PLEASE DONT BOOK HERE! Like you are probably doing now, I checked reviews because few hotels in the area had good ratings. This place had decent reviews about cleanliness etc. but I wouldnt give this place 1/10th of a star! Yes there were cheaper rooms at unknown hotels/motels nearby, but I figured a reputable name like Best Western with clean and good reviews was worth the little extra for peace of mind when I booked over a month ago. This was not a vacation, we needed lodging for my son's graduation from basic training. This hotel was 3.5 miles from Fort Sill so we booked over a month ago and planned on a very specific budget with specific accomodations after that. We had limited space in our SUV and we didnt bring pack n plays since this room had cribs. Very specific logistics, accomodations, and budgeting went into this trip to make it work. After 20hr drive through 5 states, we checked in. The room wasnt what I had expected but it was ok. What we really did not expect was RODENTS! Yes, the room had been cleaned, but when my spouse put his head on the pillow and moved it, he found rodent droppings in the bed. Meaning its in the room on the loose. We further inspected the room and found feces everywhere....counters, furniture, etc. We didnt notice immediately because the room has dark decor and dim lighting with only 1 window and the bed linen is white so it caught his eye. When we told the manager, she did not seem surprised and her response was, "Will you be checking out then?" I called the main customer service line for BW and they all insinuated that our cancellation and refund was a courtesy from their part because it is last minute and they dont have another room! Ok, whose fault is that? We also found a 3cm dead roach under window A/C, which is the least of my concerns. The room smelled like a bar, and as we gathered our semi unpacked belongings a huge fat roach (not palmetto kind) came across the ottoman with its antenna wiggling in the air like it was just checking things out. So here we were stranded 1250+ miles from home on a budget with twin 10mos old and no crib/pack n play (who were beyond exhausted and now crying in meltdown mode), our 11yr old, and my son's girlfriend...with only an apology and the audacity of them stating the obvious "its last minute to find a hotel" like its our fault they had rodents. Anyway, as we checked out, several other guests were complaining of the same issues. Fortunately 4hrs later (2hrs dealing with BW and 2hrs driving) we found a hotel 20-30mins away ftom our destination. We left FL at 8pm Tue and after an arduous search we found an alt room by 8pm Wed!
So my suggestion: save your time, money, sanity, and health. Book at Hampton Inn located in Duncan off N Hwy 81. Its 20-30mins away and maybe $5-10 more a night, but super pristine clean and odor free rooms. No bugs, no rodents, very comfortabke room. Nice staff! Free bkfst. The clerk (she is not even the manager) tried to make things right for us after our ordeal with Best Western AND they arent the ones that did anything wrong, yet went above and beyond! Never again will I ever book at a Best Western for several reasons now, but their lack of accountability and service! Thank you Hampton Inn for your exceptional customer service, its evident Best Western has a lot to learn in both customer service and...
Read moreWe enjoyed our 2 week stay for a few reasons: it was convenient to our destinations in the area, the room was on ground floor located near our entrance which was very important to me as I am recovering from a broken foot, our room was quiet away from the main highway, its size was great as we had a lot of family come in to visit. We were in town for my Dad's memorial celebration for life so having a nice place to stay was a priority. Our kids enjoyed the pool so much when they stayed for a couple of days in another room. My Aunt, Uncle and cousin also got a room there since the price was right and the place had very good ratings in addition to our recommendation. My husband and I travel quite a bit with at least 3 main trips during the year so having a comfortable place to stay is one of our main concerns. The bed was comfortable, we had plenty of pillows, and the bathroom was a nice size, but, the shower wasn't the greatest with low water pressure. We had a family cook-out by the pool which turned out great. The breeze was blowing and it was not as hot under the shade by the pool. Best Western has always had high expectations for their businesses so I expected a lot from this place. Drawbacks include, first of all the internet connection sucked: quite frankly, it was difficult to connect to the server because there were too many on the web at one time so the server kept kicking people off right in the middle of what they were watching or doing, and then they have to go back to square one to get on again, sometimes with no results except repeatedly making the attempt or giving up entirely cause you're too tired to fight it anymore. Secondly, the TV went off when the lights were turned off, so my husband unscrewed the light bulbs when we wanted to watch and we were in the dark. The housekeepers are not diligent in their duties sometimes. We didn't need them every day, but one day we requested our room to be cleaned because we were going to be out the entire day. We saw two housekeepers and requested them both to take care of our room with assurances that it would happen. When we got back later in the day it was not cleaned. The key had to be replaced quite often as it would stop working which was extremely annoying since my husband had to keep going to the front desk for a replacement. There were also a couple of other things not worth mentioning. On the whole though we will recommend this place and plan to return in the future . The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was really good, the housekeepers were patient with us as well when we did not wish to be disturbed, and the security guards were also polite and helpful, the pool was well maintained, the maintenance men were also on top of getting the pool ready for swimming again after it had...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here July 27-28, 2013. The lady at the front desk was very personable and professional. Our room was on the second floor and the hallway to it was hot, humid and there was visible water damage to parts of the ceiling. There were several people with rather large breed dogs wandering around and the hallway smelled like a nice mixture of wet dog, mildew and sweat. We got to our room and it was much smaller than anticipated and smelled like a horrible job was done trying to cover up never cleaned carpet and cat pee. I immediately called the front desk and Alisha was very nice and immediately offered another room. I went down to trade room keys and on my way down I took the stairs that brought me by the vending machines. The lower floor hallway was so bad smelling that I nearly lost my dinner and tried to hold my breath as I ran to get out of it. I am sincerely concerned for the health of anyone who stayed on the bottom floor by entrance 'A', the carpet were clearly not vacuumed (stairs and hall) and the hall had a fan blowing on it to dry, however, it smelled like it had been flooded and air dried with mold fragrance. There is no doubt that a health inspector needs to come ensure that customers/employees are safe. I also noticed that the 'secure' entry door (for easier room access ) was held open by a rag and was not secure. I got the keys with no issue and returned to our new room across the hall. The room did not have that 'freshly peed' smell so we stayed. The air unit was from decades ago and was filthy. It smelled better, but it certainly was not something I'd say was worth $40 per night, much less $90. Overall, even the better smelling areas still had a musky odor. Sunday morning we had breakfast and it was the standard breakfast you get at any other hotel that costs over $35/night, only here you can't eat without your voucher. Renata (I believe was her name) was the kitchen hostess and was very sweet and did a great job. It was nice seeing someone taking pride in their job.
The people I met who are employed here were professional and seemed very nice. My complaint is not with them, my complaint is with the condition of the hotel. It's hard to know if this is an issue of lazy housekeeping and maintenance or if this is a case of the employees need tools and resources to do their job and the owner/GM is not making these resources available. Due to health and safety reasons as well as financial I would not recommend this hotel, but would actively campaign against it until issues are addressed. The bottom line is that if you want to charge $90 (roughly) per night, then you need to have $90/night standards. I've stayed at $25/night hotels that...
