What was good was good, but there wasn’t much of it. Started out being served a G&T that was entirely flat. I explained to staff that their soda was flat but I’d be happy to finish the drink as is, just that they should be aware the carbonation needed to be changed. They took my drink and I waited almost 10 minutes to get another with carbonation. Ordered the Yuca fries to start and they were the highlight. Got picanha as my main and it arrived medium well instead of medium rare. I was half way through it before anyone came to check on how the food was, I was offered another steak but at this point the table is halfway through their food and I don’t want to hold things up. Management comped me a drink for the trouble but was mostly disinterested. This was further underscored by us receiving the wrong bill when we went to leave. I brought this to management’s attention and they sent us out the right one without making an appearance themselves to apologize for the numerous issues and encourage us to give them another chance, I won’t be back, there are so many better options in Norton Commons at more reasonable price points and I encourage you to explore them instead of Alchemy.
In response to Nelson’s reply; I stand by what I wrote, you and your staff were inattentive and sloppy. Your staff ignored my efforts to give them a heads up about the soda, took my drink when I asked them not to, you brought me a steak two temperatures over what I’d asked for and didn’t check in for nearly fifteen minutes after you’d dropped it (what am I supposed to do at this point? Send it back and wait for the right food, meanwhile the table has finished their meals?!) Finally, when I brought the issue with the bill specifically to your attention you disappeared into the back and made no effort to smooth things over. When I approached you as I was leaving I didn’t shake your hand because I didn’t like or respect you at that point. Despite that I was going to leave your name out of the review but since you went ahead and put yourself out here I’ll go ahead and say it again,...
Read moreMy family and I had the pleasure of dining at Alchemy Restaurant during our visit to Louisville, and I can't say enough how phenomenal our experience was. From the moment we stepped in, we were welcomed with warmth and enthusiasm, setting the tone for a memorable evening.
The food at Alchemy is truly one-of-a-kind, offering a creative and diverse menu that caters perfectly to restricted dietary needs. As a gluten-free diner, I appreciated the extra effort the team put into accommodating my restrictions. The gluten-free chicken empanada and the sweet plantains were exceptional substitutes, and the Alchemy Sampler provided a delightful introduction to their unique offerings. FYI, for those who are gluten-free, a designated fryer to serve you too.
The drinks were a highlight also. The Black Walnut Smoked Old Fashioned was an experience all in itself. My wife, a steak enthusiast, was thoroughly impressed with her Ribeye steak, prepared to perfection. As for me, the Pabellon Criollo dish was an absolute delight, capturing the essence of Venezuelan flavors perfectly. Even our son and his girlfriend were thoroughly satisfied with their choices.
Last but not least: Dessert, the Lemon Flavored Cream Brûlée was the perfect sweet ending to our meal, leaving us with nothing but smiles.
Our outstanding dining experience was made even better by our waiter, Jose. His energy was a total vibe. We had impeccable service, and not only was he personable and attentive, but he also offered fantastic recommendations that helped us navigate our decisions (as we struggled not to order one of everything). Our glasses were never empty, and he ensured we lacked nothing throughout the evening.
The attention to detail, the exceptional food, and the outstanding service at Alchemy Restaurant have left an indelible mark on us. We are incredibly grateful for the warm hospitality and the effort put into accommodating our dietary needs. Without a doubt, we will be returning to Alchemy when we are back in Louisville. Thank you, Alchemy, for a truly amazing...
Read moreOne of the worst food experiences I’ve ever had. Well, worst we ALL have had and there were 7 of us. The amount of bad frozen food, reheated garbage was mind bending. Stick to what you know. The sweet plantains and tostones were decent. Keep it at that. Our server never checked in and was dazed and confused most of the time, walking away without a word when we finally had the courage to say something about just ONE of the many issues. The food: The empanadas: We were served chicken instead of the ordered beef. They were crispy but the filling was pretty lacking in any real flavor. The lettuce wrap: I can’t even explain just how bad it was. Reheated oddly textured rubbery chicken with a hot mayonnaise wilted slaw on top of wilted iceberg lettuce. And for $26 it was THREE pieces of lettuce. Three tacos from Taco Bell after steaming in a bag for three hours would have been more appealing. Pasta: So we asked for pasta as a replacement because the lettuce wraps were so inedible. Why spaghetti is on the menu who knows but thought it would be safe at least. It was the cheapest canned sauce I wouldn’t even serve my worst enemy mixed into pasta cooked to the texture of baby food and served with yes, cheap frozen garlic bread. The black beans: Or as it should have been labeled bean broth with 4 beans. It was truly an entire ramekin of just broth with one spoonful of beans in it that you had to hunt for. And to top it all off, a pitcher of “Margaritas” or as it should be described; a pitcher of ice with orange juice and a faint whisper of what you might think is tequila but after drinking a whole pitcher you think… maybe they forgot the alcohol? Not really sure. But alas, orange juice over ice does not a margarita make. At the end of what I can’t even call a meal we waited 30 min for the check, it arrived incorrect and then it took another 15 min of standing around waiting for someone to figure it out and get it fixed. I’m left just so confused how anyone feels this menu or service is...
