Before the pandemic this location was GREAT. Especially, with the happy hour specials, their service, the live music, the game room, server helpfulness and much more. However, this past Sunday I called in a to place a to go order and was passed off to someone else and it took about a minute before I could even order. Then after I placed my order of a wrap and a burger I was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. I figured it must really be busy for such a long wait time. But when I got there the parking lot was barely full. I saw 4 employees and none were wearing a mask. One hostess had the mask around her chin which isn't any protection so why bother. The live music was ridiculously loud with only a few patrons inside....literally loud like a concert. Maybe thats why the employees weren't wearing masks so you could read lips or hear them talk. They had the required signage saying wear a mask, socially distance, dont come in if you're sick, etc which is why it baffled me as to why masks weren't on(or on properly). I get that you cant "enforce" customers but as a business you can certainly do better with employees. Once the pandemic is over (if it ever is) then maybe I will attempt to visit again.

Edited, I lowered it from a two-star to a one-star when I noticed all the obvious possibly fake reviews giving five stars. So this is a rebuttal. My wife and my two kids went there for dinner. First, let me say our server, Crystal, was very nice and attentive. To start off the nachos and the chips that come with the crab dip have way too much salt on them. Management, take note that maybe you don't need salt on the chips. There were some that had so much salt on them, I had to wipe the salt off of them off in order to enjoy just one chip. The nachos were pretty good again, except for salt . My burger was about the only thing that came out good, we had to send back my son's macaroni with shrimp and some sort of sauce, it was tasteless and a ton of macaroni and these little, what seemed like, frozen shrimp. Management take notice again, give a staff member $5 from petty cash, and send them to Home Depot to pick up a lock for the one bathroom stall in the men's room which is missing a lock, there are children that use these restrooms. 😁 It's an okay place, a little loud too much Echo and just loud. The food was just okay.

The food was good, but not as unique as I'd hoped after hearing about this restaurant. What I think we were most disappointed by was the service. It was very much touch and go, depending on the course. Our apps came out hot, fresh and in a timely manner, but the entrees came out VERY shortly after. We had at least four different servers throughout the meal and requests given at the time we ordered (like extra Ranch dressing, mayonnaises, etc.) had to be asked for again after the food had been served. My better half had to go through the beer list three times because the waitress returned twice to say that the first two (in house brewed) beers he ordered were not available. He semi-jokingly said that if she came out a third time and said they didn't have the beer he'd ordered, he was just going to ask her which beers they DID have. Our daughter (who lives here; we're visiting) was a bit surprised that this location wasn't nearly as good as the one they've been to a few times before. Maybe we'll try one of the other locations before we head back home...

We sat down, and our server told us that it was a new menu and he knew nothing about it because they hadn't trained them or let them try any of the new food. First red flag, but we ordered and our server really tried his best with the new menu. No restaurant business should have a new menu without training any of the staff on it at all. Then, we received 3 out of four dishes (still not all at the same time). Our server constantly apologized and checked on us and was very respectful about everything. I did not receive my meal until about 40-45 minutes later than the rest of my party, they were all finished and their dishes were cleared by the time I got my food. Our server said that my meal would be taken off the bill, but we didn't really feel like that was enough for the 45 minutes I had waited to get my food when everyone else was already done eating. I really want to highlight that I do not think any of this is the fault of our server, as he wasn't trained on new menu items---it became apparent why he wasn't trained when we asked to speak to the general manager Deena. She was cold, rude and blamed our server that he didn't communicate with us about how the tuna I got in my meal was frozen and needed to be thawed. How was he supposed to know that if he wasn't trained on the new menu items?.. which he had told us as soon as he sat down, so it is not like he is trying to use that as an excuse after the mistake was made. When we commented about the tuna being frozen she just said "I sold lots of those today." I could tell just by her attitude that Deena does not care about her staff or about her customers. We were even talking about it and she was eavesdropping, came up to our table and told us that she could hear us talking about her. Good! We hope Deena could hear us because she needs a serious attitude fix and I feel terrible for all her staff that have to deal with her and who aren't getting trained properly. This wasn't my first time at The Grumpy Monk, but after this, I don't feel comfortable going back until Deena gets fired and they get a proper general manager so that their staff are trained properly and so that customers aren't left feeling disgusted by her attitude after speaking with her. A business is a simple thing, and she seemed to make it into a...

I try not to write many negative reviews but this place was absolutely appalling.

Not really sure what happened but we are from out of state and visited yesterday with a reservation in advance, party of 10. We arrived at 7:30pm and were seated outside by the water. View was very nice and the weather was warm. Our server took our drink orders quickly and then arrived with our drinks in a few minutes.

After that, things went bad very quickly. Once everyone received their drinks, she took our food order and then disappeared for over 20 minutes. It was not busy. She came back to ask if we wanted any refills but we were starting to wonder what was going on after 45 minutes…we had four young children getting frustrated and tired and honestly after an hour of waiting with no explanation or apology…we were frustrated and tired of waiting too! We ended up being the only table left outside (in poor lighting, I literally had to get my phone out and balance it on the table to use it as a flashlight, I’m not kidding, I wish I was).

The mosquitoes began to feast on us whilst we were trying to eat our less than impressive food in the dark. Kids were upset and it honestly ruined our evening, we had planned to go on the ferris wheel but we waited over an hour (1 hour & 20 minutes for three dishes to arrive!) for food so everything was closed. None of the food came out at the same time either and the kids food came last. The service was absolutely awful, not once did we receive a single apology for the wait, neither did we receive any comp for the wait and poor service.

I know that some restaurants have bad days, but that is still no excuse for poor service and literally keeping people in the dark about what the issues are so that we could make a more informed decision on whether to leave or stay.

I absolutely do not recommend this place especially if you have a group. If I could give a minus 1 for service I would. Check out anywhere else but this, I promise it’s...

Such a disappointment!!!. The place itself is very cool and the server was so sweet… BUT.. When we had questions about the menu they explained that the management doesn’t train them at all on the new menu items so couldn’t answer any of our questions. (At no fault to the server!!) There were 4 of us in our party and 3 of us received our meals somewhat close together but the final meal (a new menu item) came 45min later. Our server kept checking on us and apologized profusely and was visibly stressed about it. Told us of course it would be taken off the bill. The 3 of us were long furnished our meals by the time it came. We asked for the manager (very nicely) because this was a big issue. Deena came to the table looking ready to fight. I’ve never ever experienced a supposed “general manager” with such a bad attitude!!! Clearly because this was likely not the first table she was called over to. She said in a very rude demeanour basically that it was our servers fault for not communicating with us (except that they did) she said the tuna needed to be thawed and that we should have been told we needed to choose something else.. when I asked why they didn’t have the tuna thawed she replied “well I’ve sold 4 or 5 already today!!” As if it was somehow our fault of ordering it!! If Deena knew how to do her job properly all her staff would know that dish was unavailable before taking an order at the table. Or to advise that it would take an extra 45min. But she clearly doesn’t waste her time training her servers. From her brutal attitude it’s clear she hates her job.. thinking it’s time she gets a new one. I feel so bad for her staff!! If this is how she treats paying customers I can only imagine how she treats her staff!! Such a shame for such...
