Being here for a conference, I ended up having to stay in one of the investment property / 3-unit residences rented out by the resort that surround the main resort area, so my comments will reflect both the place that I stayed in as well as the conference center and amenities themselves.
First, the place that I stayed in: very nice in a wooded setting. However, it was quite a disappointment.
There was used soap in the soap dish in the bathroom as well as trash cans that still had trash in them. The shower controls were a problem in that once you selected the shower, it was very hard to reset the water to come into the tub.
You also had to request room service, otherwise the room would not be serviced. There were enough towels for a couple of days of use.
The appointments in the room were pretty standard with two double beds and other items common to a hotel room. The furniture was very uncomfortable: there was a small round table and two steel chairs. No padding. No other seats except for the cheap plastic chairs on the deck. The bed and pillows were fine.
The closet door was unable to open fully because it hit one of the beds. The cheap iron for ironing clothes clearly had been dropped a number of times and would not automatically shut off (which is a safety feature), and was cracked in a couple of places. Further it put out zero steam. So you couldn’t iron your clothes properly.
The walkout deck sliding glass doors had no screen which would have been nice to have because the fresh air at night was nice and cool (September) and it would’ve been nice to get fresh air in the room.
The deck you would walk onto has a number of rotten planks and while I didn’t have a concern for falling through, clearly they need to be replaced.
Overall, Except for the soap dish and the trash cans, cleanliness in the room was adequate.
All in all, the accommodations in the room I stayed in were a huge disappointment.
The conference center and main facilities themselves were good. The last time I had stayed here was several years ago before it changed to the “Margaritaville” resort. A lot has changed going from a rustic look to a more painted tropical feel. (Trying to give the place a tropical field while at the lake in the middle of Missouri doesn’t really work in my opinion. But, that’s in the eye of the beholder I suppose.). The conference center and main facility were very clean and the staff was top notch. The A/V system used in the conference for projecting PowerPoint slides and amplifying voices were all very good. Seating was also good.
The two restaurants in the facility were closed on Monday and I didn’t check on Tuesday (the day I’m writing this). However, you can order food at the bar on the main level near the entrance and it was surprisingly good. The bar staff was excellent and they knew what they were doing for sure.
Meals served during the conference were lackluster and more institutional kind of food than anything else. Definitely on the lower end of what I expected.
Breakfast buffet was your standard fair of scrambled eggs (watery), bacon, sausage (under-cooked: not browned) and pastries. Lunch was a so-so chicken dish with rice and green beans preceded by a wilted salad with soggy croutons. An uninspiring cheesecake was provided for dessert. Most were served the cheesecake but some had a Key Lime pie that I was told was very strongly flavored.
A particular positive note was the shuttle service that was used to get you around the facility which is definitely needed because of the distances involved and the hilly land. Very professional drivers Who were very personable and engaged while they drove. Clearly, these folks were proud of their facilities; one having worked here for...
Read moreThe concept of Margaritaville Lake Resort at Lake of the Ozarks is appealing-everything in one place with a lake view-and that is one of the main reasons why we chose Margaritaville over the long 4th of July holiday. However, we were quickly disappointed for the amount of money we spent.
Our room location was perfect. Right on the lake with a perfect view of the firework show. However, the room itself wasn't that great. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by dead bugs on the floor and all over the curtains. Smeared bugs all over the walls along with living spiders and their webs hanging from the ceiling. The outside deck was also covered in spider webs but expected that since it was outside. The toilet was disgusting and didn't look like it had been cleaned in awhile. We also found the previous guests sunglasses that were on the floor.
We chose not to say anything and was going to enjoy our stay regardless. The next day however, we received a text asking us how we would rate our stay so far, from 1-5. I responded with a 3. I received a response back asking for a reason and I gave my reasoning. They were quick to offer a credit and asked if housekeeping could come and address the issues. I responded with yes, and figured I would let them try to make things right, since they offered. I did let them know that we had the "Do not disturb" magnet on the door but gave them permission to enter as we were not there. We came back to our room 4.5 hours later and nothing had been cleaned. We told ourselves that maybe they got busy and proceeded with getting ready to go to the pool. We then received a text stating that housekeeping could not enter our room since the "Do not disturb" magnet was on the door and that they heard a dog barking. The message then proceeded to threatened to charge us an additional fee if the pet remains on property. WE DO NOT OWN A PET! We only had an upstairs neighbor and I didn't hear a dog bark the entire time we were there, their baby screaming constantly, but no dog barking. I went up the front desk and they said that legally they couldn't go into a room with a pet present, and "thought" they heard a dog barking. We were assured that no additional fees would be charged after we had to convince them that we didn't have a pet in the room.
Resort guests are also charged a resort fee. This is typical and I would expect secluded guest only services/amenities for this fee. NOPE! All of the outside pools are opened to the public. So paying guests have to overpay for disgusting, outdated rooms and a resort fee so others can use the resort for FREE. I was told that only guests could use the indoor pool which is away from the music, food and drinks and not outside to be able to enjoy the summer weather. The pools were crowded, especially since it was over a holiday. Our room keys were bracelets so we could tell who was a guest and who wasn't. The pools and chairs were over taken by others who were there for FREE and not resort guests.
We purchased breakfast with our rooms. The first morning we ate at JB's Boathouse and the food was good and the service was GREAT. We at at Landshark twice, and both times the food and service was GREAT! The last morning we chose to use our breakfast voucher at the coffee shop. The breakfast sandwiches were cold and tasted like plastic. The employee/cashier complained the entire time about having to be there and got upset when I accidentally pressed the wrong button and she couldn't use the remaining balance of our voucher for a tip.
Needless to say, if you're wanting to get away to relax and get what you pay for, Margaritaville Lake Resort Lake of the Ozarks is NOT the...
Read moreWe just returned home from a week at this resort and we will not return. The experience at this hotel was less than stellar from start to finish -- we ended up cutting our trip short due to the poor conditions. I was shocked that the Margaritaville brand is attached to this property -- the lobby is redone and decorated beautifully but once you leave and enter the various room buildings, it resembles a shabby motel.
We have been so excited for our family summer vacation. Right when we pulled in we were flagged down and yelled at by your parking attendant, screaming at us to get close to the curb and hurry up. The front desk gal that checked us in was very sweet. Our room wasn’t ready so we waited in the lobby and checked out the arcade.
When our room was ready a guy at guest services told us “oh that building really sucks — it’s hard to get to and doesn’t have an elevator so we’ll have to help you.”
That was not going to work for us for 6 days, so we got back in line at the front desk to request a building with an elevator. At the same time my parents arrived and learned there was no boat ramp — well, our family brought a boat. He was told he had to drive 30-35 mins out to a park to launch it and 30-35 mins back but to hurry they close at 6pm.
The reason we picked this resort is because of the boat ramp, boat slip, and everything all being centrally located. Why did no one call your guests with boat slips and warn them the ramp was closed? The entire arrival experience left much to be desired. A manager helped my Dad and upgraded them to a suite — however it put them on the opposite end of the property from us. We have been trekking back and forth since we arrived.
Our room smelled like must and mold when we arrived. It was dusty and had dead bugs all over the door. There were dark brown stains all over the drapes that looked like coffee or blood. I have several pictures to share. Come to find the AC is leaking all over the floor — seeping all the way under the couch in the sitting area. The entire unit looks like it’s falling apart. The other balconies up stairs are also dripping water down below us and rust stains all over the balcony.
There were mattresses leaned up in the hallways by the elevator, trash stacked by all the parking garage entrance doors. There was urine and dead birds in the parking garage. The entire hallway smells like burning rubber. The air vents are moldy. My parents suite has mold all over the ceiling. The property does not look like it has been tended to — everything looks very worn down.
The water by the Flagship units and the boat ramp is filthy and covered in trash. I have several pictures of that because I couldn’t believe it. I am shocked the Margaritaville brand attaches itself to these conditions.
The main pool was freezing cold and very cloudy -- I overheard several guests talking about the dirty water. It did not appear clean.
Overall we are just so terribly disappointed in the value met here compared with the price. We can’t get this time back. Moving to another sub standard room unfortunately wouldn't make this better, so we packed up and...
