Too long didn’t read:|- The management appears willing to withhold crucial safety information until your money is secured|- Customer service exists only until payment is received|- Refunds are apparently not considered even in cases of their own negligence|- Out-of-state visitors should be especially wary, as we felt particularly vulnerable to their practices||After our deeply disappointing experience at Crystal Ranch in Utah, I feel compelled to warn other out-of-state visitors about the unethical business practices we encountered. What should have been a memorable fly fishing adventure turned into a case study of poor management and customer disregard.||The most egregious aspect of our experience was the deliberate withholding of critical information. The owners knew about a massive wildfire (200 miles wide!) raging just miles from the property yet chose not to disclose this crucial detail until our arrival day. This isn't just poor communication – it's a calculated omission that put our safety at risk and wasted our valuable time and money.||Dave, the owner who handled our booking, displayed a telling pattern of behavior. He was remarkably attentive and responsive during the booking process, but once our payment cleared, his communication style transformed completely. Our concerns about the fire situation were met with indifference, and our reasonable request for a refund was flatly denied. It became clear that securing our money was prioritized over our safety and satisfaction.||Lane, who appears to be Dave's duplicitous henchman, demonstrated an even worse level of customer service. When we expressed our legitimate concerns about the nearby fire and air quality, his response was shockingly dismissive - telling us to essentially "suck it up" while bragging that he had "fished many days in ash before." This cavalier attitude toward guest safety and comfort perfectly exemplifies the establishment's disregard for customer well-being.||What makes this experience particularly disappointing is not just the fire incident itself, but the complete lack of professional integrity in handling the situation. A reputable business would have:|1. Informed us about the fire situation well in advance|2. Offered a full refund given the circumstances|3. Maintained professional communication throughout||Instead, Crystal Ranch demonstrated that they prioritize short-term profit over customer safety and satisfaction. I strongly advise potential visitors, especially those traveling from out of state, to consider alternative destinations where customer safety and satisfaction are...
Read moreWe loved the property. It was expansive and beautiful. We saw plenty of deer, a variety of birds, and even a couple of elk on the last morning. The breakfasts and dinners were fantastic! Cornish game hen, fillet mignon, and beef wellington for dinners. Omelettes, blueberry pancakes with blueberry syrup, and french toast for breakfasts. Taking lunch to eat out on the river was peaceful and so enjoyable. The lodge is nice and we loved our windows looking out over the ranch.
And the fishing was probably the best fly fishing I have ever experienced! I was a little concerned that in May we wouldn't catch many, but we caught a lot, and it was awesome! My wife came with us on the river and loved being out there and was happy I caught fish. Eric was our guide, and he was super patient and great. I was like a little kid with him undoing my snags and tangles all the time. He never grew tired of having to tell me the same things repeatedly. One of my favorite things was that on the first day we caught 5 trout species! We caught mostly browns, a rainbow, a cutthroat, a brook, and a tiger trout. That tiger trout was the cherry on top! The other thing we loved was the educational aspect. Eric taught me various techniques. Most of the time we fished with a dry-dropper and were catching them on the dropper. We also fished with just a dry fly and caught some that way. Then Eric taught me how to use a Euro-nymph rig. I had a good hit on that. The other technique Eric showed me was how to fish streamers. I had so many hits, including some really big fish, on the streamers. I finally caught one on a streamer and was so happy! Fishing on the ranch was...
Read moreMy husband and I had a great experience at Crystal Ranch Lodge and Resort. My husband had never been fly fishing before so I was hoping to find a place that would give him a positive experience and “get him hooked!” Lane was our guide and did a fantastic job! He outfitted us with boots, waders, and rods. He took us to various fishing holes, all on the property, and adjusted our flies accordingly. My husband was able to cast and land several fish in the 2 days we fished. This was due to the time that Lane took to teach and explain the technique, then the patience to let him put it into action. The trout were wild, fresh and fun to catch!
Kacie, the Chef, put out world class meals for breakfast and dinner, and supplied us with a delicious box lunch everyday to eat.
In the evenings, we sat outside under the stars by the fire. We were lucky enough to be there during a meteor shower! INCREDIBLE!
We are already talking about when we will have a chance to go back. We are so grateful to everyone at Crystal Ranch that helped to make our fishing trip...
