When we arrived we were confused where to go to check in. The parking deck and resort were across the road from the reception which we only found out by asking someone staying at the Condominiums.
After checking in we were very happy with our room, it seemed clean and just what we needed for everybody. When we sat out on the balcony we noticed that many of our surrounding neighbors seemed to be smoking and were quite noisy.
The main issues occurred around 10pm when we tried to get some sleep. The sound of other condo guests music and conversation kept us all awake. This went on until around 3am.
Understanding that this weekend was a long weekend and other guests in the condo's were just enjoying themselves we didn't complain.
Saturday night was much the same. As it was a nice evening we sat on the balcony with the patio doors to our room open. Again our surrounding neighbors seemed to be smoking and playing loud music. Around 9pm our smoke alarms started to go off. Not just one of them but every single one in the apartment. No one in our apartment was cooking or smoking so we can only assume that this was some kind of fault or was due to our neighbors smoke? We called down to reception to check that this wasn't a problem for everyone in the hotel and they advised they would send maintenance up to us to check it out.
We closed the patio doors and got our kids back to sleep. Around 9:45pm maintenance still had not arrived and as the alarms hadn't gone off again since closing the doors, we called back down to ask that they come tomorrow as we did not to wake up our kids and now my Mother in law, who had gone to bed because of not getting much sleep the night before. (As a side note, maintenance never did show up in the morning either...) Unfortunately music and noisy condo guests continued again until around 2am.
Sunday night was the worst night yet. Again the loud music, smoking and partying started around 7pm. Finally at 10pm we called down to reception to ask they find out where the music was coming from. The bass from the music was actually shaking our room and keeping everyone awake. The lady working on reception, was very helpful and promised that she would take care of things. About an hour later the music seemed to stop. Unfortunately we were awoken again a little while later when it came back on. Thankfully it stopped again around 12am. Finally getting some sleep we were woken up around 3am by a lot of loud banging followed by banging and screaming outside and on our door. Our door, along with what sounded like every door on our floor was trying to be kicked open, with shouts and screams from someone threatening to burn the hotel down. The bad language and swearing was awful. My children were pretty frightened about what was happening and we weren't sure what we should do, or if the hotel were aware of what was happening. Again we called reception informing them this person was trying to kick in peoples doors and was making threats. We were told "that the reception at that time was just covering for our reception, which had closed for the night, and as it was a local issue we needed to call the local police ourselves" ??? Surely this is something that the condominium reception desk should be doing, when a customer/guest calls? The screaming and banging then moved from floor to floor and finally stopped. Lets just say it took a long time to get everyone back to sleep.
All in all our weekend vacation would have been brilliant, had it not been spoilt by the evenings, it seemed like there was no care for guests who wanted a quiet night.
It was disappointing that Sunday morning we had put some of the guest yellow towels out on our balcony to finish drying and within 15 mins we had a knock at the door to ask we take them down. We could not understand how the staff could take action on this so fast when people seemed to be able to run wild and do as they wish in the evenings with no regard to condominium policies. I doubt very much we would risk booking here or in any other Wyndham...
Read moreStaying at Bahama Sands is a great location in Myrtle Beach. However, we did have some issues that if addressed, would have made this a very pleasant stay.
First, the check in was late. We drove in early hoping we might be able to get an early check-in. Although we know it can't be guaranteed, we did not receive a phone call that our room was ready until 4:30pm (later than the standard check-in time) and by the time we returned back to the property, we weren't in the room until after 5pm in the evening. I asked if we could have a couple of hours on the other end of our stay as a late checkout so we might enjoy a few more hours on the beach that day and was told that could not be guaranteed. Yet, my guaranteed check IN time was not provided to me. It goes both ways.
The room was a nice layout and good space, but cleanliness was a concern. There were bits of food and items left behind from previous guests behind the furniture that were obviously never moved to deep clean before the next guest arrived.
We had several things that did not function properly and have spent the week seeing maintenance people come and go. Ice maker, disposal, broken towel rack and stopped up sink and bathtub were items that needed repaired. And we are only half way through the week. I will say the maintenance staff was quick to respond and very friendly.
The room services are just not up to par from housekeeping. No coffee, dish soaps, dish towels and dish cloths were left in the room daily. We decided to buy some as we weren't getting them supplied. We understand that a deeper clean happens every 3rd day on the service schedule, however the quick services were not sufficient on the off days. The deep clean was better but on off days we were left to walk through sandy floors with no broom or cleaning supplies provided in the room.
Last, I just don't feel we were appreciated here as a guest. We asked about the availability to stay some extra days and were told they were available at $500+/night. (Higher than our original rate). We declined and then the next day we were called and given an offer of 35% discount if we decided to stay. This is obviously an attempt to get us to first pay full price, then we didn't, we were offered the discount. Why shouldn't the entire stay now be discounted by 35%? I obviously now know I OVERPAID for the entire week. I like the property, but I wouldn't stay again unless I was assured of...
Read moreI am sure that every unit is different but this is what we experiences in PH07, Bahama Sands, North Myrtle Beach. The unit has obvious wear and tear as you would expect of a rental on the beach. The unit had 3 double beds, a king bed and possibly a hide-a-bed. It was a nice size and the air conditioning worked well. All rooms had ceiling fans. There is a washer and dryer in the unit. Three bathrooms. All satisfactory for a beach vacation. The usual musty smell from the beach. The balcony was large, accommodating 8 chairs. The unit came with 4 plastic chairs and 2 small plastic endtables. The bedding was adequate and there were plenty of towels. The unit was quiet though we smelled cigarettes and weed daily when we were on the balcony. Strict no smoking policy that is in no way enforced.||The main complain I have is that for several thousand dollars weekly, the unit was stocked the cheapest of any condo I have ever been in. The cabinets were 90% empty. There is an oven, but no oven mitt so bring your own or use the bath towels. There are no scissors or even a bottle opener so bring those too. There were plates and bowls and coffee cups. About 8 settings of silverware and 3-4 pots. There were a few basic kitchen utensils so if you are creative, you will be ok. There is a toaster and a basic coffee pot. Oh yes, there was salt and pepper. We were supplied with one trash bag to last a week, one pod for dishes and one pod for laundry. We had to buy scissors, a can opener, garbage bags, laundry and dishwashing detergent and extra toilet paper. I used towels to get baked goods out of the oven. Oh, we were given 1/2 of a sponge (literally cut in two) for the kitchen. Be careful with the toilet paper supply too. For $15 at a garage sale, this kitchen could have been adequately furnished. As we found it, you literally need to bring your own kitchen supplies from home to function here. The remote in the living room didn't have batteries so bring those too! ||Having a properly supplied kitchen would have made our stay much more enjoyable. Like I said, the condo was what I expected, not pristine (they all have some age on them) and beach living is tough on condos but the lack of amenities was a major drawback for us. In a week we had to hit Walmart three times to get what we would have expected to be...
