Overall our stay was good...i do have a complaint though, through my account I was able to set preferences, one was if available early check in, and I know that was only if available...but upon arriving @ 12, I walked in to no one at the check in counter, the manager on duty was at the breakfast bar eating and after standing there for a few minutes she finally dropped her fork and food and came over, did not great me at all...whe i asked if it was possible to check in i was told"oh I don't think so.we were booked solid last night...all the while looking at the computer and not at me. I just looked at her for a couple minutes then was told my room was actually cleaned. I was handed my room card, told the room # and she quickly walked back to finish eating. Never telling me where my room was located or anything about any of .the amenities the hotel offered. I had reserved the 2 queen suite a month previousl when i got to my room it was not a suite ( did not have a couch bed) but i wasn't sure that the room was supposed to have one, I did go on a chat with someone on your website and was told that yes it should but that my reservation was for a regular room. I had my emailed confirmation that showed that I had indeed reserved the suite and the hotel in g burg had changed it the night before I arrived. I was told to go and talk to the front desk attendant. The gentleman on duty was very helpful and when I told him that I made the room choice I did because my two adult sons were with me and one was sleeping on the floor he immediately sent a rollaway up and told me that he could find no reason for the change in the first place. He then adjusted my room charge ( the first manager had charged my credit card for the amount of the suite, @70 dollars more than the room I was in) and there is no way she was not aware that was what she was charging me for was not the coreect price.and had i not inquired in the first place would have been overcharged. I love your hotels and became a member and planned on using them always in the future but I really think that the hotel in gettysburg should be addressed about this. I always am greeted and treated as a valued guest but she fell very short in this instance...i do want to praise the night manager as he did all he could to fix the issue and apologize for the inconvenience. If you would like to talk to me about this please feel free to contact me through my...
Read moreMany people like to check out a 'boutique' hotel or bed and breakfast, but when I travel, I like to stay somewhere that I KNOW I will be comfortable, have a good breakfast, and have clean amenities. I have found over the last decade of travel that consistently, Holiday Inn Express hotels offer these three key factors that I look for in an overnight stay where I plan to be out enjoying the city/surrounding area on my travels. I always look for a Holiday Inn Express hotel and if there is one nearby, I book it.
The Gettysburg location met and exceeded the expectations I had of the chain. This location felt like it had high end resort-level clean/upkeep. It is obvious that the housekeeping staff really goes out of their way to ensure every nook and cranny of the room is spotless, including the bathroom. Also, general maintenance of the hotel and common/shared areas was well taken care of as well.
Check-in was a little slow just because they were training new staff, but that was understandable, as hopefully new staff members will follow the obviously high expectations that this location has for them. We used the lobby bathroom when arrival, and it was extremely clean and stocked with free feminine hygiene supplies. We are an LGBTQIA+ couple and sometimes don't know if we should say we are together or not, but there was nothing in the energy from the staff that made us feel unwelcome and we felt safe to hold hands in common spaces as any other couple might.
Our king room was very clean, and large. Though we spent most of our time out in Gettysburg, we would have had plenty of space to feel comfortable in the room if we had stayed in. Everything was comfortable, the AC was easy to control/worked great, and the room was quiet even though the hotel was full (based on the parking lot/number of people at breakfast).
Breakfast was amazing! It was also nice that the two days we were there had some slightly different options (different styles of eggs/meat) to offer variety. This was the best continental breakfast I've ever had. I usually try to stay at a Holiday Inn Express partially for their great breakfast, but this one was exceptional!
Overall - we would stay here again in a heartbeat. It was so close to downtown and the shopping locations nearby...
Read moreAs an IHG Diamond Club Member, I was disappointed with this hotel. This was not my first stay at the Holiday Inn Express Gettysburg but it may be my last. When I booked the hotel on the app, I was only given the option to book a room with 2 queen beds. When I arrived around 7:30PM, I noticed that the parking lot did not seem very full, so I asked if I could get a room with a King bed. The response of the front desk clerk was one that I have never heard as a diamond club member. (she said that it would be an upcharge to switch to a room with a king bed. She could however upgrade me to a suite with 2 queens for no additional cost). Now if the hotel would have been busy, I may have been able to understand this. Knowing this hotel the upgrade to a suite is not a big deal. When I replied that I would take the upgrade to the suite but I did not understand why there would be an upcharge to a King bed, I got a blank look and no response. At this point I just said, (ok I will make note of this). The room itself was ok. For a hotel that is only a few years old. The rooms are already starting to show wear. The bathtub had brown stains in it and rust was forming on the fixtures. The room was clean and comfortable as most IHG properties. My problem is. If there were King bed rooms available, why not just give it to me without an upcharge? I spend over 100 nights a year in IHG hotels. I also spend another 50+ nights at other brands. My point is, I have options. Another point was when I came back down stairs later to go out to eat. The girl on the front desk was sitting in the lobby area playing on here phone and never bothered to look up. When I returned from dinner an hour later she was sitting in the same place in the reception area on her phone and never looked up. The next morning when I checked out. I saw no one behind the desk but there were 3 ladies in the reception area sitting down looking at there phones. I left my keys on the desk and left. Not very...
