Horrific Stay – This Hotel Should Be Kicked Out of the Marriott Bonvoy Network
My recent stay at the Residence Inn Oklahoma City South was an absolute nightmare and a disgrace to the Marriott Bonvoy brand. This property does not meet the standards one would expect from a Marriott-affiliated hotel, and in my opinion, it should be removed from the network entirely. Here’s why:
Location in an Abandoned Mall: This hotel is located in what appears to be an abandoned mall, which sets an eerie and uninviting tone from the start. The surrounding area feels unsafe and neglected. False Advertising for Free Breakfast: The “free breakfast” was a complete joke. Staff purposely refilled items in tiny amounts, creating the illusion that everything had “run out.” It was clear they had no intention of actually providing a proper breakfast for their guests. Extremely Outdated Property: The hotel looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 1990s. From the decor to the overall condition of the facilities, everything screamed neglect and mismanagement. No Basic Amenities: There were no hangers in the room, no paper towels, and no tissue boxes—essentials you’d expect even at a budget motel, let alone a Marriott-branded property. Unpleasant Hallways: The hallways were unbearable, with a wet, musty odor mixed with a strong smell of weed. It felt disgusting to walk through them. Dirty and Sticky Room Conditions: The kitchen floor in the room was sticky and clearly had not been cleaned. The bathtub was filthy and looked like it hadn’t been scrubbed in ages. To make matters worse, there was a broken drawer in the room, adding to the overall feeling of disrepair. Questionable Security: We returned to find the windows in our room had been randomly opened while we were away. This left us feeling unsafe and extremely uncomfortable. Water Issues and Potential Mold Concerns: The running water in this hotel smelled and tasted like mildew, which was deeply concerning. It made me question if there is a larger mold or water quality issue in the property. This alone should be a red flag for anyone considering staying here.
This property is far below Marriott’s standards and tarnishes the reputation of the Bonvoy network. The mismanagement and lack of care are evident in every aspect of this hotel. I strongly urge Marriott to reevaluate its affiliation with this property.
If you’re considering staying here, don’t. I would never recommend this place to anyone, even for a single night. Spend your money elsewhere for a safer, cleaner, and more professional experience. This hotel...
Read moreI have not done a road trip in over 3 years for work and I was so excited to go? I packed and re packed, checked everything twice and I was ready to go? I got up at 2:15 AM go showered as I had a 12 hour drive to Oklahoma City this is with stops for gas, rest breaks and so on. I got there and the drive & sidewalks were not shoveled or ready to greet me at all? I walk in and there is plastic hanging due to construction? the breakfast area does not look inviting and steam table is right under the plastic area and appears to be worn and needing replaced, I am passing through for 1 night and I want a room by a door as I have items I do not want stolen and want to remove from my van? I cant have a 1st floor room? I cant be by a door because there is a broken pipe and repairs in that wing or something? I am placed on 2nd floor? so I wait by the elevator and that takes some time and I get in and the dirt and filth as this has not been vacuumed or edged with a shop vac ever? I step out of the elevator and there is a carpet cleaner with a long cord all coiled up right in the middle of the corridor / hallway so I moved it just to get passed so I could get to my room? I open the door and the temp outside was about 19 degrees and my room felt like it was to and A/C was running? I turned the heat on and up and looked around before going to unload? door trim and casing is loose, falling off? drawers are open here and there on cabinets, tv stand, dressers, night stands and vanity? there is hairs of all sorts in drawers (pubes) yet I did not see these until I went out to start loading to bring my stuff in and the lady who checked in ahead of me was loading her stuff back up and was checking out saying she was leaving to a different hotel as there was bed bugs in her room. now I cant wait to look in my room and check it over??? ya this is just what I need as I am tired just want to unwind, order some food and relax as I am on the road tomorrow morning at 4:30am and now I am forced to be on guard for a tiny bug infiltrating my life? bags? equipment? and anything I bring in there? Hmmmmm lets say I did not rest and feel like I was at home at all? I stacked all my stuff on the tables and placed away from walls so no crawly bugs could possibly not get to them? called my wife and not started looking thoroughly thats when I find all the hairs??? I know this is long and I am affraid to lay down wondering if I will be bit so I go down and ask the lady at the desk...

The hotel was in a location that was miles away from where my conference was being held, but I was not too upset because I have stayed at other Residence Inn's and my stay has always been decent (the best was in San Diego). I travel monthly, so when I am away from home, having the creature comforts is a necessity. When I arrived at the hotel, a gentleman and his wife were at the front desk and complaining about something. I did not hear the beginning of the conversation, but while I waited to be acknowledged, I listened to the conversation they were having with the manager. I arrived at 5:30pm OKC time. The manager would not make eye contact with the people. She asked if they would like to switch rooms. The man did not want to switch rooms, he offered to go show the maintenance man whatever the problem was, she declined, he canceled his reservation. The managers overall attitude was not good. When I arrived to my room and at first glance everything seemed to be in order (including a wine opener-thank goodness). But when I went to look in the bathroom and shower, it was apparent it had not been cleaned as there about 40 long black hairs on the back shower wall. I managed to get passed that, but I left them there out of curiosity of the house keeper would clean them off. During my week long stay, the hairs remained. I had made a small mess of peanut skins since Texas Roadhouse is right next door and was annoyed at myself about it. I also knew I would be tipping the housekeeper for taking care of it, but the mess remained for the remainder of my stay. On day 3, my regular coffee (not decaf) was not replenished which, for someone who gets up at 2-3 am, is not acceptable. When I went down to the front office to get more coffee, the manager from the first night was there. I asked if I could get a couple of coffee replacements, and instead of being apologetic that the coffee had not been refilled (which I explained it had not been replenished), she acted annoyed that I was asking for them as if I overused my "ration". When my bed was made, I'm pretty sure that when my daughter was 5, she could have made it better. The evening mixers are usually pretty nice at other Residence Inn's. This Residence Inn has great wine, but horrible food. The burgers were grey meat, the sausages were horrible (the andouille was good), the bacon is horrible, the eggs are...
