We were guests at the Verdict tonight for dinner. The rooftop bar is wonderful. While the view looks out on a back parking lot, the sunset was beautiful. They were only open to guests of the restaurant and for complimentary champagne until they work out all the kinks. I hope they eventually serve tavern-style food up there because that was the best location. Once we got to the restaurant, the host was wonderful. He told us some of the history of the courthouse while we waited for our table. They were very accommodating to combine our reservations with our friends and all the staff were polite and wonderful, continually checking on our table. The tables are small and close together. The drinks were delicious. Our table ordered the Parker rolls, while I didn't have them, they didn't look like anything special for the calories so I decided not to indulge. The Cesar salad was good but could have used a little more dressing. The salad dressing did taste freshly made. There was a large break between our appetizer /salads and dinner. My halibut was delicious. Needs to be served with a spoon but our server was wonderful and got one out to me right away. The sides are shareable but nothing special. All the food was cold/lukewarm. Especially the potatoes. I believe another review said that as well. They do need to look into that. We wish them all the success and we know it is challenging to go to a restaurant the first couple weeks they open and expect it to be superb as they need to iron out all the kinks. The one thing that needs to be changed immediately, and I feel horrible because they had to have spent a lot of money on the ones they had, were the chairs. Oh my, uncomfortable! We were there about two hours and I couldn't sit a second longer. This deterred us from getting dessert or coffee because we just couldn't sit any longer. Other people said the same thing, including the waitstaff that said they had to complete orientation on these chairs. My back is still sore and we left two hours ago from those chairs...the most uncomfortable thing in my life! Please look to change them...
Read moreMy husband and I went to The Abner for a quick overnight birthday getaway. We had recently heard about the new hotel and were intrigued by its setting (an old courthouse). We arrived for check in and were greeted promptly and shown around the hotel, before being taken to our room. We had a large room with a king bed, couch and a small table with chairs. The decor is unique and the incredibly large windows provided so much light. In case it’s important for any future travelers, the rooms don’t have TVs. My only complaint about the room would be that there is not adequate storage for clothing. We only stayed one night so we packed lightly. There is an area for hanging items, but there is not a dresser or drawers of any sort. We visited Verdict (the rooftop bar) for drinks before dinner. It’s a great space with a variety of seating options, interesting cocktails and nice views. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant which is in the old courtroom. It was quite busy for a Sunday night. We started with house made potato chips and French onion dip and also shared the grilled peaches. For entrees we tried the halibut with ginger lobster sauce and steak frites. Portions were really generous and the food was very good. The service was overall good, but spotty at times. The starters came quickly but we waited quite a bit for the entrees. The lamp on the table was leaking oil all over so that had to be taken care of (required removing everything from the table and wiping all the oil off). While doing so one of the servers removed my husband’s silverware and forgot to replace it. When our food arrived it took some doing to flag someone down to get the silverware replaced. He ordered a glass of wine to accompany his dinner and it seemed to have been forgotten (it did finally arrive after asking the server again). None of these were major problems and since the hotel has only been open for 8 days, the service should continue to improve. All the staff members we encountered were very friendly and welcoming. It’s a very unique space and seems like a great addition to the area. I...

My hubby and I recently enjoyed a delightful two-night stay at The Abner Hotel in Litchfield, CT, while picking up our daughter from Nutmeg Conservatory (a super convenient 10-minute drive!). This hotel is truly a quaint and beautifully styled gem.
The staff here are simply incredible and accommodating. Every interaction was a pleasure. A special shout-out to Stephanie at breakfast – she is an absolute true gem, so nice, helpful, and a joy to visit with each morning!
We stayed in a superior queen room, which, while small, perfectly fit our needs. The room was very comfortable and impeccably clean. The full-size, high-quality toiletries and mini-bar stocked with local treats were a lovely touch. We didn't miss having a TV at all. Our only minor note was that the bed was quite soft, leading to some low back pain for us, but we understand this is a matter of personal preference. If we return, we'd definitely opt for a king room.
The complimentary breakfast was fantastic – a far cry from typical carb-loaded stale pastries! It featured delicious Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, chia puddings, savory frittatas, and fresh muffins. The coffee was exceptional!
We also had dinner at the hotel's restaurant on our first night, and it was outstanding. They were incredibly attentive to our allergy concerns, and the portions were wonderfully generous (we were easily able to split everything). The beet salad was incredibly flavorful, and while our steak frites, ordered medium-rare, came out closer to medium, they were still tender and delicious. The wait staff at dinner were also outstanding.
We would absolutely stay at The Abner Hotel again and highly recommend it to anyone...
