I do not normally write reviews like this, but feel I am obligated since our experience was absolutely TERRIBLE!! Last night was our first and LAST time we will be visiting The Broken Spur. We had a party of 4 and were seated at a table half the size of the booths, where they were only seating parties of 2. Once seated at our table we were handed menus and never asked if we wanted anything to drink. We had to ask our server if we could even order beverages. She did take our drink order and proceeded to take our dinner orders. My husband and I were given the option of soup or salad bar with our entrees, but the other 2 in our party were not. My husband and I were pretty much finished with our salads when the bartender finally arrived with our beverages. Our server was standing near our table when the beverages arrived so I asked if the other 2 individuals should have been given the option of soup or salad bar as well. She did not even respond, however the bartender did by saying YES. My husband and I both ordered the scallops with risotto, one individual ordered the herb encrusted walleye and the other ordered the seafood trilogy. Each entree was awful. The "herb encrusted" walleye was caked in oil soaked panko, the "creamy white wine butter sauce" seafood trilogy was so fishy the gnocchi was inedible, and the scallops with the “crackling’” sauce were nothing more than 4 scallops with a bunch of pork belly doused in a sweet BBQ sauce. When the "chef" came around to our table I mentioned to him I did not know this entree came with pork belly as I do not eat that. He simply responded stating the menu should be updated with a better description. That was it. Since I received that sort of response nobody else was even willing to waste their breath explaining why their entrees were unfit. My husband who normally does like pork belly stated it was so salty he couldn't even eat it. We were there for at least an hour and a half to 2 hours and were never asked if we wanted anything else to drink and after our entrees arrived to the table we had to ask our waitress if she could clear our dirty salad and appetizer dishes away just so we had room on our table. It's very unfortunate as we spent over $200 to celebrate 2 birthdays and it was a complete...
Read moreMe and my wife came in July 27th 2024. We normally order. The shaved prime rib sandwich and the Walleye dinner Which we did again to our horror and let me explain. The shave beef sandwich was half the size or even smaller than that. Compared to when chef tony made it. My wife's bottom bun was so soggy that she couldn't eat it or pick it up. And she found only 3 mushrooms on the whole thing and sadly enough she couldn't even find the cheese and I'm telling you the last ones, that we ordered, (many times)we always took a picture of our plates because we couldn't believe how big it was. And used to make a joke that they used a 1/2 a loaf of French bread to make it and the cheese was like on a pizza. Okay, the walleye we live in Wisconsin. Walleye is the best fish around second to perch. Normally, it was PAN fried, flaky, big and beautiful and I gotta tell you when we asked the waitress, which was a fabulous lady, what he did to the walleye, she said rolling her eyes that he grilled it and whatever seasoning and slime, which my. Wife called it, that he had on the walleye was terrible tasting. It was the worst fish I have ever tasted in my life. And I'm 64 years old. My brother is on the walleye national fishing competition circuit. So I eat a lot of Walleye fish, and it was terrible to the point that I asked for a to go box, and I left it on the table. I should have sent it back and ordered something new. The potato came out fine. The vegetables would've been fine, but they were cold. And the sampler used to have herring on it. We don't eat it that much, but I'm telling you. It was the best herring I've ever tasted. We bragged about the quality and quantity of the meals. To our family to our friends to our church body and to Facebook. I will be calling the manager on Tuesday. Or maybe Mr. Bruner, because I was cheated and it was the disgusting meal which we used to love coming there. If it continues. I would never go back there again. And? We are locals from New lisbon....
Read moreMy first experience here was with a group of 6 close friends and family. We went out on a very cold February Friday night, we were seated by the large fireplace and it was a perfect setting and warmed us up with delight. I mention the seating because the table was a perfect 6 seater. Not two wobbly tables pushed together and I appreciated that. In Wisconsin Friday night fish is almost a religion and their selection was surprising. As we sipped our real muddled Korbel Brandy Old Fashions mixed by Jill who is a delightful Mauston mixologist legend and sweetheart behind the bar. We reviewed the hard cover quality menus and prepared to order, just from the feel of the menu and the glance of the Scallop and Pork Belly apps I saw a couple enjoying at the bar on the way to our seat, I new we were in for a good time. Three ladies in our group had the beer battered Walleye filet special and it was a master piece! A huge and thick filet perfectly crispy breading sided with a sweet corn mix and potato and the unbelievably tasty crab corn chowder. Two in our group are a couple who shared a Ribeye and a large special salad. The steak was perfectly prepared and the presentation was on point! I had the Poor Man's Lobster special, a large piece of baked Cod with drawn butter and lemon prepared in a fashion I can only describe as YES PLEASE! We were all so pleased AND childishly giddy with the meal. I sound silly I know but it is such a happy moment to know I have a great restaurant in my town and don't have to travel to the Dells. If you can't tell I recommend a visit. I treated the group and paid the bill and have to say, I have spent more on just my wife and I at steakhouses in the Dells and not been this pleased. Our waitress Keri was an absolute pleasure and is a true professional. Definitely making this my go to spot...
