Very nice park, conveniently located just off I-65. Finding the park takes a sharp eye, though. Our GPS took us right to it, but there is only a small low sign at the road to indicate you've arrived. Thankfully, we saw it just in time; not sure where we'd have found the room to turn around. Management is working on the problem, and it shouldn't be a problem much longer.
Check-in was smooth and effortless. The folks there are helpful and friendly, and go out of there way to make sure you're happy and comfortable. Our site was right by the bathhouses, which was convenient, and the trees around them did provide some shade for us.
Which brings up a curiosity. Despite the name, there are darned few trees. Hmm. Also, the bathhouse lights shone through the only window in our RV that we haven't retrofitted with blackout curtains. Naturally, that's right where my head rests while sleeping! I found that amusing, and it didn't keep me awake. :-) You're also close enough to the roads to hear them, and there is an airport close by. Again, we weren't bothered by that, but if you're a light sleeper, be sure to mention it to the management when checking in, and they'll do what they can to help.
Might be an odd thing to rave about, but this almost never happens with us when we set up. The utility hookups aligned almost perfectly with our coach. Usually we're strung out like a plate of spaghetti, this time, everything was right where it needed to be.
Decent fast food and other conveniences are close enough for easy walking, which was a plus after a long day. Bathhouse was sparkling clean, smelled clean, and was old-fashioned looking with wooden stalls and shower areas. I much prefer that to the more modern metal ones. We had a great stay there, and...
Read moreI planned a trip in my car from Arkansas to Florida, and called The Woods over a week before leaving to verify tent camping. I told the young lady that I wasn't sure what time I would be getting there, and asked if I needed to reserve ahead of time in-case the office was closed or they were full. She assured me that I didn't need to reserve, and she did not mention that check-in wasn't allowed after hours. On my trip I was 4 hrs away at 6:50pm and called to be sure that they still had a site, and was told by one of the owners that they don't allow tents after they close the gate at 7pm because "some tent people have caused problems in the past". I'm a 46yr old mother of three grown kids, have owned my own home for 25yrs, and am driving to see my daughter, but she wouldn't let me text her my ID and card info or anything. When she asked where I was, I told her that I had left Memphis 30 mins ago, and she rudely told me that "your GPS is wrong, I know how far away you are because I make that trip all of the time", and that I was still 7-8 hrs away even though I told her that my GPS said 4hrs. When I asked she also told me that there weren't any campgrounds in the area that would allow late check-in and told me to get a hotel room and recommended a campground in Birmingham.
My boyfriend found the Montgomery South RV Park and Cabins about 10 mins from The Woods, and Jim was really nice, and super-accomodating, and 4 hrs later I was pitching my tent in the very clean and safe campground. The traffic noise was a little hard to get used to, but after 10+ hrs of driving I didn't care. I highly recommend Montgomery South, and will be staying there on my trip...
Read moreThis is a very nice RV park. We were scheduled to stay 3 days so my husband could go into the office, but we ended up staying an extra night, no problem. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. The facility itself is a work in progress but they are working hard to make it great. The bathroom building is clean, there are several laundry machines with a chair and a TV, the shower stalls have real doors and locks so ladies can feel safe to shower. Currently, the sites are gravel pull through, large enough for a 40 ft rig or a smaller rig and a towed car. Rows 300 and 500 have concrete patio slabs but the rest are just grass. There are no picnic tables or fire pits at the sites but they have a beautiful covered patio that has 4 grills and patio furniture for community use. So if you are only there a night or two you don't have to unpack. Nice. There is a pond in the back of the property with some large fish and they will have some fishing equipment for use, soon. There is a swing and picnic table and firepit near the pond for a wonderful day by the water. The entire property is fenced in except the entrance which will be getting a gate with a security code. Although we were near the front and never felt unsafe. There are several fast food restaurants within walking distance and a couple of gas stations. The current dog park is small and since we had a lot of rain it was fairly muddy but there are dog stations in the corners with ample space to walk larger dogs. My guys loved dipping in the lake. When we return to Montgomery we will be back. THANKS for a...
