3.5/5 stars Location- great, right on the beach Rooms- renovated (with a few minor blemishes) (preference for the double sinks they used to have) house keeping does a fabulous job Continental breakfast is good (we love the waffles) *Island view (windows open- but had one when unlocking slammed on my husband's fingers, so use caution) When we arrived, check in was easy. Staff member had to catch us while heading to room because our reservation was missing Thursday night. Staff member was super helpful with booking their last room (island view). We would have to move rooms for 1 night and then move back for our last night, but I was not going to stress about it. Staff member suggested going to front desk Thursday morning to discuss the move. Thursday morning comes around- discussed with staff member up front (signed a consent form for them to move my items, since we would be off Island for the day). When we returned I just stopped by the office and got my new key cards. Friday morning, another room change to go back to our original room. When I came into the office, I told the staff member Good morning, I was just here to discuss the room change. She quickly stated "we will call you when a room is ready and then you can move your things". I explained I had done the same thing the day before, and also signed a form for housekeeping to move my items. (Staff member at this time mentioned trying to contact me multiple times about the missing reservation before our arrival date) Staff member stated that housekeeping move is only if off property (I explained we were going to the beach/ ocean) which still staff member was adamant that items were only moved if off property. I explained I would not have my phone on me, and would only be checking it about every hour or so when we reapplied/snacked/rested since we would be in the ocean. She seemed inconvenienced about us enjoying the last day of our vacation (since we were heading out the next day). I walked back to the room. Had a conversation with my husband, I was a little thrown off with the attitude and honestly at that point almost felt like I just wanted to leave (didn't want to disappoint my daughter that way, so we stayed). Husband wasn't too thrilled since it was room change number two and we'd have to come back up (saltwater/sand and all) to move our items. My father-in-law did step in and had some words with the front staff (at the time he went in the original staff member (who was actually the supervisor according to her name tag) and another staff member were present. Again, supervisor was not friendly and blamed me that she had tried to contact me originally about the night missing and stated I had given the wrong number and email.(Basically it was all my fault for rooms changes) (She did mention she didn't give me the option to have house keeping move our items)(Please note I had received emails for my confirmations for reservations- in March(I have come to this location multiple times in previous years) I received one email the day of arrival which I read to the front desk staff that stated " we have a question about your reservation" also please note these reservations were made in March and no contact was made except confirmation emails and the email sent the morning of arrival. The other staff member present was super helpful and my items were moved by housekeeping. (I tipped house keeping in both cases and stayed super cheerful- no attitude on my part(my FiL did have attitude back when he went in to have a conversation about the treatment I received.) Upon initial arrival, the staff member that checked us in was not aware of the missing reservation until after we had stepped out and she went to triple check everything and caught a note in file- it was not communicated with other staff members that there was a problem. The island view night was the same price as the ocean view night I had ($315 total for per night) So 2 room changes, a supervisor with attitude put a damper on the last few days on what was otherwise a...
Read moreCHECK THE BED!!! DO NOT STAY HERE! I Do Not Recommend staying here. Poor SANITATION especially not properly cleaning the linen. Rent a house or go to islander inn instead.
READ: We call ahead around 10 to see if checking in early would be possible (due to the tropical storm) unfortunately not the case. We arrive a little after 3 to see about our room. Get told that they would call when it was ready 4 o'clock rolls around, and no call, so I go back in and the room is still not ready and they didn't have a clue as to when the room would be ready. They call about 5 minutes later stating the room was ready. We get up to our room and check our beds to find a large burn hole in our mattress and it was stuffed with what looked to be like toilet paper. I go to the front and they have the supervisor over the cleaning team come to our room and stating there's nothing they can do but flip the mattress over and that they didn't know it was there. I tell them that if you cleaned the beds and changed all the sheets you would have known it was there. She stated they don't change the mattress cover with is a fabric sheet with a little thick quilted top and that goes on the mattress like a normal sheet. According to section SECTION .1800 - SANITATION OF LODGING PLACES the definition of Linen is(19) "Linen" means fabric items such as bedding, towels, cloth hampers, cloth napkins, table cloths, wiping cloths, and work garments including cloth gloves. 15A NCAC 18A .1828 LAUNDRY AND LINENS (a) Except as specified in paragraph (b) of this Rule, clean bed and bath linen in good repair shall be provided for each guest who is provided accommodations and shall be changed between successive guests. (d) Items on housekeeping carts shall be arranged in a manner to prevent cross-contamination between soiled and cleaned items. Housekeeping carts shall be kept clean and stored to protect items from contamination. (e) Soiled laundry shall be handled and stored separately from clean laundry using separate cleanable carts or bags. Carts used for soiled laundry shall be labeled or identified for soiled laundry use only.
The mattress cover that is fabric by law should have been washed and changed for every guest ontop of the nasty burn hole in the mattress that they were unaware of just...
Read moreGreat cheap beach stay. We didn't get the room we booked and asked to be moved and were told we would be charged more because we booked online on a booking site. We were dissapointed because I couldn't sleep in the room and we needed too extend our stay but didn't want to pay an extra $50 a night to be changed to what we asked for in the first place. We decided to leave and go to days inn and drove to the beach. This worked out way better. I was able to get sleep at the days inn in Shallotte. The rooms were drafty and our room looked like the fire water sprinkler had gone off at some point and we could smell mold. I have asthma and couldn't breathe well in room 230. The beds are so comfortable big fluffy pillows and blankets. We could've really enjoyed our stay. I loved the view from the pool. The hot tub and indoor pool was nice too. It had allot of hair balls in it so I pulled them out. I'm a hairstylist so it didn't gross me out but I think I may of been the 1st or 3rd person in there that morning so I'm unsure how often they clean the pool area. The lady that works nights was very nice. Breakfast was not impressive but a free meal. I asked about the batter being clumpy for the waffles and the lady working there said it would cook out. Then I took a bite and it tasted like batter I had to throw it away. That was the only thing I tried. I normally eat fresh fruits or bacon and eggs in the morning and these options weren't available. But if your gluten free they did have bananas. Over all I'd say this is a great place for a cheaper option to stay right on the beach. Ocean isle is a great community of families. I did notice my husband was the only black person we saw on ocean isle and it didn't seem they were used to black people there. Hopefully in time that will change. No one made him feel unwelcome we could just tell they weren't used to it. Just an observation though. Definitely more predominant of European decent. Nice place wish we could've slept and enjoyed it. I slept in a chair on the patio which was pretty cool. Here's a picture of the...
