This hotel is cute and right in the centre of town but if you come here on a Wednesday be aware that nearly everything else in town will be CLOSED- which was a bummer for us. We had to walk up to another hotel to eat and that hotel actually ended up looking nicer than this one.
The Alamo itself was nice though and much more central. They give you a palo santo when you check in which was really exciting to me as I love palo santo! However my sister seemed a bit caught off guard that the check in person was a bit prickly.
The double room was small but big enough for 3. The walls are thin and we did hear other people but it wasn’t an issue for us.
The bathroom is the reason this hotel gets less than 5 stars. It was horrible. Shower was leaky and had such intense pressure that it actually hurt my body and got the entire bathroom soaked. It was like showering in a hurricane. The hot water also went in and out- probably due to it being an older hotel.
The outdoor bar is nice and has games and a fire. The fire pit is wood so you have to build your own which I found to be fun. However it shuts down between 9-10pm every night which was disappointing after coming home from dinner and not being able to use it for very long but that was our fault for not...
Read moreDo not stay on a Tuesday/Wednesday. The town closes down on those days, at least during the fall/winter, and there is nowhere to eat except a drive-in. We ended up getting to-go at Charlies for dinner Tuesday night. All the other restaurants except Norman’s were closed. We had our dog and they don’t have outdoor dining and are not pet friendly, so a drive-in was it. ( Burgers looked great, but we weren’t in the mood for that.) This place claims to be pet friendly, but is really only pet tolerant; not allowed to leave the dog in the room alone although we leave him at home without incident. So we left after one night, forfeiting the second night’s charge. Otherwise, we had to drive 20-30 minutes for a decent sit-down restaurant for all meals. ||The staff was friendly and helpful, but not particularly competent. We had to go back to the office to get the wifi password. We had to go back to the office to get glasses to drink our wine (and anything else) because none in the kitchenette. We got three foam coffee cups and a glass jelly jar. When I ran water into the jar, it foamed up with suds. I have no idea what it was but didn’t drink out of it. Being nice and friendly goes...
Read moreI haven't reported this for a week, thinking I would get a letter of explanation or apology or compensation from the owner after I wrote her a letter about our experience. Since nothing has come I shall share our experience with you. The rooms are simple and clean, a basic motel redo. The people in the wine room up front were lovely and helpful. The fire pit at the center of the driveway was a pleasant way to end the evening. We stayed up late. Sleeping in was part of the plan. Well, on Saturday morning at 9ish, two hours before check-out time the outside commotion began. The pest control people and the motor from their truck woke us up. Groggy we all woke up and walked down the road for breakfast. When we returned we walked by the rooms they were cleaning. They had all the beds overturned, mattresses separated as though they were going after bedbugs, not cockroaches. There were no bugs in our room. It was clean. It did not foster confidence in any of us that they were doing pest control in a room without bugs and not just around the edges but underneath and around the beds. I would not...
