We stayed at this Hyatt House location for 5 nights, I was traveling with my husband and 2 month old infant. We were in Lansing to visit family/friends. We are world of Hyatt loyalists with globalist status as we appreciate the Hyatt loyalist rewards, consistency and product associate with Hyatt. We specifically booked this property in a “suite” to have a full kitchen as I am breastfeeding/pumping so I needed access to a dishwasher, fridge/freezer and sink. The room itself was nice and clean, the location is great by the MSU campus. We got checked in efficiently and were pleased. After that it went downhill for the remainder of our stay. We were not informed that housekeeping is typically only every 3 days. I noticed after coming back to our room halfway through the second day that our room hadn’t been cleaned. So upon leaving a couple hours later I stopped by the front desk and requested housekeeping as we had dirty diapers in our trash cans that were starting to smell. We also needed things for the kitchen area so I could properly clean by babies bottles and my breast pump parts (dishwashing detergent, dish sponge and more dish rags). We came back that evening and our room still hadn’t been cleaned. I called down and requested our room be cleaned but was informed there was no one available. I asked for a manager and was told there was no manager there. The next day I again stopped by the front desk and requested housekeeping noting that it was very important as we were traveling with a baby. They promised to notify housekeeping and that would be done. We came back that evening and our room still hadn’t been serviced, my husband stopped by the front desk and was given towels and trash can liners and told we can take out our own trash. At this point I am furious because I am not sure why we are staying in a hotel and can’t get basic services. I called down and again request a manager to be provided the name, number and email address of a supervisor that “might” be there tomorrow morning. I finally call Hyatt corporate and file a complaint at being unable to ensure basic sanitary conditions for us to sleep in and be able to feed my baby. About an hour later an operations manager shows up at our door and apologizes along with towels and dish rags. Finally the third day our room was cleaned. From this point forward we took out our own trash daily, got our own dishwashing detergent and sponge to use in the kitchen area. Throughout the stay we had mysterious charges on our folio that the front desk seemed confused about, they did ultimately all get taken off I believe (I haven’t seen any charges on my card anyways). And lastly one of my nights did not post to my Hyatt account which is another annoying issue I will have to contact Hyatt to get fixed as I am working on maintaining my loyalist status for next year. Overall I love Hyatt, liked the property but the customer service was so awful I plan to pick another property next time we...
Read moreOver the past 24 years I’ve stayed over 1000 nights in various hotels across the country for work and for pleasure. I’ve never been accused of being a bad guest until last night.
I’ve stayed at this Hyatt House at least 7 nights over the past 6 months and at the AC hotel connected to it several times as well during that time.
Last night at around 9:30 the front desk called accusing me of jumping up and down and being way too loud. Mind you, I’m visiting Lansing for work and was up at 4am and didn’t get back to the hotel from work until 7:30pm. I was exhausted and welcomed being back in the room. I did not appreciate being accused of stomping and making loud noises when I was doing the opposite - sitting at the desk working on my computer and trying to enjoy dinner. I was very clear with the front desk that I did not appreciate the accusation - in hindsight I should not have been so irritated when they called.
An hour or so later I heard ruckus in the hallway, a family was being a little loud, stomping and slamming doors and speaking a foreign language with what sounded like children under the age of 10. As a family man myself I did not want to call and mention that I believe I found the source of the noise.
And believe me I should have. After falling asleep around 10:45 there was a knock on the door. It was the Lansing Police Department.
They told me I had to leave immediately. Of course I complied but I was in my underwear and asleep so it was very unpleasant to have to leave this way.
The family making noise seemed to be speaking Arabic, and clearly my name is of Arabic descent and I wonder if that was why the hotel staff thought it must be me making the noise.
The good news is I quickly found another room somewhere else but the bad news is that an innocent person was disregarded at the whim of a hotel employee that did not bother to come to our floor and investigate what was going on.
Maybe if they had they would have heard the loud family and realized I’m just a dude who stays to himself and stays quiet. I learned my lesson though - when a hotel accuses you of something you did not do, just acquiesce, do not argue, do not use bad language, and just say “sorry”. Im sorry if I upset anyone with my combative denial of any wrong doing but you ruined my night for no good reason and I did not deserve that treatment.
I’m confident that as the hotel investigates this more they will realize it was a case of false accusation where the accused was just tired and irritated with the false accusation and nothing...
Read moreThe Hyatt House Lansing / University Area is New construction & built at a great location, however, it is Poorly managed and critically understaffed. You can observe Managers walking around dressed nice, however, when you have a concern, I have yet to see them exemplify their motto “We care for people so they can be their best” or exemplify the basic concept of hospitality & going above & beyond to make the hotel guests feel taken care of.
This is not a hotel that makes you feel valued or gives you an unforgettable guest experience. I have actually received better customer service at Starbucks than here.
Bottom line, they are a hotel giant with the business goals of maintaining high occupancy with minimal staff. Hence the reason why staff are arrogant, rude, unpleasant and have attitudes. I don’t think anyone truly likes their job at Hyatt. In addition, the majority of their Housekeeping staff do not speak English so this creates a barrier forcing guests to communicate via a translation app.
So, here is my brutally honest review:
My impression was ruined from the moment I checked-in. They gave me a deactivated key, so I had to walk all the way back to the front desk for a new key.
The hotel floor hallways were noisy from guests & there was a lingering marijuana smell.
The hotel rooms are terribly unclean. The carpet in the hotel room was dirty and smelled like mildew. You do not want to walk barefoot. The carpet was poorly vacuumed with food particles left in plain sight.
The shower floors are filthy and there was soap scum on the shower doors. They don’t include personal bathroom supplies like shower caps, Q-tips, cotton balls etc
Housekeeping never cleaned or refreshed my room during my stay, except when it was time to check-out they were disruptively banging on my door.
There is No jacuzzi in the pool area which could have easily been included in the new-construction building plans.
They charge an hourly rate for parking in the lot. For example 8-hours is $10. There are some limited spaces that allow 2-hour parking for free.
In conclusion, i do not recommend this hotel so I’m leaving a 1-star review. if I could give it no stars I would. I’m not asking for anything free, I’m just looking for an improved hotel guest experience.
In addition, I think they buried the price of the “Complimentary Breakfast” into the hotel rates because nothing about this place is worth spending $130+ per night on a hotel room. These hotel prices should start at $75
I hope my review...
