My husband travels 48 weeks out of the year and stays at Hilton properties, when he has a few days off we take advantage of his points and usually stay at the Hilton in Marco Island. This time around we decided to try something a little different. What a huge mistake that was! When we first arrived we were skeptical it looked like an old Mom and Pop place. But upon entering the lobby we were pleasantly surprised, it was updated, very modern with a view of the ocean that was breathtaking. Then we went to the room with the extremely friendly bellman who seemed overly anxious to please us. When he opened the door and we entered the room the smell just about made me sick. I went to the balcony for fresh air and I have to say the view was absolutely fabulous! My mind was set I could deal with this nasty room with this view. Until... later that afternoon we went to Publix to get some munchies and stuff for the kitchen. When we returned to the hotel I started unpacking our goodies and was mortified! The refrigerator was filthy and looked like it came from a 2nd hand store. The cabinets looked like they came from a 1970's trailer. All of the dishes in the cabinet were filthy, coffee stains food stuck on them! GROSS! I had to go back to Publix to get cleaning supplies and candles for the stench. After spending 3 hours of my vacation cleaning the kitchen and the bathrooms so my family could be comfortable, I took a nice long shower, when I got out I picked up the bathrobe off of the floor to find the welcome package, a 2" cockroach! We were then visited by all of her babies throughout the rest of our trip. When we got home we left our suitcases outside and took a load to the washer at a time so as I hope we have not kidnapped any of Mamas babies!!! To finalize our wonderful vacation in one of Florida's most disgusting hotels, my husband told the front desk several times of our visitors and they promised to send someone to spray, they finally showed up at 8:00 Saturday morning, the day we were leaving, guess what they did? They offered us another night for a charming rate of only $99 (the roaches and dirt is free!)... needless to say we kindly rejected that offer. My husband shared our experience with the diamond desk who assured us they would refund $600 that we were charged for staying there, plus a refund of his points used. Yesterday there was a charge on our credit card for $230 and his points were removed from his Honors Club. Why you ask? Because apparently the hotel manager went to the room the next day and he didn't think it was that bad, so he only gave a $400 credit. At this point it is my duty to serve man kind and share with everyone the deplorable conditions of this facade of a facility. The pictures are doctored so badly on the internet I promise you they are all deceiving! The health department will be notified, the Chamber of Commerce in Naples, the visitors bureau and any other person on this earth that would like to visit this facility and spend their hard earned vacation somewhere that gives you dirty feet , dirty dishes, dirty toilets, holes in the carpet, horrible bedding, dirty old ruined furniture oh and FREE...
Read moreWe booked an extended weekend getaway stay for our anniversary and were looking forward to having some beautiful beach views from our room. One would believe this to be the case since we booked a Gulf water view room. Well apparently we were incorrect. Instead, we had a back stair/pool view. This was brought to the desk attendant attention after we checked in and we were told that our room was a Gulf view. Crazy by anyone's standards as you would have to go out on the ground level patio and look beyond the pool bar to see a glimpse of the water in the distance. In addition, we found our room to have a very musty smell that they simply apologized for??? Seriously we thought. And this all on this past weekend when the place honestly seemed to be a ghost town. Service overall at the facility was poor and limited. We did not get our room cleaned after the first night and called the front desk to explain this and they reiterated that they were surprised by this as we were. Needless to say, similar to the corked bottle of Champaign that remained unopened in the lobby when we arrived, this hotel also did not pop our cork. WE WILL NEVER RETURN OR RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY TO ANYONE ON THIS PLANET. Funny thing is that we have stayed multiple times at other Opal properties and absolutely loved our stay. The Longboat Key Club blows away this resort and we have also stayed numerous times at the Sand Pearl in Clearwater. We loved the Sand Pearl along with the area so much that we bought a beach condo in Clearwater. Note to management, someone needs to take a hard look at this property as it misses the mark on all levels. We also did have drinks at the pool bar, (I switched to beer as this could not be screwed up by the bartender who was more interested in his horse that he bet on at the races) and lunch was similar to that of an Applebee's that we do not choose to frequent. Recap, old property in need of some TLC, management training of the staff and basic supervision. Having a beach and a pool may be fine for some but it did not even come close to floating our boat. To all of you who love this hotel, my apologies that you have not stayed in nicer properties. Try the Longboat Key club Resort or the Sand Pearl as you will find the service and experience light years ahead of this...
Read moreMonday-friday you get a good cheaper rating for nights spent here. Has a beach access with lounge chairs and you have to pay $20 for umbrella. Two pools with bar and towels guys there to serve you with any answers you might have questions to. There was only four things that I absolutely was disgusted with was 1) the elevator on the "odd number" side....it was something out of a horror film when you go to the fourth floor. It started bouncing and you could smell rubber burning while you waited for it to settle. Lights flashed and you just knew you were going to drop. About 20 secs later the door finally opens and you step out. 2) was the blonde lady that I'm assuming either owns this place or is the manager. Her attitude and the way she looks at you was just awful. It was like she had a 12in. Pitch fork up her butt and she is blaming you for it being there. 3) the WiFi didn't work half the time and when it did it wasn't on a secure Network so all of your information would be stolen. 4) was that you had to pay for breakfast. Not a big deal but $10 for a cup of coffee with no refills. It wasn't even good coffee. My 9 year old makes better coffee. Expect to pay close to $40+ just for breakfast. The room was more like an apartment. It was beautiful and comfortable. Had a full kitchen so we just went to Walmart 20 mins away and bought groceries for the duration of our stay. Pots and pans were in the cabinets along with any other utensil you could need with cups galore and plates and bowls. It had a Keurig coffee kcups. You spend 30 extra dollars for the coffee, towels, and bed being made up and that is charged whether you use it or not so let them do it. They have a safe in the bathroom for all your necessity items to be safe. Staff will come in at least 3 times. Once to make your bed in the morning and stock, once to clean, and once to turn down your bed and stock. Very nice people. Beautiful bathrooms and huge shower. Ocean view balcony that over looks the pool area. Non smoking facility with two designated...
