Please read this entire message (review). DO NOT STAY AT THIS RESORT. The photos are not what they look like. Don’t be swayed by the photos. They are not true. When I booked our room, I KNOW I CLICKED on a room with a “Sea View/Balcony”. When I received the email, I noticed it did not display a Sea View/Balcony so I called Agoda (payment company) the next day. The customer service rep was very nice. He told me they were sorry, but I did not get a room with a Sea View/Balcony, the room has a view of the pool area. He told me he could cancel my room and refund me. I was stuck with no place to go. I had to take it. My wife and I arrived in the evening. The person behind the desk handed me the keys to our room, Information Sheet, and Parking Pass. He then pointed where our room was. We walked in our room: The entire area had an unusual odor. The floors in the rooms had sand on them. We could not walk barefooted because they were not clean. The bedroom window view outside had decaying lumber piled up to the window. The bathroom shower curtain rod was sitting on top of where the shower door used to be. If you touch the shower curtain the rod slides off and the curtain comes down. The living room table has patches of the tabletop missing. The dining room table has patches of the tabletop missing. I then walked down to the front desk representative and explained that the floors are covered with sand and asked if someone could come vacuum the floors. The representative told me he could not get anyone down there, but he could GIVE ME A BROOM. I said, “I have to clean the floors?”. He did not reply. I walked away. The next day I went down to the front desk and talked to another representative. I again explained that the floors were covered with sand, and could he have someone come vacuum the floors? He said, yes, if you are not there can they come in and clean, I replied, YES. No one ever came the entire three days we were there to do anything. The information states “We do not provide daily housekeeping”. Remember that. On Saturday night we went out to eat and when we came back and the was no parking in front, so we were instructed to park across the street behind the teal building. At the same time there was another family having to do the same thing and they were angry. They later told me they were not satisfied with their room. I parked my car, but the area gave me the feeling that you could get mugged, or your vehicle broken into. DON’T STAY HERE. THEY DON’T CARE. We did not let this ruin out mini vacation, but we were not happy about what we experienced.

Staff was friendly/courteous. Front desk not very informative and had to ask what room number was given. Not enough parking for the premises or handicap parking. ($15 fee for guest parking) Distance to nearest grocery store is within 5 miles either North or South (Reasonable). Safety hazard at entry/exit of building. Safety/do not cross yellow tape placed to prevent injuries due to property damage. Property cleanliness was fair. Cleanliness/Quality of room is poor. * Bathroom toilet appeared to be used/not cleaned. * Bathroom floor had urine. * Tub appears to be damaged or glaze is peeling/chipping off. * Air vents are dirty with dust and appears to be mold with water dripping down the walls. * Walls and doors are dirty and noticeable upon entry to room. * Bed linens are white and have numerous stains upon examination. * Door to room has no child safety precautions like a deadbolt or chain. Door handle is easily accessible and easy to open/unlock for young children. * Kitchenette and backsplash is dirty and hole in cabinet area underneath allows access to bathroom piping and is also exposed. * No telephone in the room or working phone for property. * Not enough towels provided for number of guests for our room or soap. * To obtain towels you must sign out for them at the front desk and told they must be returned by 9pm the same day. * No do not disturb signs available. * No safe provided for valuables. * No blackout curtains for daylight or bright fluorescent lights above door. * Window blinds are new, but still don't allow privacy. * Housekeeping does not come to your room to do spot cleaning while you are occupying the room. *Occupants are expected to take out their own trash and get new bags from the front desk. **With COVID being a big issue at this time, you would expect the rooms to be much cleaner than they are. Property is out dated and needs better management. The only thing I liked about this location was quiet residential location/area and beach front property.

We just finished a nine night stay here. We had a gulf view, 3rd floor, two bedroom suite. The view over the public beach outside our two patio doors was awesome. Even saw some dolphins swim by! Sunsets were incredible. Also, the A/C worked great! Other pros: The room was recently remodeled, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchenette met our needs. The location is close to shopping and great food. There is a lounge area on the first floor along the beach that was breezy and comfortable. Though we didn't use the pool, it was clean and well maintained. There were a few cons: The number one thing we disliked was the layout of our room. The "master suite" with the king bed was a bedroom with no windows. We specifically look for a king bed when booking rooms, but didn't really get to enjoy that on this trip, as listening to the waves a night outweighed our desire for true comfort most nights. No housekeeping, but there is so much sand, they need to provide brooms. The walls are very thin, so you can hear everything. Most of the front desk staff was very stand-offish, including the manager. We wish smoking wasn't allowed on decks - as non smokers surrounded by people smoking both cigarettes and weed, it wasn't the most pleasant thing a few nights. One last positive, and it's a big one.... Brian at the front desk is one of this place's best assets. He's awesome! Our whole stay he was very friendly and personable. We were there during Tropical Storm Eta, and Brian made sure we were taken care of and safe. He made sure we knew how to reach him if we needed anything during the night. Overall, we would highly recommend the Sandalwood Beach Resort. we can't wait to go back!

There are two reasons this place gets one star instead of 0.

  1. the bed was comfortable, the linens very clean and I didn’t see any bugs. I’m writing this review from said bed.

  2. from the furthest room in the “resort” (this is a motel, let’s be honest) you are two flights of stairs and 20 ft from stepping onto the beach. Prime location.

But….theres always a but…that’s where anything positive about this place stops.

I don’t even know how to write the rest of this. The night Audit was very nice when we checked in a 9p. Gave us our keys. That’s it. Parking is atrocious. There’s maybe 20 spots out front. Then you’re crossing a 4 lane road to park in the barely lit “overflow” parking behind the store across the street. We got into our room and unlocked the door. (With keys, no cards here. You get two keys per set. One for the front door of the hotel, that doesn’t lock so it’s pointless, the other for your room. You can’t lock the door with the key. Only unlock. Because it’s using cheap push button style door locks. The room. It was “clean”. There is sand everywhere, but it’s beachside, I kind of expected that. The floors are. Special. Whoever did them in our room didn’t really understand how you’re supposed to stagger the vinyl planks so they look good. The quarter round and every transition in the room was liquid nailed down. Horrible. There’s so many gaps to the subfloor at every corner, and doorway. The place feels like it hasn’t been renovated since it was built in the 60s and cleaned since the 90s. They don’t do refunds. And it’s right on the beach so we are grinning and bearing it. But my lord. We will never be staying here again. If this hadn’t been an impromptu getaway and the location of this place wasn’t so perfect Id have charge backed and gone home the night we checked in. Lucky for the motel though, the wife loves the location and we plan on spending most of our time not in the room. But man. A previous reviewer said (paraphrasing) “You walk in and feel dirty”. He’s absolutely right. If I’d have walked past a lady of the night, or a gentleman of the night offering chemical enhancements, I’d have not been surprise. In fact. I’m kind of surprised this hasn’t happened in the two nights we’ve been here, but they’ve still got two days to go….

Don’t stay here. Seriously. It’s not “quaint” or “dated”. It was probably nice at one point. But no one has cared about making this place anything but 1 step above livable for a very long time.

I would t be surprised if they took bids for contractors to renovate. Looked at the lowest offer, and then found a couple homeless guys and offered them half that to...
