words cannot describe how wonderful my time was at Manderley. For starters, it is BEAUTIFUL BEYOND MEASURE. it's so obvious the passion and care Andrew and Marie took in making this place so special. We were greeted by Pumpkin, their adorable and hardworking cat ambassador that lives in their serene backyard garden. I think i probably spent an hour a day outside petting the three cats that call Manderley home. Our room (I forgot which room it was and don't want to say the wrong one LOL) made my heart flutter - I didn't get good photos of it unfortunately, but our wood frame canopy bed was the BED OF MY DREAMS. I honestly wish we weren't exploring all day because I just wanted to stay in and around Manderley all day. The chicken coop is adorable too. the FOOD!!! wow. They really know how to cook a good breakfast. the first morning we had french toast with a corn flake crust and homemade caramel sauce.... mouth is watering just thinking about it. second morning we had the best frittata I've ever had. All breakfasts were balanced with a starter of homemade bread (first day was pumpkin, second day was blueberry) fruit, sausages, and orange juice (along with as much coffee as you can drink, and I drink a lot). Lastly, Andrew and Marie are just the most wonderful hosts. They know so much about the area and the history of the home and Wisconsin. I wish our breakfast conversations never ended. They even gave us free tickets to Summerfest, which we were originally reluctant about but I'm so glad they encouraged us to go on our last day because we had a wonderful time. I hope to come back again soon. If you're a writer or remote worker, this is the perfect place to hide away in a...
Read moreI've been to several bed and breakfasts, but this is by far my favorite. Good for tourists, or Milwaukee locals who want to get away from while still staying in their own town. It feels removed from time. I'm not sure where to start! We stayed in Bessies room. The Jacuzzi was amazing and the fireplace was so romantic. The shower had two shower heads and was nice and warm! They have a guest closet in the hall with movies, drinks, and toiletries in case you forget anything. The couple who runs the place is so nice. Andrew has done a lot of the woodwork and stain glass in the place. The couple took 10 years to restore the house--theyre both historians in their own right and have done a great job of keeping Milwaukee's history alive. Marie is an amazing cook and the eggs she made for breakfast came from the chicken coop in the back! Both of the two are very nice and good at telling stories. If you're from out of town, they'll recommend restaurants or things to do, if you're from town, this place gives you a good chance to see the history of Milwaukee from a tourists eyes, in a charming little bed and breakfast removed from time. This stay was very special to me and my fiance and I hope...
Read moreOur stay here was overall a wonderful experience. The owners of the place were very friendly and accommodating, but never overbearing while we were there. I have a specific diet and they accommodated my needs with amazing breakfast both mornings. The house itself is lovely and the styling inside was very nice, filled with all sorts of antiques. We stayed in Millie's room which was quite large with a working fireplace. The bed had a large footboard, and I'm 6'3", so it was a little tighter than I'd prefer, but most people are not my height so I can't hold it against them. The bed frame was very very noisy, however. The neighborhood the house is located in is "transitional", as in I wouldn't recommend necessarily walking around there at night. There is a parking lot attached to the house though and it's only a few minutes drive from most anywhere else in Milwaukee, so it wasn't a major issue. There was a fair amount of street noise, but being from Chicago it was nothing too excessive. Overall I really enjoyed the stay here and would certainly come back...
