My regular hotel was all booked and I asked a friend for a recommendation. I did book the cheapest hotel room, I had minimal expectations in that dept. Great price for the location! The moldy smell lingered tho.... My shower cabin had cracked floor (gross!) and was so tiny I had to shave my legs in the sink. I had to stand on one leg to do it, which was not great since I hurt my knee just a couple of months prior. No shampoo, no conditioner. Bar soap. We used more than the whole roll of toilet paper in just 5 days- we didn't even stay in the room much, the paper was just so cheap. Not the most beautiful beach I've seen in US, but good. I felt the grounds were over manicured: plenty of concrete, little greenery. I have never before seen a pool being covered for the night. Especially not at 5 PM! And that is where I had the biggest issue: the management set this unwelcoming atmosphere. The place seemed dead after sunset.....not what I am used to ( I am in my 40ies, I do not expect partying. My old hotel just seemed way friendlier). Too many rules for my taste. The biggest turnoff: no cleaning whatsoever. Supposedly due to Covid. Since the breakout I've been to UT, NV, panhandle FL and MI. From Caesar's Palace to Motel 6, literally. This was the only hotel that refused to clean my room. Most just either asked if I am ok with it or wanted me to request it when I did. Unacceptable! The cleaning ladies were great and asked us voluntarily if we needed clean towels. The office was empty when there was time to check out. We left the key in the room, only to notice the reception lady smoking ciggies in the back when we got to the car with...

Read moreMy wife booked this gem of a property in mid December as a staycation for 2 days as quick getaway before the rush of the holidays. And although the property has had some fantastic upgrades I'm very sure I stayed here as a 10 year old when I came on vacation with my parents about 28 years ago. The beautiful beach is just as remember it not as wide and fine sand with plenty of shells. I remember playing with a young kid my age at that time; jumping the floors, and when I brought that up I realized that the same family still runs the business to this day. I slept well and my view of the water was superb. The pool was warm and heated. And the grounds of the property were well kept. The staff recommended great restaurants in the area for lunch and dinner the Frog Pond for breakfast. Omelets are huge and satisfying. Don't forget the Conch Republic for seafood as well as the Salt Rock Grill which was just delicious for an...
