This is a beautiful park located in the heart of Mayagüez. As you enter the park you are transported into another world away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby city. There are plenty of walking or running trails around if you want to take some time to exercise.
There are also some beautiful gazebos in the park with a noticiable patina which allows them to blend in beautifully to their surroundings.
Towards the west end there is a small circular stream filled with so many koi fish that my children had a fun time giving them names. A few of the fish in this area were quite large and look like they have enjoyed a nice long life in their pond.
A short distance from the pond are some trees loaded with nesting egrets. While they are beautiful to admire from a distance, it can be quite smelly if you get too close to them and you are taking a risk of them pooping on you. 😂

It’s a great place to hang out and spend the day, but it’s closed on the weekends and on random days during the week. More than once I’ve rolled up with an excited toddler to closed gates. At this point the baby says “oh it’s open!” It’s really a shame because it can’t cost much to keep a park open on the weekends in the daytime. There’s not a lot of safe public places for little ones to romp at in Mayaguez.
Es un parque como todo el oeste, maravilloso y digno de nuestro orgullo pero...

Okay, so we finally walked the whole park. There is a firetruck and fish in the far pond. And turtles. We spent a very long time playing with the fish who will follow you wherever you walk. There are also a bunch of birds (and wild green parrots). It felt very safe too, even though it was mostly us...
