When my wife told me that we and our traveling party of 6 were going to a play titled William Shakespeare Anchorman at the Liberty Theater I was curious. After the performance I was thrilled to have been in the house for what was a memorable performance by both cast and crew. From the actors to the choreography and stage mechanics it seemed unbelievably cohesive in the telling of the story, the Athens Anchorman. We’re from Lawrence, Kansas, and regularly attend live performances at our local theater. My family owned a theater in Iowa and I graduated with a Theater major. This once delapidated playhouse, I assumed would be torn down, has been given a major shot of life. I attended a performance of Avenue Q this evening (1-4-19) and had a blast! I was informed they're in the 4th of a 7 phase renovation. So it will only get better. It's smaller size makes the whole experience intimate and personal. At the same time, they do a nice job of producing on a wide range of live performances, music, and special events. Read moreI was able to purchase a ticket one hour prior to the show starting. Although it's $22 stated on ticket I was charged $24 I think for additional service? Not really sure. The show was Oliver. It was quite darling and local talent was pretty good. It did bring a tear to my eye and highly recommend it.
