To start, this place asks for so much paperwork it is very unnessesary. The woman at the office, Tracy, was very rude to us because we accidentally brought in an older vehicle registration paper. “this is expired. you need an up to date one or i’m going to send you to the DMV” (we aren’t even from Rhode Island). She did not make us feel welcome whatsoever. Next, the restrooms near our campsite were closed, no one during check in told us this or told us where the nearest ones were. She also did not mention the showers required change, and the change machines were broken for most of our stay. A couple showers were out of order, and there was no indication of this and the coin machine didn’t return anything so we lost some of our change that we did have. There is no tree cover on almost all of the sites, and the sites are extremely small. There is a bunch of underground World War 2 bunkers which have no trespassing signs and no historical markers. In my opinion this would be a great opportunity to share some history of the park with trails and historical signs. Overall, the bathrooms were clean but the park and campsite were not great and we will not...
Read moreThe facilities are nice and they're right near the beaches. Personnel are mostly ok. Now for the bad. You'll have to provide them with a whole lot more paperwork then you'll have ever been asked for from any campground you've ever visited in your entire life. Nearly rivals a visit to the DMV. Photo ID Registration for the RV Registration for your toad Rabies certificate for pets Have to fill out a special form for your pet.
I don't have the foggiest idea exactly why 1, 2, 3, and 5 are necessary when there are tags with the damn year registration is valid for on each damn vehicle. The ID is also ridiculous when I'm using a credit card in the first place. And finally the form for pets is ridiculous when all the freaking information is on the freaking rabies certificate.
So no wonder RI (that owns and runs the campground) is so incredibly tax heavy. They can't even run a campground without making things complicated in order to run up huge costs. 9 billion a year budget for a state with less then a million people and a land mass area of 150 square miles. Absolutely no...
Read moreIt's an ok park. Stayed on site #163 which was nice and private. The site doesn't seem to get checked and cleaned prior to campers checking in as the fire pit was full and small pieces of trash scattered amongst the site. The gal at the desk wasn't friendly at all. It was almost like we were bothering her. Bathrooms gets spot clean, no real cleaning. I was in the bathroom while they were "spot cleaning". You have to pay to take a shower. Which was a surprise. We've been traveling the country and have been to 21 states and this was a first. Cost .75 for 3min and each addt min .25. The reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 is location. It's close swimming, fishing, exploring. Newport is a...
