I have stayed in the Hotel Colonial many times and it truly is a beautiful, peaceful place. This time I booked and I had an issue with the reservation because Google had incorrect info and I was saddened that I had to cancel. About 10 minutes after I hung up with the hotel I was on the phone to cancel and the hotel manager called me to let me know she was informed of my issue and had advised the front desk that everything was ok and it all worked out so I was able to keep my reservation. I was so happy because I was close by with family and it was a bit late to start searching for another hotel for 2 nights. Danny (Front desk) was EXCELLENT!! What a pleasant and very professional young man. It was he who contacted the manager to explain my situation and I owe him a debt of gratitude for taking the initiative to try and resolve the issue and allow me to keep my reservation. This hotel is lucky to have him as an employee. Ms Nancy Toro, Hotel Manager is an excellent administrator and also very professional and accommodating. Thank you for saving my reservation Danny, you are truly an exceptional young man and Nancy for your professionalism and prompt attention and resolution. You will fall in love with the quaintness of this hotel. It’s not fancy but it’s simplistic style is very comfortable also very clean and the staff will make it worth your stay. There is even a room with a copula and a nice balcony overlooking the street. Nice to relax in. I love this hotel because of it’s history and its close proximity to the beautiful Mayagüez plaza and Ricomini Bakery (the best) as well as Rex Cream ice cream-Heavenly and sooo Delicious (corn ice cream-sounds odd but a must try) also the coconut is yummy. (2 locations in this area) It is indeed a beautiful piece of Mayagüez history. Hope you enjoy your stay as much as I always do.
Read moreMy wife and I recently traveled to Puerto Rico, in February 2025, for the first time and were amazed by everything the island had to offer. One day we decided to take a road trip to the West side of the island , which is a 4 hour trip. Not wanting to do an 8 hour round trip in one day, we decided to stay one night at the Posada Hotel Colonial in Mayaguez and we were not disappointed.
The building itself was built in 1897 as a convent and works very well as a hotel. The hotel is located in the historic area of the town surrounded with excellent restaurants and local bars. Upon check-in the staff was more than helpful telling us the history of the hotel and the neighborhood where it is located. The neighborhood is extremely friendly and safe.
So, if you ever travel to Puerto Rico, do yourself a favor and take a road trip to the West coast to check out the light house in Cabo Rojo and the town of Rincon. In between those two areas you will find Mayaguez and the Posada Hotel Colonial. You will be pleasantly surprised that the Posada Hotel Colonial will be the perfect place to stay and discover the history...
Read moreFirst time in Puerto Rico and couldn't be more satisfied with the accommodations and friendliness and attentiveness of the hotel staff! I stayed in one of the smaller rooms, so I can't speak to the rest of the hotel, but everything was very clean and comfortable. I felt like the employees went our of their way to make me feel at home, from recommendations, answering questions, and general cheerfulness! I don't remember everyone's names, but Calvin in particular made my stay very nice! Keeping in mind that this is a college town, you might expect some loud music late at night on the weekends in the area - the hotel can't control this - but everything during my stay was safe (parking...
