We have frequented a great many airbnbs, B&Bs, and hotels over the years. We actually own and manage several Airbnb properties ourselves. It is safe to say we are a bit discerning! I have never stayed anywhere that rivaled Chateau Bourbon. Missy and John have created something out of an absolute dream. Every tiny detail was thought of, every room we saw was perfection (I loved that you could peek into the empty suites to see the other decor styles), the decor had me taking a million pictures to save for inspiration in my own home. There was nothing that did not impress us - even the high quality of the construction of the home itself had my husband (who has renovated many properties) taking notice! I told you, we can be a bit discerning - we notice everything! The icing on the cake was all the little surprises along the way - a guest pantry for snacks and drinks, access to several community pools, and a discount card for virtually every shop and restaurant in Norton Commons. If you haven’t visited this neighborhood before, it is a gem in and of itself and the quintessential setting for a B&B like Chateau Bourbon. A simple walk across the street finds you at Ramsi’s Cafe on the World, an absolute must-try. Boutiques line the sidewalks and you need look no further than next door to find the perfect outfit for the most walkable date night in this picturesque community. With numerous shops and eateries to choose from, you won’t even need to leave Norton Commons during your stay and you won’t want to. All of this is assuming you can drag yourself away from Chateau Bourbon at all! Plush beds, quality bedding, incredible sips and sweets at happy hour, a decadent three course breakfast in the morning, porch swings and fire pits and patios and balconies - did I already say this place was truly dreamy? Lastly I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how accommodating Missy and John were of my food allergies. My husband only had to mention in his online booking that I am gluten free and Missy took care of the rest. I didn’t need to remind anyone or ask if anything was safe to eat - they remembered on their own. And I wasn’t forced to watch my husband enjoy food I couldn’t have while I was served a lesser alternative (as has been my experience in some places). Rather, Missy had already chosen a menu that naturally accommodated a gluten free diet and the one item that wasn’t (French toast! Oh how I have missed French toast!) she had already prepared an identical dish for me using gluten free bread so that I didn’t miss a thing. If you don’t suffer from food allergies or sensitivities, you cannot even imagine how lovely it felt to enjoy everything everyone else was enjoying around me. I think I appreciated that aspect of our stay most of all. We could only get away for one night this time, having young children at home and limited childcare options. By the time we were leaving, we were already discussing what we could figure out for our kids for next year so that we could stay longer for our next anniversary. Oh yes, this was our tenth anniversary celebration! Made all the more special by the welcome message as we walked in with our names on the board, the handwritten anniversary card in our room, and absolutely every moment and detail about this stunning home. I couldn’t imagine a better place to celebrate. If you have been looking for a place to stay in our area, whether as a visitor to Louisville or Kentucky or even a seasoned local looking for something special like we were - you can stop looking now. You’ve found it. We cannot wait for...
Read moreFirst of all, the gorgeous pictures you see when you look at Chateau Bourbon? All absolutely accurate, it truly is as beautiful, immaculately clean and stylish as it looks.
I loved the different spaces to hang out - we had a room with an outside balcony, great for early morning coffee and reading a book. When we wanted a change of scence, swinging on the front porch, sitting in the loung or outside rear lounge, all were just wonderful places to read, chat and watch the world go by.
The breakfasts were delicious, truly foodie heaven - we're vegetarians and Missy cooked wonderful alternatives for us. And the 5pm cocktail (and dessert, yum again!) hour was brilliant fun, amazing bourbon based cocktails (which I loved whilst not even really being a bourbon fan!), wonderful sweet treats and a really lovely opportunity to chat with the owners and the other guests (if that's not what you want you are able to still have the cocktail and take it into one of the quiet spaces, they won't mind!).
Whilst we're mentioning hosts, John and Missy were clearly just born to do this. In addition to having created such a welcoming home away from home, they're warm, interesting and really want their guests to have the best time - they know so much about the local area, businesses etc that forget the internet, just ask them!
Lastly (and believe me I really could write more), we did two bourbon tastings whilst in KY - once at a local distillery and one with Missy. Whilst the distillery tour was interesting, we learned so much more with Missy - by the time we did it, she'd got to know us a bit, she'd also talked with us about our distillery experience and she used all that information to create a truly personalized exxperience for us - she even managed to find me bourbon that I would actually drink - no mean feat for a wimpy wine drinker like me.
They have a 5 star rating from many others as well as us, I hope from the above, you've got some...
Read moreI can't say enough good things about this place - but I'll try. First, it's gorgeous! The furnishings in the main part of the house make you feel welcomed from the moment you arrive - and after you have had a nice, relaxing swing on the front porch. There is even a blackboard with a welcome note to those who are arriving. So cute! Then, you go to your room. Additional homey feels in here! My husband and I stayed in the Stillhouse Suite which has two queen beds, one being on an outside porch. Wonderful! The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were amazingly soft. Pillows were quite comfortable as well. The room itself is generous in size and the bathroom has a gigantic shower!
And what's a B&B without the breakfast? I can tell you, you do not want to miss it. You pick a time for breakfast the evening prior and voila, a Downton Abbey worthy table is laid ready for you in the morning. Three courses. My favorite was the blueberry waffle with the bourbon infused syrup. No wait, it was the ham and egg cups over grits. No, really it was the baby gouda quiche on the first day. Oh, never mind. I can't pick a favorite. But, you get the idea. You also don't want to miss the Happy Hour in the evening at 5. It's a great way to get to know others who are also enjoying their stay at the Chateau. And the drinks and desserts are amazing. I do have a favorite here - a Manhattan with just a touch of praline liqueur. Oh yum!
None of this awesomeness could've happened without the vision and hard work of the hosts - Missy and John. So very professional and so very fun and informative. They chose a great location in a small, walkable community where everyone is front porch sittin'. Very quaint, lovely and welcoming. They chose well and developed a dream that others can share in. I hope you...
