Got to the hotel around 3pm to check in||Went inside while my wife was in the car with the furbabies (2 older special needs black cats)||Started to check in at the front desk(general manager Nick was the one checking me in, no other staff were around only the general manager)||Was given a brief summary of the hotel amenities and the surrounding area(new to the area, first time visiting)||Mentioned we had made a lil over 3hr drive to get to the hotel||Than was asked if any pets were brought with us||After saying yes, 2 animals||Manager assumed it was 2 dogs||Told the manager we had 2 cats||Was immediately given some petty looks and comments(we are a dog friendly only hotel, we don’t allow cats because it can be more annoying with cleaning and the allergies people can have with cats, etc.) ||Told the manager I wasn’t aware that it was a “dog friendly only” hotel||As I had booked through booking.com||On the app it said pet friendly nvr “dog friendly only”||Which the manager replied with a snarky comment that on the website it clearly states “dog friendly”||However due to us driving over 3hrs, the general manager had offered an accommodation of an extra fee to allow the cats to stay($50 per night instead of the roughly 20/30ish for dogs) ||Excused myself to go outside and talk about the situation with my wife||Decided to go with paying the extra since we had already drove such a long distance and wanted to just get checked in and put our belongings and cats in the hotel room and figure out what to do about food.||Went inside to pay the full price with adding the additional fees||Card was declined multiple times||Noticed an authorization fee had pulled from my checking account but not the full price I was supposed to pay||Told the manager that on my bank app I just noticed an authorization fee pending||Manager went on to say he hadn’t received any money yet or even processed the full price for the room||Went back and forth trying to explain that I have an authorization fee pending and even showed the manager discreetly in a way without the manager able to see anything else but the pending fee||But was told again and again that he didn’t receive the money yet and there was nothing wrong on his end and that I clearly didn’t understand what was happening and that I was in the wrong(started getting a nasty attitude towards me)||Briefly mentioned wanting a refund and to cancel the reservation because obviously something was wrong||Even stating do I need to take you to court(after he began refusing to give me a refund as he apparently didn’t receive any money yet)||Than very quickly cancelled my reservation and denied giving me a refund||And began to tell me to call the police if I want, that he doesn’t care, and than basically kicked me out and told me to have a great day||Leaving me over 3hrs away from home, with no way to get another hotel for the night.||A very upset and hangry wife, as well as 2 older special needs black cats.. ||I don’t believe I need to say anything else.. will never be coming back to that hotel.. and I can’t believe that the general manager who should be acting professionally and treating any customers with respect would go so low like...
Read moreThe basics: The bed was comfortable, the covers and the towels were incredibly soft, water pressure was great, and the water heated up right away. We didn't use the whirlpool tub, so I can't comment on that. The refrigerator and microwave were incredibly convenient, and made it easy to have meals in the room. The continental breakfast was good, and the cherry flavored coffee was amazing. Montague and Whitehall are nice little towns with some interesting shops. We will definitely stay there again if we're ever in the area!
Much more detail: My husband and I stayed here with our 75 pound dog. My husband is a puppeteer, and we were in the area for a puppet conference. It's only a few hours from home, but we decided to stay a couple of nights and turn it into a mini-vacation. I found it so relaxing, that I turned our 2 night stay into a 3 night stay! The staff at the Weathervane Inn is incredibly friendly! Everyone we spoke with was nice, helpful, full of information about the local area, and were even friendly to our dog. Speaking of dog-friendly, if you have a BIG dog and are looking for a place to stay, this is it! The dog fee is reasonable, and they're happy to accommodate large dogs. They even have dog treats at the front desk :)
The location is very nice - with a convenient grocery store across the street, miles of walking/biking trails at your doorstep, and lovely waterfront views from the balconies. The cleanliness of the rooms was impressive, and again those towels - they were incredible!
We were on the first floor across from the check in desk. There was some noise from other rooms, and through the door, which is understandable due to the age of the building, and didn't really detract from our stay. We expected this, and the only issue we had was a barking dog next door (luckily, ours did not respond and the barking only happened a couple of times and not int he middle of the night), and the inconsiderate person in the next room who chose to wake us up at 6 on our last day by repeatedly turning the water on and off in their whirlpool tub. Annoying, but sometimes people are unintentionally inconsiderate and this was probably one of those cases. Overall, we were impressed and I would happily book another...
Read moreVery nice quaint place. Not many rooms and very beautiful. Views are amazing. Freshly remodeled rooms are sharp. DUAL SHOWERHEADS! Amazing! Every room has a jacuzzi that is excellent! Staff seemed pretty friendly. Free continental breakfast, juice, and coffee included make your own waffles and more. They serve fresh baked cookies in the evening. We had a Lakeview room w/o kitchenette that included a fireplace, mini fridge, microwave, small coffee pot, and the basic hotel soaps and such. Surrounded by the lake, and many nature trails close by. We visited clear springs park by a locals recommendation, and I'm glad we did! Huge bike trail close, so bring your bikes if you like. Local grocer across the street was friendly with a few options for anyone. Even had some gluten free I never would have expected! The inn had rooms that also could accommodate families, and they welcome dogs too. The pretty little break wall had a cute gazebo on it that was very nice. We sat and watched several beavers and other wildlife. Would work well for special events.
One complaint. Although it seemed neat on the surface, rooms were NOT clean. Dust on the fireplace was THICK as were other very dusty spots. That is dismissable, but there were other issues. There were old coffee rings in several spots. Food stuck to the breakfast bar in the room. The tray with coffee maker was sticky, and the coffee bags stuck together and visibly filthy. The envelope left to "leave a tip for your housekeeper" was dirty and had coffee rings on it. I could mention, we didnt have any coffee during our entire stay, and these things were there after every clean up by the housekeepers. The small table was glass, and you could tell there was a half effort to wipe it one day, with dirty cloth streaks left behind and only half the table wiped. Still had stuff stuck to it after being "cleaned".
Our room was #107. We had people at our door every time we opened it, as we were right across from the small breakfast area. There was a couch butted right up to the door frame, and at night people would sit there or wait while being checked in. Walls are paper thin, so we never felt alone...
