Wells River Motel — Hotel in Newbury

Worst place I've ever stayed in MY LIFE and I'm middle aged and a housekeeper and laundry lady and have had my own cleaning business in the past. The people that own it or run it, whichever it is are the rudest, most unpleasant, and accusatory man and woman I've ever dealt with at a hotel. To start when I first got here and checked in, the man made sure to tell me 3 times in a matter of 2 mins to not smoke in the room, even though I told him right off that I had quit smoking over a year ago, the first time he said it, so right off at a great start with them basically calling their guests liars. Then we get to our room and right off when we walk in floors haven't been vacuumed and as I said, I'm a housekeeper and have been for over 20 yrs but we let that one slide. So then we go to get in the bed and report the blanket and the top cover off and the flat sheet put down to get in and the bed is covered in hair and dirt so at that point I decide we aren't sleeping in the dirty bed and I walk to the front desk. I knock cuz it's closed or I ring the bell My bad and the man and woman come to the door looking irritated right off because a guest was bothering them so I asked him for clean sheets he tries to refuse me telling me the room's clean and the sheets are clean even though I've explained to him that I'm a housekeeper and they are not clean that is a remade bed so I have to argue with him and defend myself as a liar I guess to give me clean sheets. Then he gives me one flat sheet for the whole bed and ask me what did you spill something on it and I tell him no sir we did not It was dirty from the get-go and again he tells me basically that I'm delusional and a liar because the bed and the room is clean. Should I take my one flat sheet and I pull off the fitted from the bed and throw that one on there under the already dirty flat sheet and use the misfits then we take my blanket that I brought with us because I had a bad feeling and we put that on bottom and put the other two blankets over it so that they're not touching us cuz we don't know how clean they are and bye the look of the room from right from the gecko not that clean. And then as I'm making the bed I look and on the bed cover on the side is blood so I took pictures then my fiance looks behind the nightstand and there's dirt food everything behind the nightstand so he takes pictures. I'm hoping tomorrow goes well when we leave because if you tries to charge my card or if he's rude to me again I'm going to pull out those pictures and let him know that his place is not that great and that I want everyone to know how rude he is I also told him when he was giving me my one sheet that he was very rude man right from the beginning he was rude to me and he tells me that's not rude I'm just tired it's the middle of the night It was 5 minutes to 11 And here's the thing I've worked front desk as well doesn't matter how tired you are you own a business run it right and treat your customers with respect they deserve and don't accuse them of things that they have not done and have no intention of doing. So if you're planning on staying here I hope you read this review first and find someplace way better. Good luck to all you hunting for hotel and good luck to the man and woman that run this place because I will never recommend anyone to come here, EVER. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO BEG FOR CLEAN SHEETS OR TOWELS WHEN THEY'RE PAYING TO STAY IN A HOTEL ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY'RE PAYING ALMOST $150 FOR ONE NIGHT I COULD HAVE GOTTEN A $30 ROOM THAT LOOKED 30 TIMES BETTER...

If you are familiar with the typical roadside motels of the 1950s and 1960s, you should have a basic idea of what to expect of the accommodations of this motel. This is not a resort, but a no-nonsense place to stay that offers the essentials,. It's a little dated, but serves up plenty of nostalgia for the roadtrips of childhood. When I was delayed at the Canadian border later than expected and couldn't make it all the way home that night, I was grateful to find an affordable place to stay last minute along the way that was clean, had a comfortable bed, and air conditioning that worked on a miserably hot day. But what made this a standout experience for me was that a few weeks later, I realized I had left behind a ring that had a lot of sentimental value for me. I had little hope of finding it, but when I contacted the motel, not only had they found it and put it aside, but the owner put it in the mail for me the very next day and didn't even want payment for the postage. He even followed up to make sure it had arrived. This to me is the type of service that makes me happy to support a small family business like Wells River Motel, and if I find myself in the area again, I will definitely book a room here...

This place got unfair reviews from people for sure. The couple that own this place are super friendly. They live right on property. We asked them about the reviews and you could tell it upset them and it wasn't them. They even let us see the room before we went in. It was all hand picked decor and decorations by the wife. You could tell a lot of work was put in. The bathroom tile and shower were brand new. It was small but welcoming. A great place to stay especially if you are passing through like we were. There isn't anything to do on the property itself but there are couple of local places to eat. It's a very small town and I feel like some of the especially nasty reviews might have been from some pompous people looking for a five star hotel in the city. The room was very clean.
