Spent 6 nights at the Margaritaville Lake of the Ozarks. Many issues! There were 3 adults and 2 children that shared a double, king bed, lake view room. The room was spacious, however our stay left much to be desired. The resort, at least the building we stayed in, was a little run down. See pictures of our room. Public areas were OK, but a couple of the meeting rooms we used were shabby and not clean. Ceiling tiles were damaged, missing, or dirty. Vents were absolutely filthy. Be cautious of things on the website and what is reality at the resort. Website indicated WiFi was an extra charge. When we arrived, we were told it was free. Nice! Website indicated that housekeeping would come every other day. When we checked in, we were told it was every third day. Actual reality was that housekeeping never came during our stay. They did show up about an hour before checkout time the day we left. We had to ask for towels every single day, dirty towels were never collected even when clean towels delivered. We ended up putting our trash out in the hallway and buying our own trash bags. If little to no housekeeping is going to be provided than each room should have a vacuum, broom, and mop! The lack of housekeeping and having to request basic necessities every single day was ridiculous. The king beds were way past their prime. The edges were completely broken down which made sitting on the bed or sleeping difficult. Linens were OK. Worn, but mostly clean. Duvet cover on one bed was stained. Lots of pillows with varying firmness. Pillows were good. Temperature in the room never got below 74 degrees, no matter the temperature setting. At night the temperature got to 78 degrees every single night. We paid extra for a lake view room and while we did have a view of the water it was not a scenic nice view. The view was of marinas and other buildings with a little water in the middle. Definitely not worth the extra cost for a ‘view’. We did have a balcony. It was very small, but was an outside area. Electrical outlets are limited. Cleanliness was an issue in our room. Things like woodwork and vents not clean. On our first use of the shower hair came up out the drain. Our floor was a vinyl wood look plank and was nice. The resort is built on the hills and so there were many multiple levels. Chauffeured golf carts were available for traveling to and from the pools and restaurants. Only a few times did we have to wait for more than a few minutes for a ride. There are 3 pools, but they are each very small. During peak times there are no chairs or tables open as they are very crowded. The restaurants were OK, nothing great, and were over priced for the delivered product. For being called Margaritaville the margaritas were awful! Definitely do not recommend them. Accessibility in this entire complex is very poor. Although any place we wanted to go was accessible in one way, shape or fashion, it was often convoluted and difficult. We found that where the drop off for the Tiki bar and pool was located was not ADA compliant with inclines and ramps. However, drop off at other locations in the area were more accessible although further away. Our building was the same way. To reach certain areas of the building required going down to the main level, routing to a different elevator, and then to where you want to go. Several areas required going outside and around to be accessible as there was no way to get there inside the buildings. The golf carts were great to get around, but again not so much if you needed to use mobility devices as they weren’t accommodating to transport devices. The public areas were mostly kept clean, although shabby in areas. Parking was available inside the building; however, it was often full. Handicap parking was available, but often non-handicap vehicles parked there and there seemed to be no enforcement of that. For a couple of days someone had parked in the blue striped area of handicap parking which made the actual handicap space unavailable. Elevators were working but often very, very slow. The people employed there were very nice and there was a sense of service excellence in most of the staff. Only once was an employee unprofessional and rude, otherwise the employees were great (with the exception of having to request any type of housekeeping and then getting very little). Overall, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again. It is overpriced for what is offered and the condition it is in. Also, for anyone with any kind of mobility issue it is a very difficult place...
Read moreWe booked a king room for a marriage retreat with our church. The weather had forecasted snow and ice. Snow and ice came and it was difficult to walk around the property because many places weren't salted. Our group block was all king bed rooms. The hotel did NOT notify us that they were downgrading us to a full size bed before having us drive half a mile down the icy road & sidewalks (my husband fell twice). Mind you there are no signs about how to even get down to the room and NO lights. So we're trying to figure out how to walk around and get to what we hope is the right cabin dowhill on the icy dark. By this point we were stuck due to ice in a room with an uncomfortable bed, far away from everyone in our group, and also on a side of the resort that has no food. So I called as soon as we walked in to the small beds to ask for at least a partial refund because we were pretty disappointed since this is not what we booked. Now getting breakfast in the morning is going to be a struggle with the ice (we literally had to crawl in some places, the downhill sidewalks & stairs were so bad and not salted at all to get down to our room). Now this is our 2nd time at the resort and it's definitely an ok place. Rooms are outdated, cigarette butt hole on the couch, etc. The food on the resort is hit or miss and pricey. The check in building (A) is beautiful and the rooms in there do seem more updated. Anywho, when I called to complain, the lady who answered the phone sounded apologetic and said absolutely they would be able to help and transferred me to someone who could help. The lady who then answered did not sound like she cared. She told me twice that the room was an upgrade (bc they moved us to a suite that we didn't ask for and didn't want) even though I told her the bed was what we wanted (it's a marriage retreat for Valentine's day...). I was very discouraged after getting off the phone and feel like they don't value my business. She gave me a 20% discount because I asked for at LEAST a partial refund and I told her that wasn't satisfactory but she refused to do more. (I work in hospitality and also have only experienced 50-100% off a room when they give you a smaller bed). We had to scrape ice off our car three times within 12 hours just to get to our room and get to breakfast. This would not have been an issue if they gave us the room we paid for. In the morning at checkout I told the front desk manager calmly and kindly that I was very disappointed and wanted a full refund and without even asking why she said very rudely "well I can't do that" and she turned her back and walked away. End of conversation. I never want to come back after being treated this way not once but twice. I feel like there's no guarantee at all what kind of room you'll get when you come here and that makes me not want to come back. I literally just sat in the lobby and cried after being treated like this. I don't understand how you can treat your customer like dirt just from them saying they weren't satisfied. And by the way nobody said "hey we accidentally overbooked king rooms we're so sorry" or "with the ice storm things didn't go as planned, we're so sorry". There was no explanation, no apology, no try to fix the problem. Last time also when we were put in a room more outdated and farther away from our group block then as well. Also, one other downside to this property is that it's hard to find anything and you have to walk a lot. Their employees struggled to give us directions to the evening buffet and we had to wind down several hallways, through a couple buildings, up an elevator, up stairs, etc and...
Read moreMy family and I took an adventure to Tan-Tar-A resort for spring break. We purchased the water park package and we were truly excited about our stay and all the amenities the resort had to offer. I had called a few days before to confirm my reservation and to ensure that my room has no connecting doors. Check in was seemingly painless, however getting to the room was another story. The resort was a bit confusing. I was provided a map that was helpful, however once in the building it took us about 15 minutes to locate our room and to shuffle through all of the mess due to the resort being rehabbed. After treking to the opposite end of the building with all of our luggage in tow, I was rather disappointed when I saw a connecting door in my room. We took the long trek from building C back to the main lobby and where were offered a room in building D. The first thing we noticed were the beds were noticeably much smaller and would not accommodate my husband and two teenage boys. Again we traveled to the front lobby for our now third room. The final room we were placed in was room 189. I believe this was in building B. This building was not cluttered with furniture and fixtures, I assume because it was attached to the main building. It was however a nice walk from the front desk. The room was fairly easy to located however, the room had no room number located on it. The room was a corner room and at the very end of the hallway on the first floor. The room looked very nice at first glance. Once we got a little settled in we noticed a large amount of spider webs in the corners of the room. Knowing there was no other options for a room change...and to tired and exhausted to complain...my husband cleared the rooms of the spider webs and spiders. After a little rest we went out to explore the resort. Again there was a TON of construction occurring in the resort! I wish we would have been notified of this before booking. Everything was so far away, and the restaurants were operating from a banquet room. The ambiance and food was not enticing, so we were forced to leave the resort. After dinner we headed back to the room for showers. While taking the first shower the tub began to fill, because the tub was stopped up. We finished our showers and called for maintenance the following morning. In the early hours of the morning, my husband was awaken by a tugging noise coming from the patio doors. He froze for a moment as he could not believe what he was hearing, but as the tugging got stronger he decided to get up. When he turned on the room light the tugging stopped. He decided to not share this with me until we left, because he didn't want to ruin our vacation. Instead he opted to not sleep in hopes of allowing my boys and I the opportunity to find some enjoyment in our trip. This could have been a great trip! The resort has a lot to offer, but there were several missed opportunities and just the thought of someone trying to enter our room, leaves me feeling...
