Took my mother on a vacation to the UP, and decided to splurge on this motel with a view... While I understand that I paid for the view, I believe for $280 a night, the state of the room is absolutely unacceptable. Dead bugs all over- even in the bed. Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. And on the hottest day of the year, all we had was a moldy 17-year-old window unit (yes, I actually looked it up) to try to keep the room cool. Because of the way the room is laid out, there is a huge wall in the center and the tiny windows are insufficient to get a cross breeze going. I was soaked in sweat the first two nights of my stay. Bathroom had body hair from previous residents piled in the corners. I understand that it is more rustic in the upper Peninsula, but again for the price you are paying, there should be a minimum cleanliness standard. And maybe upgrade the AC window units every once in awhile. I will say the view is absolutely breathtaking and sitting outside on the lake to read was a good time.

The Sunset Motel just might be the best place to stay in Munising (I'm even hesitant to give it such a glowing review for fear that it'll become too popular and we won't be able to stay here). We LOVED this place. We came here on our 1-year anniversary, and it couldn't have been more perfect. Don't let the word "motel" throw you off...this is a mini paradise! It's a stone throw away from the water, facing directly west, so you can catch some of the most beautiful sunsets you've ever seen. Be sure to also gaze up at the stars once the sun goes down, as you get a spectacular unencumbered view of the night sky. The staff was super friendly (Paul at the front desk was extremely nice and gave us some great recommendations). The rooms are simple, very clean and comfortable, and as I mentioned, all have spectacular views (see pictures). For the price and view, it doesn't get much better than this in Munising!

Really loved our stay. Right on the water & beautiful sunsets. These little units are simple & basic but we'll cared for. The A/C units kept up with the heat wave whole we were there. Just minutes from several waterfalls & a great sandy beach (tip- go to the far parking lot for the sand at area). Pet friendly which is great & accommodated our family of 6 just fine. Rooms are small but kitchen is well equipped & there's a living area and dining table in the 2 bedroom. TV & wifi worked just fine. Just grab n go breakfast due to covid, so I can't speak to that. Perfect location for pictured rocks exploration. We rented a pontoon boat instead of taking a cruise. Half day is enough time to see the whole shoreline. Loved it.

Location: great view, quiet setting. Enjoyed the sunsets from the many comfortable seating options in the strip of grass area right next to Lake Superior. Unfortunately, the cars are parked between the roo.s and the lake, so your main view from the lower level rooms is just what you can see around the cars. As for the room, ours was comfy enough. Including a microwave, coffeemaker, mini fridge. There are 2 lower level rooms that have rooms above them. We were in the first one, right next to the office. Not too noisy, which was a pleasant surprise. The first thing we noticed upon arrival (we stayed 4 nights) was the overwhelming musty odor. Very strong even though they had the window open before we got there. The carpet was tired and no longer had any effective padding, so it felt like we were walking directly on concrete. The comforter on the bed was full of stains. The paint in the bathroom was peeling near the shower, and the tub caulking was moldy in places where they tried to repair it on the cheap. The few electrical outlets were so old and worn, making them so loose that the plug in chargers for our phones sort of hung there half out. We could get them to stay in just enough to get them to charge. The first thing we did was head to the local store to find the best option for a room deodorizer we could find (I can recommend Citrus Magic orange scent-be sure to bring a supply of your favorite). We did not get into any of the other rooms, so I can't say whether this is a widespread problem, but given the fact that there are plenty of other reviews that list some of the same issues, I can't imagine that our room was the exception. The owners should be ashamed and embarrassed of their property. They charged $200 a night off-peak and it's quite obvious they have not put anything back into maintaining the property. A pity, because it's a truly...

Booked this motel because it was right on Lake Superior and the room set up met our needs as we were traveling with a friends so the two separate room concept was what we needed. Photos online looked much better than the in person view. Decided to give it a shot and try to make it work. Tub in first room was defective and not sturdy. Our room was changed to one with just a shower. Unfortunately that one had no hot water. Staff on site did try to accommodate sending a plumber etc but finally we just resolved ourselves to the fact that this was as good as it was going to get. We didn’t let it ruin our thrip to this beautiful place. Upon checking out I ran into the owner and shared our dissatisfaction with our stay at his motel. He was very apologetic and told us that the motel will be torn down and replaced in the near future. He graciously credited our card for|3 nights of our four night stay. Good business practice. If visiting the area check out the Comfort Inn or the Beach Inn Motel. He owns both and both are on Lake Superior. Would recommend either of these as the owner was willing to put the...

Every time we visited Munising, we have always stayed in this motel. The view is fantastic. The motel is right on the shore of Lake Superior. We have stayed for three nights sometimes. We have driven to Grand Marais one day and back. Another day we visited Miner's falls and Miner's Castle and went to Christmas, Michigan and returned. On another day we packed a picnic lunch and drove east through a birch forest to a camp ground and place called the Ten Mile beach. We spent the afternoon running down the sand dunes and walking in the cold Lake Superior water along the shoreline with our bathing suits and jackets on in the middle of August. We picked up colorful stones and shells on the beach. We ate sandwiches, drank wine and softdrinks and later returned to the Sunset Motel to clean off the sand in refreshing showers before going to a great Lake Trout dinner at an old house called the Pine Tree restaurant. On another visit we went on the Pictured Rocks cruise before returning to the Sunset Motel...
