I couldn't believe that i had found this jewel! I couldn't believe that this relatively new, modern, upscale hotel was near where I lived, looked how it looked,& offered what it offered. I couldn't believe that it was way more affordable than I thought it would be! Well, this is Hotel Mariposa! I love staying in boutique hotels because they usually have a personal feel you dont get from the chains and HM has exactly that! From the helpful, joyful,& warm staff to the awesomely appointed rooms. I mean, any hotel that provides Peligrino water in the rooms is right up my alley! The lobby is modern, bright,& minimal with colors that make you feel as if you just stepped into a resort in Palm Springs. They offer contactless/self check-in but i wanted to gab it up with the front desk staff and they were awesome! I had gotten their early (around 12pm)and as check-in time isn't until 3pm (which is my only gripe about HM!) I asked about early check-in and they do offer early check-in IF there is a room available for an additional $50 (I think a small price to pay).Well, since there wasn't a room ready I asked if i could use the jacuzzi while I waited to which they were more tha happy to let me use...great customer service! They also have a small snack place with limited hours that serves breakfast, coffee, etc. (including mimosas!) from 6-10am...talk about knowing your clientele! Once in my room...i cant give it enough praise: spacious, modern, dazzling,& well appointed! I mean a fridge,a safe,coffee/tea maker,a clothes steamer,AND robes?!?? Im all about it! The beds were comfortable, the bathroom crisp and modern (that tub was DEEP!), and the amenities provided were top notch. It has below ground parking that is secure and has a security guard round the clock patrolling (It's in a great neighborhood so I like this little added extra touch to make their customers feel just a little better).Theres also a well appointed fitness center with towels and i think bottled water! My one night stay was about $200...again a great price considering everything that this fabulous gem of a hotel provides! If you need a place to stay if you're coming to visit or going to Universal Studios,or just a staycation...give Hotel Mariposa a shot, you will NOT be...
Read moreI’m sorry to leave this review. We still have 1 more night in the hotel. Our 9th. A long stay as it’s one of the closest hotels to our son who has moved to LA. We discussed at check in that we could potentially be frequent customers. However… whilst there were a few matters during our stay that indicated staff were either not trained or were not comfortable or able thinking beyond rather robotic responses, today we experienced the most robotic and not customer friendly approach of all. We asked if we could check out a bit later than 11am due to an 11.30pm flight. We have travelled extensively and been in LA many times. This was the first time we received such a blanket response delivered in the most unfriendly manner. No. Anything after 12 is charged. Is there any room for flexibility? No. Its policy. I’m aware rooms need to be cleaned but I’m writing this review now because I’ve just walked passed housekeeping cleaning rooms at 5.17pm. There are days our room has been cleaned in the afternoon too. After the over 100 or more hotels we’ve stayed in in many years of travelling including in the US, including in LA, we know that with a friendly will there is a way to be slightly more customer friendly. Last L.A. trip, we were initially told we can get a 2.30pm checkout. Without us asking, we were contacted by reception to say they could push it to 4pm. Apologies not later. We’d stayed 3 nights. This time 9 nights. It doesn’t matter so much the hotel charges $3 for water in the room, that staff didn’t know what charges there were to use the room phone nor even that a service issue in our room which we reported on check in was not followed up until 5 days later by which time we’d found away to fix it ourselves. I don’t mind that only a cursory clean is given to the room each day, bedding doesn’t appear to be changed. It wasn’t only the unwillingness to show any flexibility, but the manner it was delivered. Friendly and kind customer service makes such a difference. Especially during such a long stay and to customers who could be...
Read moreWe live about ten blocks from the hotel. We stayed there when our power went out during the recent terrible heat wave.||||As you've heard from other reviews, the hotel is sleek and modern. It's like a Hollywood hotel plunked down in the middle of the Valley. More about that later.||||The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful.||||The location is unexpectedly, subtly kind of great. It's a quick jump to the 101 freeway and anywhere you want to go in LA. But it's also got Hugo's Restaurant, beloved by many in LA, right across the street. Across the street from Hugo's is a futuristic Whole Foods, one of only two in the US where you can check out on your phone, without waiting in line (friendly people will show you how to do this). A few doors down from THAT is Gino's East Pizza, authentic deep-dish Chicago pizza and the only Gino's location in LA. Maybe the only one outside of Chicago itself. ||||So all kinds of great food is a few steps from the hotel. This particular corner, Coldwater and Riverside, is getting hip and the Hotel Mariposa is the newest thing on the scene.||||Here's a couple of local tips: park on the street and save the $20 parking fee. Parking on Riverside is usually pretty easy. One morning we had to go to another block, but parking along Riverside freed up just after that. No way would we pay $20 to park in our neighborhood.||||They first gave us a room overlooking the 101 Freeway, which we didn't care for b/c it's right there. If you're out of town it might be a very LA thing to be looking out on our famous freeway, if that suits you. Anyway they were very understanding about moving us to another room.||||There is an outdoor seating area which again reminded me of Hollywood, but in miniature. The pool is tiny but the gym is new and terrific.||||If I couldn't be in my own home in LA, my second choice would be the Hotel Mariposa. Go there before everyone discovers it...
