First, let me just say I never stayed overnight here, what I did required more trust than booking a place for myself because it was booking a place for our dearest friends. My husband and I got married in 2012 and we wanted to have four of our closest friends come stay with us on the North Shore for the wedding, but our place was too small so we checked out every possible accommodation. Finding Kalani Hawaii was like hitting the jackpot! The rates are ridiculously affordable by Hawaii's standards, the photos were gorgeous, and the trip advisor reviews impeccable (compared to other hostels in the area, I think we dodged a bullet there) so we took a chance. Even though it's private lodging and they're very guarded about their location, when we registered our friends as guests and brought them there it was like something out of Fern Gully! (minus all those crazy fairy mullets) But seriously, our friends absolutely fell in love with the place, we almost couldn't get them to leave. The four of them stayed in one of the Bird of Paradise dorms, which was perfect because they rent by the bed and since there were 4 beds and 4 of them, they had added privacy in the room by not having to share with other travelers. My husband and I were able to check out the property when we came to hang out with them and the gardens are awe inspiring, so large and so much room for relaxing. The place is cleaner than anywhere I've ever seen in my life, the kitchen is huge and stocked for an army, and there's really nothing more I can say until you see it for yourself. It's an absolute hidden gem. But I can add this, Maria & Bernie, the owners, are two of the nicest and most accommodating people you'll ever meet. They just want you to relax and have a good time, which I can most definitely say, our friends did. We've got family coming in the upcoming months & I know exactly where...
Read moreActually, my family stayed in the Kalani Hawaii Private Lodging /Pacific Guest House in October 2024, so I’m a bit behind on this review. My daughter planned her destination wedding in Hawaii, I chose Kalani lodging as it was nearby her wedding venue in Waimea Valley. I must say our stay was an amazing and satisfying experience considering some hectic moments we’ve gone through preparing for the day before, and the day of the wedding. Bernie was great, he was attentive, and very patient even if having our bridesmaids, photographer, makeup artists in the property with us but only for couple of hours to dressed up before going to the venue, we weren’t making any disturbance noise or anything like it in respect of others and the rules.
The Pacific Guest House has its own step up entrance and a walkway leading to a lush green garden which was perfect for my daughter’s wedding photo background that we enjoyed very much. Has private porch, also a nice hammock to lay down and relax. Everything in the house and outside was clean and well organized. Short walk across the road to go to the beach, watch surfers and watch the sunset. It’s a peaceful place in north shore and we felt very comfortable and safe as this property has a secured gate. We could have stayed longer but we had to go back to Waikiki to sent off friends and relatives that attended the wedding then we ourselves eventually left the island to go back home.
Although I wasn’t able to meet Maria personally, she was very helpful from the beginning of my inquiry and accommodating my reservation requests, sending me information and instructions via email.
Bernie and Maria thank you for sharing your home and for contributing to the wonderful wedding event experience that my family will remember. Will definitely recommend to...
Read moreI stayed there in 2017. It’s amazing to see how Bernie always respond to the negative comments instead of replying something like: “we appreciate your comment, we will take it into consideration” or “I’m sorry you had a bad experience", he always respond with a tone, upper case, etc. There’s always a justification in his mind. It might exist, but if you are a property manager you should never act like that period.
Lesson (1) When I arrived I called Bernie and he was angry saying “why did you took the bus X if I TOLD YOU to take bus Y? - In this case you should say something like: You took the bus ? Ok no problem, it took longer than the other one but there's no problem.
Lesson (2) Always bossy - You should share your thoughts/ideas in a different way. The customers will listen more carefully and also it will create a connection.
Lesson (3) He show me the house making sure that was always mentioning the rules (e.g: you always put your sleepers here, the lights this and that, and so on). Again, you can do that in a different way!
Lesson (4) Always but always have a arch response for every negative comment.
The location is amazing and the house is really beautiful but please change that mindset! This is not a War Camping, people choose your property to have some fun and enjoy. They don't expect to have a casting for the army. I understand you want to take care of the property but when you exaggerate the customer fell intimidated and will never come back and will leave a bad review… But off course you'll be arch in the below...
