I‘m a 41 year old man who has been lucky enough to have traveled to 46 states and 13 countries all while being wheelchair bound. Some experiences were absolutely amazing and others were very disappointing. Unfortunately, this is the most negative review I’ve ever written about any place I have stayed at. The worst part about it is, it could have very easily been prevented. Because of the way my Family and I were treated by the owner of Grand Shores West in North Redington Beach, Florida. I feel it is very important to let everyone know who may be considering staying there, what they may be up against, especially if you’re disabled like my Mother and I. To begin with, after we had traded our week to Grand Shores West thru RCI for our March 7‐14th 2015 visit, I called Grand Shores West on November 9th, 2014 to let them know we would be needing a wheelchair accessible room. I called again on January 24th 2015 to confirm that we still would be needing an accessible room. Everything seemed fine on their end. We arrived at Grand Shores West about 12 noon on March 7. We were a few hours early to check in so we waited by the pool. The grounds around the pool and the beach were beautiful. At 3pm we were able to check in. As soon as we got to our room 104, we noticed a very outdated room which was in need of a 30 year makeover. Mom and I were most interested in the bathroom because both of us are disabled. An accessible bathroom is an absolute must. The bathroom was the smallest full bathroom I have ever seen. The bathroom door was very narrow. My wheelchair is 29 inches wide and it wasn’t even close to being able to fit thru the door. The tub and shower had a huge lip on it and had no grab bars. There was no way that either mom or I could use this bathroom. It was the furthest thing I’ve ever seen from being considered accessible. We went to the front desk to inquire about why we were not placed in an accessible room. The owner of the building (who I was told by one of his employees was named Bobby Tapolos) came to the desk to discuss our situation. He made it very clear to us that he was never made aware that we were in need of an accessible room. He also informed us that his only handicap room was being occupied by someone who was not disabled. He said he would not ask that person to move. I told the gentleman that I had called two times to confirm the accessible room but he wanted absolutely no part in anything I had to say to him. We called RCI and they didn’t have anything available because of spring break. At that point, we had no choice but to drive twelve hours back home. We were very disappointed at how we were treated by the manager of Grand Shores West. The manager made no attempt to help us work out a solution or offer any suggestions for another timeshare we could possibly go to with an accessible room. I would never recommend Grand Shores West to anyone, especially if you are disabled. This vacation that never happened was a huge disappointment. If the owner cared about the people who keep him in business, he would have worked to help us have a wonderful week. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Grand Shores West does not deserve your business and RCI should be embarrassed that they are affiliated with...
Read moreSo I normally don’t like to write bad reviews about hotels but this one I just had to. So first off when we got to this Hotel we went inside our room as soon as we went inside it smelled like mildew and it was very dusty. It was also very hot it took hours to just get to a normal temperature. And then stopped working the air condition. We then ask the front desk to fix it they eventually fixed it. Also they gave us an air humidifier to take out the nasty smell in the hotel. A day later I started to have this itching feeling then turned around and there was a bedbug next to me I then reported it to the front desk and they gave me a New room which was very nice from them. When we went to our new room we had the same issues it smelled really bad so we then again used the humidifier to take away the smell. It took hours just to get rid of a little bit of the smell. The original room that we had had a bigger up-to-date TV and when we went to the next room it had an old small TV. The room looked almost the same but it seemed like the room had a little bit more cracks and dents and also more stains on the ground. They are redoing this whole hotel this year but I advise you to not go to this hotel till it’s done. Staff are nice but the rooms are just not it. Location though is nice. If you don’t care about where you sleep then this hotel is for you. But if you absolutely can’t stand nasty looking and smelly looking hotels then don’t come here. Like I said I really don’t like writing bad reviews to hotels but I just had to for this one. I don’t know why they give this hotel a three star unless the room that I was staying in was the worst they gave me. But so far the two rooms that I have moved to I have been the same. Just so you know I stayed here 2 weeks ago from vacation. I give the rooms a 1.0 out of 5 but the location is a 4 out of 5. The staff are also a 4 out of 5. The only issue is, is that I don’t understand if we had several issues with our first Room why they didn’t give us a better room and at least a decent looking one. I was not expecting the second room to look fancy or anything was just expecting a nice smelling well cleaned room that’s all. Wouldn’t stay here again UNLESS or until they renew the part of the hotel that they need to renew. I stayed here June 6 2021 until...
Read moreWe always enjoy our time at Grand Shores! We connect with family every year and it makes for a perfect get away! The pool is warm and relaxing. There is a hot tub but we didn't use it. The beach is perfect with all the glorious colors you can imagine for an ocean beach to have. Sunsets are spectacular too!! 🌞
The staff here are so attentive and kind. They bend over backwards to help when asked. The photos of our room were when we were leaving (sorry for the mess!) but everything is comfortable, although a bit rustic. The management is in the process of remodeling all units though and a pic of what it'll look like is included too. The units will be really wonderful when complete. Even though construction was happening, it didn't ever bother our sleep or beach play time. The site offers FREE cushions for the beach loungers, FREE kayaks, and FREE rides on a catamaran too. The water is calm for floating and we saw dolphins when kayaking too! We even saw some little (~2 ft?) sting rays feeding at the shore line around 11 am one day - so exciting! (see pic) The sand feels like silk and is one of my favorite features here. 🤩
We definitely recommend this place! It's affordable, has a full size fridge, mini 4 burner stove, mini oven, regular microwave, toaster, etc. Bathroom has a regular tub shower which is perfect for a family with littles. Our girls slept in their sleeping bags on the pull out couch and were comfortable. Queen size bed in the other room that was separated by pull doors that hide away. Parking is in front, around back, and across the street with easy pedestrian walkways. The facility also offers bell hop carts (with wheels) to load/unload your car - so handy!
Book your stay soon, you won't...
