made me feel like family... especially restaurant and gift shop staff. one or two people don’t belong in customer service at all and one was a manager). Restaurant food is excellent although expensive: stick with the daily specials and you can’t go wrong, felt safer than the other hotel options in Kayenta. I like that the rooms have a tub/shower instead of just a shower. All rooms have a fridge but you must request a microwave.
Now for the bad: worst internet access EVER. If you’re here for work and need internet you will either spend time being frustrated as hell or pay five bucks to upgrade. Hopefully you can get reimbursed. I’ve been in six hotels in the last three months and this is the only hotel I have had internet issues with. Also their fax and copy machine in the business center don’t work. They offered to do it themselves for me in their back office which was kind but I’m not allowed to let anyone else handle this material so, useless to me. I’ve been given wrong and conflicting information by different staff members often and that has been frustrating. The gift shop is overpriced and houses lots of imported goods that are not made locally. Pretty items, but if you’re looking for Navajo culture and items find a roadside or attraction side vendor. I appreciated the honesty of the gift shop staff in letting me know the items were imported and not local.
Still probably the best option in Kayenta. If you’re coming for vacation and can spend an extra hundred or so a night I recommend The View hotel in Monument Valley. For budget trips this Hampton Inn is the best and safest place but it’s popular with tour groups so be prepared to fight for the free breakfast... or get...
Read moreWarning, even though this hotel was wonderful, one of the best we've stayed in, (great room, great staff, great service), the location is sketchy. When you check in, they warn you to bring in all your belongings and your bike from your car. There is continual recorded alerts sounding through the parking that says "you are being recorded, leave the premises immediately". We could hear it all night long going off while we were trying to sleep. We spoke to a few people, two of them being local security guards, not the security guards on the premises. They all stated that crime in the area is very bad. Even though the hotel has a security guard walking the parking lot, they stated that cars are still broken into. One person who is staying there long-term stated that his friend's car was broken into a few weeks ago, the window was busted and all their stuff was stolen. Again, choose this hotel at your own risk. We stayed one night and canceled the second night because of our concerns. We weren't able to bring all of our belongings into the hotel, it was impossible. I want to clarify again that the hotel was wonderful, everything about it, the restaurant, the gift shop, the staff, the cleanliness. We loved everything about it, except for the worry for our vehicle in the parking lot and the stuff that we had to leave in it. There were many people who stayed there. One thing we had going for us that it was very, very cold and it rained and snowed. There is a huge, dark, barren field surrounding the hotel on at least two sides with housing beyond that. The lighting surrounding the hotel is not good at all either. More lighting could potentially be beneficial. Wish it was...
Read moreI booked my room at Hampton Inn Kayenta based on the Hilton Honors rate quoted on the Hilton website. Today it's quoted at $200. Yesterday it was $154. When I booked it was $140. However, when I checked out of the hotel, I was charged the full rate of $289. Never mind that it is literally impossible to book a room at that rate, that is what I was charged. When I complained, I was treated unsympathetically by the hotel staff and by Hilton. If you do stay at the hotel, be sure to scrutinize the rate quoted at the top of the document you are presented when you check in. I was told because I signed it without reading it, I agreed to the rate as presented when I walked into the hotel regardless of the reservation I booked. I travel frequently for work and for pleasure and have never had an experience like this. Moving forward I will stay at the Kayenta Monument Valley Inn. It's quieter there anyway.
Update: I just called the phone number provided and spoke with the manager of the Kayenta Hampton Inn who was not helpful and not willing in any way to assist in resolving the issue. Even though it is not possible on any website to book at this hotel at the rack rate of $286.54, which I was charged by Hampton Inn Kayenta, including Hilton's website, the manager believes the rate to be fair. I can only suggest you either don't stay at this hotel or scrutinize your documentation very carefully on check-in before you hand over your...
