Every moment of our visit to the Itty BItty Inn was a delight! We were greeted warmly by a staff member upon our arrival who gave us the lay of the land, offered us complimentary drinks from the taps in their office, and offered some helpful tips on places to check out in the local area. We were lucky enough to score room 1701....the Star Trek room! And it blew us away when we walked in, from the murals of the bridge on the walls, to the console with all sorts of lights and sound effects to play with....I don't want to spoil all the surprises that await future visitors, but there were all sorts of Trek-related discoveries to be made around the room.
The room itself was spotlessly clean and amazingly well-insulated, both temperature-wise and sound-wise; we found no need to turn on the heater despite chilly outside temps, barely heard low rumble from traffic, and didn't hear a peep from our neighbors staying either side of us. Loved the 60's era furnishings as well, so cool! The room is cozy without feeling cramped, and featured an ingenious mudroom/pass-through counter setup where shoes could be stored and the fridge/microwave/coffeemaker were located (coffees/teas: most excellent!). Plenty of storage options throughout as well for all our stuff. Bathroom was immaculately clean too!
And I haven't even gotten to Rik the innkeeper yet. As you will no doubt read in other reviews, he is just a really engaging, warm, funny, informative human being that is intent on taking care of his visitors and making sure everything is just right. (Including helping us track down an item we mistakenly left behind at checkout.) We literally have zero complaints, only praise for this experience and are planning to stay here every single time we're in this area. Honestly, we had never considered North Bend as anything but a place to pass through, but it's centrally located to a lot of cool things to see & do (Bandon, Coos Bay, the Cape Arago/Shore Acres string of beaches and state parks, dunes begin just north of town, waterfalls, etc, etc). Our highest recommendation! Value, hospitality, cleanliness and overall uniqueness are...
Read moreThis place is great! This part of the coast is an easy motorcycle ride from where I live in the Willamette Valley, so I recently found myself heading down for a solo weekend retreat. A few minutes after checking in I was already planning and plotting my next visit. I have to bring my wife here! I have to recommend this place to friends! Family! Strangers on the internet! If you’re thinking “that guy needs to learn to live in the moment,” you’re not wrong. But never mind that. Let me tell you how much fun this place is and why you should come here.
An obvious comparison would be another roadside motel, but that’s like doing a taste test between a warm PBR and a cold, fresh, local craft beer, which they have on tap in the office, incidentally. Cider, too. And it's good!
No, I think the Itty Bitty Inn stacks up much better against so-called short-term rentals, AirBnb, VRBO, etc. Even in those matchups this place wins. By a lot. For one, it’s obvious that the owner and his family really take pride in the place. It was everything I wanted in a place to sleep and hunker down: comfortable, clean, etc. It was stocked with some great extras like an electric kettle and an assortment of teas. There was cocoa, too. The internet was fast, the shower was hot and the water pressure was great. I stayed in the Oregon Trail themed room, which is admittedly one of the least “fun” rooms, but the price was right and it was available on the dates I needed.
The Itty Bitty is close to downtown, which turned out to be one of my favorite things about it. I had never done anything in this area but cruise through on the way to somewhere else, but with Rick and family’s recommendations I saw a side of North Bend that I never would have known existed. I walked a few blocks each time I got hungry, and was not at all disappointed with the food and beverages I had. Rick had several recommendations for local music, too.
In my brief stay, I barely took advantage of all that the Itty Bitty Inn has to offer. Next time I’d like to bring family/friends and borrow bikes, go for a paddle, stay in one of the other funkier rooms. But still, I can’t...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying in the Star Trek room at the Itty Bitty Inn for two nights in May, 2025. I rolled in on a Wednesday afternoon with a solid case of travel-related brain fog and as soon as I unfolded myself from the driver’s seat I encountered the charismatic and ridiculously charming innkeeper, Rik. Rik was full throttle energy, equal parts witty and welcoming, giving strong Elliot Garfield vibes. He launched into a discussion about Star Trek and before I could fully steady my bearings he flashed the Vulcan salute (Live Long and Prosper!) and announced “Let’s go!” Being slow on the draw in that particular moment, I awkwardly threw down a hand gesture that looked more like a peace sign. Oopsie. But Rik pretended not to notice and off we went to see my room. The Star Trek room was a legitimate mid-century lollapalooza complete with sound effects from the bridge of the SS Enterprise, a myriad of colorful blinking lights, old Star Trek episodes for late night viewing, a Cyrano Jones tribble and other memorabilia including a communicator, a 3D chess board and a phaser (on stun, of course) in case you encounter a Klingon in the parking lot. There were MANY more fascinating details which you should check out for yourself! My room was cozy and very clean, with fresh towels delivered daily and plenty of hot water. I have no complaints! Rik was a font of local knowledge, with excellent suggestions on what to do and where to grab a bite around North Bend. I went hiking at Golden and Silver State Park, which was muy tranquilo. If you are looking for off-beat lodging that defies the cookie cutter standard or if you are a connoisseur of mid-century culture, then Itty Bitty Inn is the straight-up bomb. ...
