With all the raving reviews about these cabins and the descriptions on their website, we had some high expectations. With that said, here is our 100% honest review of this cabin. We booked this cabin for 3 nights and the experience was pretty decent for the most part. The cabin was very clean, minus the 20+ flies and Asian Lady beetles(orange ladybugs). They must have come in by accident and it was totally understandable given the location. I recommend getting some kind of fly tape from the grocery store down the street to help. There were enough clean bathroom towels, plenty of toilet paper and there were a couple of little soaps in there as well. The shower only had 5 minutes of hot water, so be prepared for that. The bed was extremely clean, the pillows were decent, but the bed itself was extremely uncomfortable. If you have any kind of back issues, I recommend bringing cushions or extra blankets to lay on. We were told on the phone the day before our stay by one of the staff members that there was a toaster oven in the cabin, along with an outdoor stove. I explained to the staff member that we were planning on making our own food, so we were trying to figure out what exactly was in the unit. She gave us wrong information, it ended up only having a small toaster for toast(not an oven) and the outside had a small fire pit(definitely for roasting marshmallows but not cooking). We ended up not being able to cook half of our food and had to buy food instead. The refrigerator in the cabin did not get cold enough for any of the food we brought, so we had to buy ice to put inside to keep our food from going bad. Getting to the cabin was relatively easy, it is right off of the highway. The downfall to this is that the highway is about 50 feet away from the cabin and there is also a church directly across the street that had lights on all night. There were no trees in between (they look like they were recently chopped down), so we were not able to see a whole sky full of stars like we were anticipating. We saw about the same amount that we see in Chicago at night. It is advertised on their website that you can see the stars through the windows of the cabin. But you cannot see them very well due to the church/other cabin lights. We tried to walk around the property in hopes that we'd see more, but the lights from some of the other cabins/church made it impossible. We recommend driving to one of the nearby beaches to get a better view. The blackout shades that were in the cabin worked amazing, so that was super helpful. The walls to the cabin are very thin, you will hear your neighbors and cars going by all night long. This did not bug us too much, but I could see how this would be irritating to some people. Our neighbors left the morning before us and left their trash out, it was still out on the porch the morning we left. We were able to find the trail that was advertised on their website. It was not completed at all, but the trees were marked so we were able to follow the path a bit to see part of the waterfall. It was absolutely gorgeous and it is definitely the highlight of the cabin. The trails and beaches near Munising are absolutely amazing, you cannot go wrong with the area. People are nice and are really helpful. The food in town was pretty good. With all of that said, we do recommend the cabin. The cabin was the cleanest place we have ever rented. Some of the information that they have advertised is misleading, so we felt like it was important to leave an honest review. We do recommend getting the bigger cabin if you plan on cooking any of your food, or bring all of your own cooking surfaces and utensils. The cabin was nice and cozy, the heat worked great. There were more than enough trails and outdoor things to do in the area. We highly recommend visiting and are excited to plan our...
Read moreThe room was nice, but changes need to be made by owners. We all had a great night of sleep and enjoyed the room. There is no staff on site, but they do communicate with you through text, or you can call your host.
We were given a welcome basket for 2. (There were 4 of us) We were provided with a sponge and dish soap for cleaning with plus 3 tablets for the washer. (There is a qr code inside the machine to scan if you have never used a front loader or washer dryer combo.) Use of a small yeti cooler. (Which came in handy as a foot stool when my husband fell down the steep slope and sprained his ankle.)
There was a broken patio chair that we were asked to exchange with another cabin. Paid a cleaning fee of $50 but was told to take out the trash in the departure text. I wiped up water on the floor by tub that my son spilled, and the towel turned brown from the dirty floor. The shower was nice. It started off warm but started cooling off quickly. I'm not sure if the washer (running on cold water) had anything to do with it.
Small fridge only, no freezer compartment, fridge was not noticeably cold when opened but did keep everything cold.
The glass cups they supplied were dirty, so we used our own disposable. The sink was too small to wash and rinse dishes. (Could have used a dish towel/drying pad and/or a drying rack.) The cutting board was glued to the counter, so it made it harder to wash and rinse properly. The rug in front of the sink kept bunching up and was unsafe.
The windows are viewable from the outside, so keep valuables hidden or make sure you shut the blinds before you leave and do anything intimate.
There were two "do not remove" items plugged into the outlets plus a router looking device on the upper wall. They told me the "do not remove" was the internet, so I am not sure why they don't label it as it as such or why there are two plus a router.
The parking spots for the back cabins are better and safer than the front cabins. The front cabins, you park across the street next to a cliff.
There is a trench in front of the (large glass window) cabin from the water (rain or melting snow/ice) coming off the roof, and a trench along the side of the walkway leading to the driveway, causing depression at the bottom of the steep slope, where my husband sprained his ankle.
Also, the air filter that I brought was black when we left, sadly too dirty to clean and reuse, which reminds me that there was at least one cigarette butt in the yard when we arrived. I am not sure if they allow smoking in the cabins, but I would have preferred a...
Read moreWe liked the small studio cabin enough. Modern look, bathroom was really nice.
Shower didn't get very hot. If you like hot showers, this isn't the place.
Upon arrival there were tech issues and our code didn't work and wifi was down. Took around 30 mins for off site staff to respond. Room was mostly clean. Fridge needed to be wiped down better and the pullout bed had sand all over it (they offered to send a housekeeper back but I'd already cleaned up).
No partial refund was offered. I was told there wasn't anything they could do because we booked through Expedia and not them. When I talked to Expedia, they called Explore and Explore denied the request to do a partial refund. So it was definitely up to Explore to offer some kind of refund or upgrade for inconveniences but they declined.
The only mirror in the cabin is in the bathroom. Would be nice to at least have one outside of the bathroom.
Dish soap was provided, but no rack or mat to dry the dishes.
Hooks for coffee cups...but no hooks for coats or dog leashes? Odd.
Noise machine provided was a nice touch. We appreciated that.
Washer/dryer combo is okay, but that space could have been utilized better. I don't need to do laundry so much as I would like another sitting chair, some hooks for jackets, and a spot to put our bags.
They ask you to take your own trash out. :/
It's pet friendly, but not many places for your pet to do their business. All grassy or flat areas are near the cabins...they have to go potty right next to a cabin. It's a little awkward.
That said, there are hiking trails on the property if you want to take your pet through them. We love hiking but it was raining during our stay.
No freezer in the mini fridge. It's more like a wine fridge. Nice looking, but not exactly functional.
Would have preferred a rug in the entrance (there is one outside but it's not enough) to wipe our feet. Parking areas are dirt and that was easy to track in, especially when it rained.
Coffee maker was nice. Would be nice if cream and sugar were provided. Some little extra touches like a s'mores kit would have been fun too.
Overall, not a bad place to stay. Though, for the money you could at least get continental breakfast somewhere else. And could be downtown within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
It's not quiet, a lot of road noise. There is a creek that runs through the property but no...
