Location: great view, quiet setting. Enjoyed the sunsets from the many comfortable seating options in the strip of grass area right next to Lake Superior. Unfortunately, the cars are parked between the roo.s and the lake, so your main view from the lower level rooms is just what you can see around the cars. As for the room, ours was comfy enough. Including a microwave, coffeemaker, mini fridge. There are 2 lower level rooms that have rooms above them. We were in the first one, right next to the office. Not too noisy, which was a pleasant surprise. The first thing we noticed upon arrival (we stayed 4 nights) was the overwhelming musty odor. Very strong even though they had the window open before we got there. The carpet was tired and no longer had any effective padding, so it felt like we were walking directly on concrete. The comforter on the bed was full of stains. The paint in the bathroom was peeling near the shower, and the tub caulking was moldy in places where they tried to repair it on the cheap. The few electrical outlets were so old and worn, making them so loose that the plug in chargers for our phones sort of hung there half out. We could get them to stay in just enough to get them to charge. The first thing we did was head to the local store to find the best option for a room deodorizer we could find (I can recommend Citrus Magic orange scent-be sure to bring a supply of your favorite). We did not get into any of the other rooms, so I can't say whether this is a widespread problem, but given the fact that there are plenty of other reviews that list some of the same issues, I can't imagine that our room was the exception. The owners should be ashamed and embarrassed of their property. They charged $200 a night off-peak and it's quite obvious they have not put anything back into maintaining the property. A pity, because it's a truly...
Read moreBooked this motel because it was right on Lake Superior and the room set up met our needs as we were traveling with a friends so the two separate room concept was what we needed. Photos online looked much better than the in person view. Decided to give it a shot and try to make it work. Tub in first room was defective and not sturdy. Our room was changed to one with just a shower. Unfortunately that one had no hot water. Staff on site did try to accommodate sending a plumber etc but finally we just resolved ourselves to the fact that this was as good as it was going to get. We didn’t let it ruin our thrip to this beautiful place. Upon checking out I ran into the owner and shared our dissatisfaction with our stay at his motel. He was very apologetic and told us that the motel will be torn down and replaced in the near future. He graciously credited our card for|3 nights of our four night stay. Good business practice. If visiting the area check out the Comfort Inn or the Beach Inn Motel. He owns both and both are on Lake Superior. Would recommend either of these as the owner was willing to put the...
Read moreEvery time we visited Munising, we have always stayed in this motel. The view is fantastic. The motel is right on the shore of Lake Superior. We have stayed for three nights sometimes. We have driven to Grand Marais one day and back. Another day we visited Miner's falls and Miner's Castle and went to Christmas, Michigan and returned. On another day we packed a picnic lunch and drove east through a birch forest to a camp ground and place called the Ten Mile beach. We spent the afternoon running down the sand dunes and walking in the cold Lake Superior water along the shoreline with our bathing suits and jackets on in the middle of August. We picked up colorful stones and shells on the beach. We ate sandwiches, drank wine and softdrinks and later returned to the Sunset Motel to clean off the sand in refreshing showers before going to a great Lake Trout dinner at an old house called the Pine Tree restaurant. On another visit we went on the Pictured Rocks cruise before returning to the Sunset Motel...
