I wish I could give this establishment more stars, but they over promised and under delivered when booking hotel blocks for our out of town guests for our wedding. Dan was extremely hard to get a hold of, he would say one thing and then tell me another, and would go weeks without calling us back. He would tell us: "well, our owner is out of town and I don't want to bother him" on more than one occasion.
We moved our wedding from Colorado to Wisconsin due to our original wedding venue shutting down permanently in Colorado. We had 220 guests come from out of state in September for the event, and they told me they could accommodate the majority of them when I first spoke with Dan in December. Every time we had a block of rooms fill they were hesitant to give another block, when they originally told me they would open another as soon as one filled. Dan later stated "the owner instilled a new policy" and we cannot have more than "40 rooms attached to one event" and I can no longer give you a block of rooms, but you can book outside the blocks if you want. At this point we had 46 rooms booked, and had JUST sent out our invitations. The Lodge at Mauston was what we had printed on our wedding invitations for accommodations, and where we had ALL our guests shuttled to and from by bus to avoid drinking and driving. Makes zero sense. If we were going to fill your hotel, wouldn't you want business all weekend at your establishment? The front desk employees would constantly tell our guests "the block is full" and turn guests away when they had several rooms still available in the hotel during our dates. Nobody would tell me a single name of a guest booked in our block any time I called, which just complicated things even more. Cherry on top, Dan refused to give me a list of people who booked WITHIN OUR WEDDING BLOCK so I could make gift bags for those arriving from out of state when every other hotel across the nation does this for weddings. The entire process was literally a logistics nightmare.
My husband and I pre-arranged to pay for the 3 rooms of our photographers, videographers, and hair and makeup ladies, and they still made each of them present their own credit card upon check-in AND proceeded to charge our card AND each of theirs for the rooms. So ridiculous.
We had our wedding at Great Escape Lodge on Castle Rock Lake (rehearsal and ceremony) and Shipwreck Bay (tent reception) -- We have nothing but WONDERFUL things to say about both of these places!) Definitely check into both if you are in the area! Shipwreck's has phenomenal staff, drink and cannot go wrong with anything on their menu and THANK THE HEAVENS ABOVE for the Quality Inn next door that had some...
Read moreFirst I want to say the place is stunning and immaculate. As someone who spends more on fine dining then mortgage and car payments eating in the dells I would say I can compare quite well. I was so excited when they announced this build. I dont like the drive to the dells and was happy to have a local place I could go relax at have a couple drinks and work. The food in town gets old so a place of stature was very exciting. We were the 3rd clients the day it opened. Service was horrible and no waitresses around most of the time. There were more waitresses then tables sat. My drink was empty food was sloppy and they were discussing schedules in back according to the server. I havent been back since until tonight and gave it another shot because everyone says how good it is and I hoped the got it together.
Tonight I ordered the 8oz bison and it weighed about 4 oz, vegetables were just low quality and seasoned red potatoes had no taste like the previous tim the scalloped were tasteless. My wife and I planned on sharing that and the $60 giant crab legs. Well they were medium quality and compared to any other crab legs I've had besides the casino they couldn't match. Paying $60 for a meal that cost around $13 in cost was insulting. When you eat at this level you want uniqueness and this is more like a good cook at home trying the restaurant game out. Service is hit or miss and honestly I cant figure out what they are so busy in the back doing. Maybe cooking or working the front desk. I really had high Hope's for bar and restaurant but again I was let down. If you ever want a chef to come up with a diffrent approach I'm more then willing to put my 2 cents in for free because I want tou to have the success I thought it would have. The hotel crowd maybe be happy enough but the table next to me jaw dropped when there crab legs came out and the didnt seem so...
Read moreWe stayed here two years ago, and it was fantastic. This time…average at best. Upon entering the lobby, there was a group of about 8 people standing around drinking beer, and had two cases of Busch Light on the floor. Could you be anymore white trashy? Seriously?! Guests had to walk around them because they were right in the middle of the lobby all night. They were there for HOURS, drinking, yelling, etc. You could hear them from the room at 10:30 at night! Absolutely absurd that the hotel allowed that. ||Fast forward to breakfast. Breakfast used to consist of just about anything you could think of. Now, a few hot items, 4 ounce containers of juice (who drinks 4 ounces?), and the rest is prepackaged garbage. To make matters worse, there are FOUR tables. FOUR tables for an entire hotel. On our last stay, the restaurant was open for guests to sit and enjoy breakfast. Now, people were either taking food back to their room, or standing and waiting for another table to finish before they could eat. ||The showers are still problematic. There is no lip between the shower and the rest of the bathroom. Pretty much water get tracked all over the bathroom. A major design flaw as the bathroom tile becomes wet and slick. ||Compared to two years ago, things are really sliding downhill fast. Not due to the condition of the hotel, but due to management. Allowing guests to party in the lobby late into the night (with two cases of beer on the floor), cutting back on the breakfast menu, not enough seating. These are all issues that could easily be addressed, but likely won’t be. I rated this three stars, and I feel like that’s being generous. We will not be...
