We recently rented out the Moulin Rouge B&B and its sister rental location, the Laven House, for our wedding reception and guest accommodations over Labor Day weekend, and we could not have been happier with our selection! The charm and thought that has been put into all of the restorations and decor of the house is impeccable, and everything from the ice buckets and wine glasses in the bedrooms to the access to the kitchen fridges was everything we wanted or needed. The backyard has plenty of tables and chairs, a fire pit, and lots of space to put out your own rented tables and chairs. The inside has plenty of seating space, and a large amount of tables and kitchen counter space to set up any catered food for dinner or appetizers. Our guests felt so at-home here, and we had a multitude of photo opportunities on the porch, down the spiral staircase, and around the house, which has made fond memories for us to look back at.
Kristin and Chris are the most gracious hosts I have encountered, and they happily answered any and all questions we had for the event. Skip the hotel and rush straight for this one-of-a-kind, stunning, thoughtful, and hidden gem in Mankato. You will not be disappointed! HUGE thank you to Kristin and Chris -- you made our wedding, guests, and us feel so special! We can't...
Read moreRead moreGreat Pre-holiday stay at Moulin Rouge suite with college roommates! Excellent stay all the way around. Communication was detailed and timely. House was wonderfully restored and decorated. Nice balance of privacy and attentiveness. Room was toasty, but we will learn to use heat adjustments ahead of time next stay:) Lots of things to do == Holiday Lights at Sibley Park was a highlight for sure. We also attended MSU dance performance, hit old stomping grounds downtown (Paglias Pizza and South Street!) then tucked in for night on comfy king and Murphy bed. Enjoyed Fabulous gourmet 4 course breakfast in AM— before touring town and college, hitting History Center, Betsy- Tacy Holiday Open House, Hubbard House Christmas Tour. We also Peaked in on women’s hockey game Vs. UofM, stopped by the riverside Native American tribute sculptures and reviewed about 1/2 of of the downtown Art sculpture displays as well. Enjoyed Wine Cave, the stunning silo paintings nearby, & ended the day in North Mankato at Bells on Belgrade Celebration. Full 2 days! Most events were walkable from Moulin Rouge, too:) Will be back for sure. Owners are great to work with, Prices are fair, and one night stays are allowed… but will definitely book...
First class in every way! The historic-home restoration was completed with acute attention to detail, and the place is lovely, cozy and welcoming. As it turned out, we had the place all to ourselves for a quiet Valentine's retreat. We sampled lots of the antique furniture (colorful, comfy and inviting), learned the home's history, and checked out its special features, fireplaces and furnishings. After our overnight, we dined lavishly on the large, healthy assortment of breakfast foods provided. As with the restoration, every detail for our comfort and use of the home was provided, and cleanliness and order are obviously high priorities. TV available if you want it - we didn't. Great for a couples or girlfriends getaway, small-group gathering (ask for some home-baked treats), or if in town for a family visit, sporting or cultural event. Conveniently located at the edge of downtown in walking distance from grocery, small shops, sandwich shops and restaurants. We met the baker, and the owners were responsive to us by text upon our arrival, departure and for questions in between. High...
