Hanson Hill Waterfront Grill - 115 N Mears Ave, Whitehall, MI My friend was taking me out for a very late birthday dinner and I searched best restaurants near Lake Michigan. We drove 90 mins to HHWG, and I was sadly disappointed. The wagyu steak was delicious. The location has a few scenic views. Ignore my hair, I'm not sure what was going on😂 #hansonhillwaterfrontgrill #foreverfoodie #allaboutthefood #Foryourpage chroniclesofafoodoholic

Dined in for the first time on a Saturday night and couldn’t have been better. Looking forward to coming back. Would like to recognize Patrick the manager for taking care of us. My husband and I had take out the night before and there was a discrepancy with our food, but was resolved immediately over the phone with their manager - THANK YOU! In addition, our waiter tonight, a young gentleman that I never caught his name, but had a great attitude and genuine smile every time he attended. The ribeye and ravioli were exceptional. I wish I could stay more nights in town to try more of the menu. Until next time!

Food: Fried Perch $30 and Chef Burger $14. The food was incredibly flavorless. I remarked on how my mouth didn't taste any different from before I ate. The burger was just clearly plain ground beef. The perch, and egg wash and flour. No salt or pepper added. Service: There was 1 server attending to 6 or 7 tables when we arrived. 330pm on Saturday. She was doing her best and bussing tables herself. But no reason to only have 1 person on your dining floor. Atmosphere: The "view" is pretty limited depending on where your sitting and it's mostly of the marsh anyways. Nothing really to write home about.

We were in the area enjoying some fall activities and stopped at Hanson Hill Waterfront Grill for lunch. The view is wonderful, the service was great, but the food was so disappointing. Our group ordered a few items and (I swear we're not picky eaters) honestly none of the dishes were good. The Ceasar salad with shrimp looked great, but not all of the shrimp had been cleaned. The garlic sauce (I love garlic!) on the steak sandwich was way too strong/bitter overpowering the other ingredients, the steak itself was completely unseasoned, and the meat was cooked medium-well with just a little bit of pink which was fine with me but was not okay with others, and the onion was too sharp for the other flavors. The chicken sandwich had a smokey flavor that didn't complement the other seasoning. I feel like just a few tweaks to the recipes could really turn the...

My parents were staying at a nearby bed and breakfast for the evening, and I wanted to surprise them with a special dinner. The B&B owner immediately recommended Hanson Hill, so I gave the restaurant a call.

The person who answered the phone was incredibly kind and helpful—she handled my request just like she would have for her own parents. When I asked about using a gift card (they don't sell them online), she brought in the manager to help. Together, they found a solution: I purchased a physical gift card, and they attached it to my parents' reservation.

When my parents arrived, the waiter had everything taken care of. They had an amazing meal and didn’t have to worry about a thing. I’m so grateful for the thoughtful service and highly recommend Hanson Hill for anyone looking to make a...

I can’t say enough about how impressed I was with our recent visit. This restaurant has undergone a complete transformation under its new ownership. I’ve been here in the past when the kitchen was run by a teenager, and unfortunately, the food reflected that — inconsistent and uninspired.

Now? It’s exceptional.

I had the seared duck, perfectly cooked with a crisp skin and rich, balanced flavors. The cedar salad was fresh, bright, and surprisingly memorable. My friend chose from the specials, which featured asparagus in creative, seasonal dishes — every bite was outstanding.

It’s rare to see such a dramatic improvement, but the new team has clearly raised the bar. If you haven’t been back since the change, do yourself a favor and give it another shot. This place is now absolutely...
