I made a very huge mistake which was making Valentine’s dinner reservations for 6pm at the Fitz. That’s all where my nightmare began. A day after making reservations I got a call from the restaurant manager telling me that there are no more tables available at the Fitz and that I could either eat Valentines dinner at 9pm or use their other Restaurant Gin Rickey but we would be sitting around a bar. I explained that I didn’t feel comfortable eating around the bar and would rather keep my reservations for the Fitz. She became rude and said “ We don’t have tables at the Fitz, Do you want the table around the bar or not!” I reluctantly accepted. We arrived on Valentine’s Day and were seated right next to the bar as she explained. Me and my family felt very uncomfortable and suggested we get up and leave. I did not want to be rude so we stayed. We ordered our drinks and our appetizer, entree and salad. The appetizer came out first. It was mediocre. The salad came out next. I picked at mine because most of it was brown and dry. Then our entrees arrived. We were so excited we took pictures of our food as soon as the were placed on the table. I looked at my food a could’ve swore I saw a hair. I was not wearing my glasses and thought to myself “there’s no way, this is an upscale restaurant right” so I began to eat my steak about 1/4 way through I noticed again what clearly was a hair in my food and called the waiter over. He said he could not see it. I said “yes look that is definitely a hair!” He then took his fingers and pulled an extremely long black hair that was tied in a knot and was full of sauce. I covered my mouth in horror and began to regurgitate and gag intensely. The waiter then grabbed the plate and ran away with it. I got up and ran to what I thought was the bathroom. I actually was walking into the restaurant I was supposed eat at the Fitz. The lady at the podium saw me walking to the Fitz and yelled at me like I was a 5 year old child. She said “ Where do you think your going!!!” And “What is wrong with you!?” I was so sick to my stomach that I couldn’t even respond to her. All I could do was continue gagging and regurgitating uncontrollably. I finally found the bathroom. After I puked up my appetizer and salad I washed my hands and looked in the mirror. My face was red and my eyes were watery. I was absolutely sick to my stomach. I was extremely disappointed. I walked back to my table and as I passed the lady at the podium who yelled at me she gave me a dirty look and scoffed at me. When I sat down all of my family’s food was gone. My husband said the restaurant manager was coming to talk to us. A lady approached and said well all I can do is remove one meal from your bill since it was one meal that had hair in it. I asked her are the cooks wearing hair nets and she said every one in the back is bald and it is impossible for a hair to be in my food. I then began to feel like she was insinuating I planted the hair in my own food. I was still so disgusted and mortified that I completely forgot I took this picture as soon as the waiter put the plate on the table. (You can see the hair on the upper right side of the picture between the broccoli and the steak.) We paid the $250 bill for the appetizer and salad because we didn’t want to cause a scene. I said let’s pay and I can reach out to her manager in the morning. I have called the manager John Jossart at least 20 times and left him 7 voicemails. I also left messages for “Jeff” the assistant manager he also has not returned any of my calls. I have spoke to Connie who was very condescending and refused to give me any information other then sending me to John's voicemail. I am extremely appalled at the lack of professionalism and compassion I received from every staff member I encountered at this hotel. I am disgusted and disappointed in the manner they handle complaints. I will never visit the Ambassador hotel ever again and if you care anything about your health, safety, well being and integrity I strongly suggest you don’t visit this NASTY, HELL...
Read moreOk I have had decent experiences here before and the initial impression was good. But the room this stay was so far inferior to any other ‘standard king’ that I nearly made a switch upon walking in. The staff, while friendly, was unhelpful and dismissive of both reasonable requests like for maintenance (a full day and multiple requests to the front desk and other (possibly non)employees. Further, on the failed attempt to clear a plugged drain (a simple enough task anyone could do it with tools, just not ones typically travels with), and a spill of th backed up grey water, apparently they offered a move of rooms, however at the late hour (~12Hours after first reporting the problem) i was told to talk to the manager in the morning and given a name. They told me that the offer to change rooms had ‘expired’ and then tried to offer me a price 3x what was listed online for an inferior (according to description on site). Upon balking not the price then passed me on to another person who is out on vacation for another 2 weeks. Then in person at the desk, talked again and as given no additional options and was passed on to a different AGM which appeared to be the shuttle driver, who had nothing to offer in terms of response or assistance. Also was told the shuttle out front the hotel wouldn’t run for another 2.5hrs and was pushed unceremoniously out of the lobby to the street. It appears the $50/night “standard for all hotels in America” deposit in top of upfront payment and either refundable at check out or non refundable - you have to contact the booking agent.
Anyway a three night stay was 1 night of a subpar room, a day of waiting on maintenance that didn’t come for 12hrs, and then late offer to change rooms but not informed of a time limit on the offer expired by following instructions to talk to the manager in the morning for a more suitable fix… cost was more in non refunded deposit than in price for the booking and then was charged to reserve a room which authorized another charge on my card successfully and then they tried to run it again for what reason? No idea. So all in all it’s like $600 in holds on the card that disappear from my legit bank account but never return to the balance of funds spendable.
What a scam.
Did I mention the thefts of medicine on site and strange return of documents by unknown after having left for the day…?
What could be worse? At least I wasn’t (yet) assaulted by anyone. Whoever walked me out after attempting to prepay again, for an unseen room was talking insensitive nonsense about a person who I know ….and that is not commiserating, it’s just rude. …at best, it was ambiguous who he was...

Wife and I stayed here for a work function. She told me it was a renovated 1930s era hotel that had a reputation for being in a not great neighborhood. I was expecting the worst.
First of all, it's not beautiful from the outside, but it is neat and quirky. There is a very cool neon sign over the entrance, I have no idea if it's original (I'd think not, but it's possible, neon signs date back to 1910). Parking is in an adjacent ramp that's free to guests. It was a bit of a pain to walk from the ramp to the entrance in the -30 degree temperatures (this was during that really painfully cold weather) but I imagine it wouldnt have been any better if they'd had a normal lot.
The lobby is GORGEOUS. A lot of it is original, down to the marble floors and light fixtures. The areas that have been renovated have been done true to the original decor. I was very impressed.
The elevators are probably the worst part of the hotel. They are not original, but they are very old, and small. They groaned and creaked but worked without issue.
I have stayed in 1930s area hotels and apartments before, and normally the rooms are very tiny, so again, I was expecting the worst. The rooms are huge and beautiful. Normally fancy hotels have nice lobbies and plain rooms. These rooms have tray ceilings, recessed lighting, etc. Did I mention our room was huge? The bathroom WAS small, pretty sure my elbow was in the sink when I was on the toilet. And the wiring, probably some of it being original, is weird. There's one master switch that turns off ALL the lights and outlets in the room. It took us a while to figure out that there were other light switches and we could turn off the room lights and still have the TV/outlets/bathroom lights on.
Every staff member I interacted with (mostly the night staff as I was working until very late) was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. My wife's work events were during the day and she said she encountered a few less than helpful staff members. I asked one of the people that had been helpful to me about it. She said, unlike most hotels, The Ambassador puts their best people on the night shift, since the staff is very limited at night and one person has to be able to handle a lot of things. Smart move. I cant tell you how many unhelpful people I've found at other hotels on the night shift.
We got a group rate through the work event which was very reasonable. Looking online, the rates through websites range from $55-120, with most being around $99. Well worth it.
We would definitely...
