This is a long story, because I am very disgruntled, and feel ripped off. And it’s too bad because kenny was delightful and accommodating and the building was interesting itself.
Okay this is hard to rate because overall we are satisfied with the room the hotel and wanted to stay again… also, the service was excellent when we checked, Kenny did an excellent job, very professional courteous and smooth transaction.
But then, when he left the front desk, and other worker was there, although she was courteous and pleasant, not really sure whose fault this is beside the coke heads next door, but we have neighbors right outside our bed about 2 feet on their balcony right next-door, we’re talking very loudly and echoing and endlessly, like not even taking a breath, from at least 3 AM to 8 AM. It woke me up they were so loud. My waking up and moving around woke my husband who is a light sleeper and at 4 AM I finally told the front desk, the noise does not end until 8:30 AM, on the 3rd complaint.
Then new front desk person he gave us a later check out until one, which barely made up for the five hours of sleep loss, because we woke at 12:50 and we vacated shortly after 1pm but they charged us for “smoking in the room! $250 CHARGE not only did we not smoke in the room, but my husband was courteous enough to take all the cigarette butts. Keep them in a small cup, took them off the porch, cleaned up and threw everything in the garbage cans. He always cleans the hotel room before we check out, so it is extra insulting that we are soaking in there, also, our neighbors were smoking and we had to shut the door to balcony several times to keep their smoke out of our room.
WE WERE PERFECT GUESTS, did not leave a mess, and “smoking charge” is 3x the price! We wander the hotel all morning because of the noisy guests next door and the problem was not solved.
I seemed to have left a charger there that is unique, and they cannot check until room service comes tomorrow, also even though the front desk lady was very nice, she cannot check into the charge until tomorrow when the manager comes. So I am out almost $300 for no reason and less than accommodating. This is really too bad because even my husband wanted to stay here for several more days.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, the air conditioning didn’t work in a room and it was just flat turn off like dark screen on the thermostat and we had to keep turning it back on throughout the day and night
The pool is green and foggy. Somebody is not checking the chemicals are cleaning it properly, the Night Shift person before the one we saw told us they had a hot tub they do not. One of the main features we were looking for. It was a pool. It is not heated, and it was not clean enough for me to want to step foot in it. The fountain next to it look Crystal blue, but the pool looks filthy. I watched the pool and then clean it. They did not do a pH level check, nor do any chemicals.
We were happy to purchase a breakfast for $14 a person, but everything was mediocre and disappointing, except for the fruit half of the fruit was delightful half of it was not.
Overall beautiful, historic hotel, lacking a lot of antique features that it once had, but still a cute charming little gem. We were happy to become regulars. Now after this mishap, we feel robbed.
I am hoping that tomorrow when I speak to the manager, if I get too, that they will refund the smoking fee that is completely unwarranted, and if we come back, will check treat us as deserving guests. Not to mention the moldy smell from the air conditioner, which we were able to overlook, but the shutting off of the thermostat was very annoying. All in all one night stay ended up costing me over $400 for a mediocre room without a pool. And now I’m on the search for a new charger, hoping they will be honest and return it to me on April 3, which, apparently I have to wait until then to get a Resolve.
Update: they only refunded me because I was able to go back there in person, KEPT MY CHARGER, some employee stole it. And yep,...
Read more🚨 Travelers beware! 🚨 Our stay at the Wyndham Casa De Palmas in McAllen, Texas turned into an absolute nightmare. The room was infested with bed bugs and mites, leaving my wife with painful bites that required medical treatment for scabies while staying at the hotel.
Not knowing what was happening, we went to a local doctor and ended up spending hundreds of dollars on medical treatment, new clothes, and shoes just to avoid further contamination. The pain was so bad she couldn’t wear shoes — only flip-flops. The prescribed treatment required applying a cream from the neck down for 14 hours, making it nearly impossible to sleep.
My wife planned to play golf with me and enjoy dinners with family and friends, but all of that was canceled. Our vacation was cut short, and the experience completely ruined what should have been a special and relaxing trip.
Like many people, she works 60+ hours a week and rarely gets time away with family. This trip meant a lot, and because of someone’s negligence, that time is gone and we’ll never get it back. Housekeeping was another disaster. They don’t clean rooms daily — you have to schedule service 24 hours in advance, but even then, there’s no guarantee anyone will show up. I had to call multiple times, and only after getting frustrated did anyone finally clean the room, hours late.
To their credit, management did try to make restitution by taking three days off our bill, but honestly, it’s not about the money — it’s about the principle. This was an unacceptable, unsafe experience that does not represent the Wyndham brand we once trusted.
Please read reviews carefully before booking — your health, comfort, and peace of mind aren’t worth the risk.
We were drawn to the nostalgia of this historic hotel, built in 1918, and the charm of the surrounding area with its elegance, beautiful trees, and lush plants. It’s such a wonderful part of the city, rich with history and character. We were having a great time and had plans to enjoy even more of what the area offers — until the issue with mites took a toll. We truly believe everyone deserves the opportunity to work and earn a living, but it’s equally important that someone take responsibility and ensure the property is properly cleaned and maintained for the safety of its guest.
Lastly We did try to handle this quietly and directly with management before going public, but their response made it clear that nothing would truly change. The gestures they offered felt more like damage control than genuine concern. When a business treats serious hygiene and guest health issues as an inconvenience rather than a priority, it says everything you need to know.
One of the hotel’s biggest and most obvious problems is the carpet — it’s old, worn out, and smells awful. The first room I was offered had an overpowering stench of mildew a had a floor blower in the middle of room. I stood there for a few minutes, didn’t even bother to unpack, and went straight back to the front desk. To their credit, they moved me to another room, but even there, the musty smell lingered — just not as strong. It’s a clear sign that the carpets and ventilation haven’t been properly cleaned or maintained in a long time. Get rid of the carpet. And make the rooms easier to clean. Hope Wyndham gets this...
Read moreCasa de Palmas is one of those places that takes you somewhere else the moment you arrive — elegant, historic, and quietly alive with its own energy. I’ve stayed here on several occasions, and while each visit has been beautiful, every stay has also left us with something strange we can’t quite explain.
One night, the lamp in my room flickered on and off several times, even though it wasn’t loose or touched. Another time, the stairway lights did the same, glowing and dimming without reason. Down by the pool, I once saw a shadow move across the courtyard — there one second, gone the next.
My son’s phone once slid off the table by itself, and on a separate visit, while with my other son, we saw a chair shift slightly. We’ve also heard slow, deliberate footsteps when no one was around — and once, a faint growl echoed behind us as we walked down the stairs late at night. The air would change too — sometimes carrying an earthy scent, other times the faint sweet powdery perfume, there for only a moment before fading away.
At times, certain areas of the hotel grow unexpectedly cold — a sudden chill that passes through without warning, even when the rest of the room is warm. It’s subtle, but it makes you stop and take notice, as if something unseen just moved by.
These moments didn’t all happen at once. They occurred on different stays, at different times — small, unexplained fragments that make you wonder. My sons and I always try to reason things out, but Casa de Palmas has a way of defying logic.
One evening around 6 p.m., we were alone in the pool — no one walking by, no one sitting outside, no sounds but our own laughter. Yet, even then, we felt it — that subtle, eerie sensation that someone unseen was nearby. The air was still, the sky dimming, and it felt as though the past itself was quietly watching.
We’ve stayed on both the first and second floors, each with its own mysterious charm. They say the third floor is where the activity is strongest, and we hope to experience that next time.
Beyond the mystery, Casa de Palmas is simply stunning. The arches, the palms, the soft glow of the courtyard fountain — it all feels like stepping back in time. There’s beauty, history, and a haunting sense of peace that you don’t find in modern hotels.
Whether it’s echoes of the past or something beyond explanation, Casa de Palmas is a place that stays with you long...
