I don’t normally leave bad reviews and I have no problem staying in budget motels. I know for $55 a night I shouldn’t get my expectations too high but the Econo Lodge in Norton didn’t even meet the lowest level of expectations.||When I arrived, I could tell the property was outdated and unkept. The parking lot was faded and filled with weeds. There was no landscaping and the paint on the buildings was peeling. I made a reservation without checking reviews and I won’t make that mistake again - without a reservation, I would have kept driving based on the exterior appearance. ||Check-in was easy enough and the desk staff was nice. I used an exterior door between the two wings of rooms to access my second floor room. None of the exterior entrances were secured and there is no elevator. I noted that there was no airflow at all in the entrance lobby and hallways and it was very uncomfortable. The room had a king bed, some mismatched furniture and a microwave and mini-fridge. The AC worked well once I turned it on. The TV was the smallest I have seen in a motel and the picture was fuzzy. I went to get ice - the vending and ice room on the second floor was closed off so I had to go downstairs. The ice machine worked but half the washers and dryers were out of order. ||Back in the room, I had issues connecting to the WiFi. I could get a weak connection down the hall in the lobby between the two wings but no luck in my room. I went to the front desk and the clerk, a nice younger guy this time, offered to reset it. No luck. The final straw came when I finally went into the bathroom and found a worm-type of bug on the floor. I went back to the desk and told him I was checking out. At that point, I had been there a little over an hour. He was apologetic but said I would need to contact Choice (I booked on the Choice app) to get a refund. I’ve spent an hour on the phone over the past few days - the GM hasn’t been available when they try to contact the hotel on my behalf so we’ll see. ||Also, FYI, the outdoor pool was closed. Other hotels have opened their pools but not here. It looked pretty fun down, just like the rest of the place. They also aren’t offering any breakfast. Again, other places are at least offering some prepackaged options but COVID seems to be more of an excuse than a valid reason for them cutting back on the extras. ||The price was right and it’s a convenient location just off of 58, and the staff were nice, but the hotel definitely ...
Read moreIf you need a place to stay fairly cheap and are prepared to deep clean upon arrival and wash your own bedding the rooms are very spacious. It is 85% company guys on the road and 15% questionable people. I walked in trying to stay positive even after seeing the front of the building literally looked like it had been bombed and was coping until I saw dried blood stains on the sheets and pillowcases, gunk in the kitchen floor and lots of shaved hair in the bathroom sink. I stripped the beds down, went and bought new pillowcases etc., used an entire can of Lysol spraying everything down, cloroxed every single surface and then I felt like I could bring our things inside. If you have a family this is a no go unless you are prepared to sanitize the room and bring your own bedding. The laundry room is filthy with one washer and the dryers didn't work at all. The exterior doors are unlocked at all times, I saw no less than 10 drug deals in the parking lot a day and a woman or women alone? Out of the question. Be prepared to be begged for a cigarette every time you walk out of your room. You can tell they are updating certain things as there is new paint and the carpet isn't the worst I've ever seen but the windows are so grime covered you can barely see outside. The pool was so milky you couldn't see the bottom which means it has not been chlorinated this season one time and is absolutely not sanitary. It feels like someone really gross stayed in the room and then on your way in you passed one another on their way out and nothing was cleaned. I'm going to burn everything I own when I get home and pray for the best. One good thing? Flag Rock is just minutes away and lots of waterfalls, creeks, hiking trails etc are close by. Most men are going to say it's a good place to stay and be fine with it. I...
Read moreFamily run hotel who live in the hotel. Bed was comfy, people nice, rooms clean, and location good.
Pool was very big and nice to have but there were only 2 tables and 4 chairs in the pool area. The pool is T'shaped so you can close doors for an inside pool area incase it rains. But the pool doors need some major lime removal cleaning and the pool a little touch up of repair in places. Pool needs outside floodlights to work! Still swimmable though.
The Breakfast needs lots of work. If you are going to advertise hot breakfast, you need more than just eggs as your hot food. Where was the meat, fruit, and other variety of items? Maybe they didn't want to put out for a baseball team but we paid our bill too!
The air-conditioning must be programmed to not be as cold at night. Even had the temp down to 65-63 degrees and it got humid and hot in the room. During the day was perfect.
Laundry room had 2 washers and 2 dryers. The 3rd dryer was not working. Neither was the change machine and detergent dispenser so bring your own. Regardless, we got our boys uniforms done.
We were excited that we saw a sports bar on the side of the hotel but it was not opened. There is a Hardee's in the lot, a gas station across the street with a great Subway, and a small strip mall across the street with a credit union, ABC store, Little Caesars, food market, seafood restaurant, carwash, and some other store. Downtown Norton is like 2 miles away and a Super Wal-Mart a few miles away in other direction of Norton as well.
All in all not a bad stay. I would stay again. Just need to make some changes like suggested above and maybe repaint and new carpet to freshen up the place. Also beware of the black bear that likes to come visit...
