Having been here in 2019 we wanted to try again. Booked a garden room at a good rate and upon check in was given a two room upgrade to an oceanview room on 2nd floor. For the age the rooms still look nice and clean and well maintained. Was given great welcome amenities as celebrating wife’s birthday. Was given a bottle of wine , chocolate cake and a cheese plate. Housekeeping was some hit and miss. Some days they did not empty our garbage and other days they did things haphazardly like not giving enough water or enough face clothes. One day we requested turn for 6:30 and they called me at 6:00 to see if they could come then. I was still getting ready for dinner. ||1) Dining under the stars. Pricey at 1,500 per couple but you get to eat under the big hibiscus tree. Our server said this is Mr. Ellisons’s spot and only gets used for these dinners and need prior approval. Server was great and had a very good custom menu. Would recommend if special occasion. 5/5|2) we decided to try a pool sanctuary as were able to book the one for the above area where we had dinner. It took a full day to get permission before they could approve our rental for the day. I would not recommend this as they were unsure of what was included in the price. We showed up at 9 and did not find out until I complained that service started at 11:00 am. We had to ask to get them to set up an umbrella. Jay the manager came by after I fired off a chat to the front desk. He came by and advised what was included in the rental for 800 usd ( one champagne or four drinks, a fruit plate and choice of one appetizer and a Four seasons amenity) and that we could order some food over hay was included as long as it was not outrageous and he would sneak it in as an amenity. The Four Season amenity was two eyeglass cleaners and two aloe water sprays for skin. When the bill came nothing was adjusted and despite only having 3 drinks and not having our appetizer as we elected to have two mains and an order of ice cream we had to pay for all this extra food. I did not want to bring it up as He made the promises and thought He would follow through. Also, it was a Sunday and from 1:00 pm onwards some local yokels were blasting their music from the public beach area so loud you could hear it from where we were sitting from over 700 meters away. The music was so loud I could make out the words to all the songs. I realize this is on a public beach but this went on for four hours and someone could have called the authorities as it clearly states on Lanai beach rules that this is not allowed. This happened as well on the Tuesday but only for 1/2 hour. Save your money and avoid the sanctuary and do something else on a Sunday unless you like loud music to relax to. 0/5. Pool area 4/5. Staff hit and miss and best staff Carmelita, Jordan and Kamele. |3) shooting rifle range. This was a highlight. We were able to spend an hour with Frankie and he taught hot to use a 22 rifle and shot at targets. Would definitely recommend along with pistol or skeet which we did in the past. 5/5 |4) restaurants. Mozza Osteria is now closed due to renovations until August. Ok Italian but would it kill them to give some bread with the meal. Nobu is basic Japanese food and nothing special. Malibu Bar overcooked our fish tacos and at night during the renos they have dinner and there was only 5 entrees of which only one was fish that my wife could eat. The Break is the best. Staff friendly and food ample. Menu big and I would suggest eating here everyday during any stay. Rest 3/5 but the Break 5/5 |5) ranch hand experience. Awesome. Jessie the farmhand was great and you get to feed the crazy goats and massage the donkeys who just love this. This is complimentary. 5/5. Also do not forget to visit Griffin the parakeet. Stop by and say hello. Also, he loves music and will dance to it. ||Overall 4/5. Rooms still nice and quiet. Great selection of activities. Nice and quiet resort unless the locals blast their music but food not as good unless you eat at the Break. Will most likely not be back as too many other resorts to visit in the world especially for the prices...

Update 2: I finished my stay, and it’s really a mix of feelings. The hotel facilities and views are top-notch, and the island is great. I had a good experience with all the activities and the spa.

However, a huge mistake happened with my luggage. I arrived at my room around 2 pm and asked about my luggage. They said it would be delivered soon. I had an activity at 3 pm and wanted my luggage to change clothes or take a quick shower. However, 20 minutes passed, still no luggage. I had to go for my activity. I went to the front desk and asked again, and they said it would be delivered immediately, but I decided to skip changing clothes as the shuttle had arrived.

At 4:20 pm, when I returned to the hotel, my luggage still hadn’t arrived. I called the bell desk and said it had been over two hours, and I needed to shower, change clothes, and go to the beach. The staff replied, "It will be delivered to you now," without any apology or explanation. It felt strange, as if they didn’t care it has been 2 hours.

I kept waiting. Another 20 minutes passed—still no luggage, no calls, nothing. I called the bell desk again and said it had been about three hours. The most shocking part came when the staff said something like, “I’ll report it. Five minutes. Bye bye,” and HUNG UP on me before I could say anything. Just like the email situation earlier, they never admitted any mistakes or apologized, which was very shocking to me. Then I went to the front desk and literally shouted in the lobby, asking where my luggage was.

Then the manager, Troy, arrived, and everything changed. He immediately admitted the mistake, apologized, and put my things a top priority. After about 20 minutes, they found it—it had been delivered to another room. He had a very good attitude and sincerely apologized for all the mistakes. It was the first time during my stay that I truly felt Four Seasons-level service. Some hotels might offer guests freebies as compensation without truly feeling sorry, but from Troy, I really felt his genuine apologies, and he made me feel, for the first time, treated as a valued guest.

Before Troy arrived, I felt that the service was lacking in details— like no introduction to the parrot and fish pond, even though guests are sometimes given fish food to feed the fish or interact with the parrots.

However, I assumed I was just unlucky. During a horseback riding tour, Two guests need to change the Lanai-to-Honolulu flight and leave right now because of their schedule chnage. The hotel quickly adjusted their flight and even sent a UTV to pick them up mid-trail. They may not leave a review, so I wanted to share this experience for them.

I am extremely satisfied with everything after Troy arrived, but it also makes me sad that all of this happened only after I shouted in the lobby, rather than from the beginning. Before Troy, I told the hotel three times that my luggage was missing, and I received no response. A misdelivery is not a big deal, but they made no effort at all for three hours... Although I eventually felt 100% satisfied, I can't give it a perfect score.

Update 1: On the second day, I received an email from another person apologizing for their mistakes and finally stopped indicating me has an understanding problem.

Original: I just had the most painful communication with the concierge I've ever experienced in my life. I am about to make a stay, but my email exchange with the concierge (experience planner) has left me very disappointed. A simple activity booking took 11 emails to complete. Every reply was different from the previous one, and I became more confused with each message. (I omitted the email summary here. I originally included it to show that it is clearly their mistake, not a misunderstanding on my part.)

When I finally finished the reservation, they did not apologize for their clear mistakes. Instead, they blamed me for misunderstanding their instructions. The first correct information came in the sixth email. This is absurd and I have never experienced such poor communication at a Four...

P is for PERFECTION IN PARADISE!

My husband and I recently spent five nights at The Four Seasons Resort Lanai . We have traveled all over the world staying at luxury hotels and it was one of BEST hotel experiences we ever had.

Larry Ellison of Oracle who bought the the island of Lanai - must have said, “ I don’t care what it cost, I only want the best of everything. ”

It was also named best hotel in the United States.

Why is it PERFECT? The food, service, accommodations, staff and surroundings were all fabulous!

I have never seen landscaping and gardens so lush throughout the property. It is truly breathtaking! The gardens densely-planted feature more than 700 species of tree, shrub and plant species including palms, bamboos, ferns, orchids, ginger and bromeliads. There are 30 gardeners to maintain this tropical paradise featuring koi ponds and waterfalls.

FOOD: One Forty Restaurant has not only amazing food but a gorgeous view! Thank you to Loretta, the lovely Restaurant Manager who made us feel so special and knows how to run a great restaurant. I told her she will go far with Four Seasons Hotels. To our servers, Ferlyn, Charise , Chris, Sou, and Mariza thank you for your wonderful attentive service. Helen was our waitress every morning for breakfast who was fantastic ! Every meal including breakfast and dinner was of the highest quality and beautifully prepared. To the Hostesses- Analie and Merry Lou thank you for your service. We had the pleasure of meeting the Chef, Andrea who makes all this great food happen!

We also enjoyed Nobu at the hotel with Madoka as our waiter.

Sean Forte the Assistant F & B director was so kind to us and is responsible for all the great food and drinks.

Loved going to Nobu at the other Four Seasons Hotel -20 minutes away. The atmosphere at the restaurant there was beautiful and the food was delicious. Thank you to our server John. Be sure to go there one night.

Malibu Farm is lovely for a delicious outdoor lunch and we had great service by Medigale.

ACCOMODATIONS: The furnishings were stunning. Spa like bathroom featured a Toto toilet that heats up! Great views of the ocean from out balcony. How about the $400 Dyson hairdryer that dried my hair in 5 minutes.

Housekeeping was so attentive to all our requests. Our room was serviced 2x a day to PERFECTION!

THE BEACH: What a magnificent beach! Lounge chairs with umbrellas are provided for all guests. The service at the beach was beyond amazing providing fabulous service. Thank you to Jay, A.J. and Renzy. Their was an outdoor shower to rinse off and the attendants even wrapped a towel around me after using the shower. Food service is also provided at the beach.

POOLS: The pools were surrounded by lush landscaping and cascading flowers. Thank you to Julie and Kulya for your service at the pools. We would go to the beach first and end the day at the adult pool. There were plenty of pool chairs and even had complimentary cabanas facing the beach in the gardens.

BELLMEN: Thanks to Neal, Lester and Dean for your marvelous service. Lester drove us to Nobu at Four Seasons Sensei and gave us a great tour of the island along the way. Daniel picked us up at Lanai Airport to take us the hotel and had a great personality!

RECEPTION/AMBASSSADORS: Everyone there was so helpful and attentive including Evelina and Connie. Thanks to A.J.- Front Office Supervisor for being so special and handsome too! (HA!) Michael in Engineering came to our room to help fix my husband’s lap top get faster internet. A big thanks to Livia the Lana'i Experience Planner for making all my restaurant reservations and activities. She was so helpful in answering all my questions too.

SPA: Most amazing Spa. We loved the massage called- Oceanic Stone Lomi- Lomi. Thanks to our wonderful therapists Susana and Tomomi. The Spa Supervisor- Lindsey, was so kind and ran a great Spa.

If you want a MAGNIFICENT resort in Hawaii- book The Four Seasons...
