I'd put 7 stars if I could. The building is over 100 years old, and has been restored (and is still in the process of being restored). It's beautiful and quirky, and has views of the surrounding desert and of Terlingua that can't be beat. AC works great, water works great, furnishings are beautiful. The porch is a thing of beauty, and on the second floor is a sky deck where you can lay out under the thousands of stars at night and watch them spin by. There's a kitchen you can use. The owner Bill was friendly, generous and helpful through the entire stay. I'm coming back, guaranteed.
The closest to a negative I have is a warning about the environment. If you have a bug phobia (I have a bit of one), you may have a problem. I stayed in one of the rooms down the hill one night, and had to deal with two roaches. In the mansion I had to deal with a lot of moths inside. This is not in any way shape or form a negative about the property. The owner is doing everything he can to control the insects. But this is a DESERT, and the 100 year old buildings have been an oasis for desert insects since before my grandmother was born. The structures are not and cannot be airtight. Every building has spots where you can see daylight through a door or a gap in a wall. If you can't deal with the occasional insect, you may need to reconsider the Big Bend area at all.
I came here to get away from it all for a few days. There's no better...
Read moreI'm sad to say the whole place has changed for the worst. The Perry Mansion itself the rooms are just as beautiful as always but the other guests were awful. They had unruly Children and an adult from the group tried to jimmy our door open! No it wasn't a mistake they gained access to a different room that they weren't staying in to look around. Really!? Who does that, it's not okay and they had no right to go into other private rooms that were not occupied,at least I hope not! Their children kept us up until 4am plsying in the great room above all lower rooms and let their kids run around onto our private balcony (clearly separated from common area) I won't ever come back because this visit was horrible and we oaid way too much to chance another bad experience when thete are lots of other unique places to stay, its just this was our favorite place and the clientele has changed in Terlingua. This should be an adults only hotel as most children cannot appreciate or be respectful of others seeking the tranquility of such a beautiful and...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed in the West Wing Upstairs March 3-4, 2025. We loved the colorful bedspreads, fine soft sheets, super-comfortable bed, green ceiling moldings, and design features. We loved the shared spaces - my wife cooked dinner in the handsome kitchen, which also offered free deluxe coffee, hot apple cider, hot chocolate, etc., as many as we wanted. We sat out on the upstairs balcony at night and looked at the stars, sat in the upstairs Great Room to enjoy morning and coffee, and enjoyed the downstairs patio. A windstorm went through that night, and we were glad to not be in a solid, luxurious place. Owner Bill Ivey (son of the founder) was great to work with and super responsive. I would love to stay there again, and wouldn't stay anwyhere else. There is no outside noise, being at the end of a short road up a hill, and we never heard the...
