I am not likely to stay here again mainly because of the reception my wife and I received, the condition of the bed we slept in, and the overall condition of the hotel. I try not to judge a restaurant based on one visit and I should try not to judge this hotel based on one visit, but I will.
We visited off-season and the rates were terrific. I knew we were going to check-in late and leave early so we just needed a bed and I did not want to overpay. If that's what you're going for, then this place will be fine; It was not expensive and our room was serviceable.
That being said, when I stay at a Choice Hotel I get a very friendly greeting, a little Choice Privileges swag or at least a, "thank you for being a choice member," but not here--very flat greeting. The person who checked us in was blasé/disaffected, took my info, and handed me the keys.
The overall appearance of the hotel was not breathtaking. As I pulled into the parking lot I asked myself, "what would I do to renovate this place?"
We had a street level room in the classic motel tradition. It had a smell that wasn't exactly musty. I kept the door open for a few minutes and we didn't notice it any longer. Maybe it was the carpet or something. The room itself appeared passably clean. Route 16 traffic was loud and constant. Use earplugs if you're a light sleeper. The heat worked well. The bed was pretty stiff and the topper was thin, so I had an overall uncomfortable sleep. I've stayed at other Econo-Lodges knowing they weren't high end hotels, and I've accepted the sacrifice of quality for cost. But this one did not make the grade when it comes to the Choice Hotels brand.
So my overall impression was that this hotel needed some updating and improved customer service. To update they could take the rugs out, redo the room, and put in a new mattress or at least put in a new mattress topper. To improve customer service they could try to create a good first impression, realize that people have a choice as to where they can spend their money, honor customers who have maintained brand loyalty and maybe stay in one of the rooms and see what it is like from the customer's perspective. Is the bed comfortable? Is the room clean? Is it quiet?
People have choices, I'm very unlikely to choose this...
Read moreWe were on the road travelling when the GM, Mitch, called to inform us that there was an issue with overbookong. We explained we were already driving in the mountains and hours from home. He assured us that he'd figure it out. When we arrived around 4pm - sure enough he had and we checked in. Mitch and Marla were very accomodating even moving us to the first floor since I was traveling with my mom whose disabled. ||The rooms are perfectly fine for a little lodge in NH - just what you'd expect. While a little older they are clean, smell fresh, provide all the comforts of home such as flat screens, WiFi, and a comfy bed. Our room even had a mini-fridge and microwave. The outside is very plain and more run down, but most things are in that type of landscape. The rooms were definitely up to choice standards which is why I always choose to stay with them honestly.||Some mentioned in there reviews that there isn't much around - duh! It's a small town in the mountains not North Conway. Everything you need is within a couple miles; some fast food places, plenty of convenience stores, dollar general, gas stations, and a few restaurants. We highly recommend Jakes Seafood and Grille as well as the Wooden Spoon for breakfast! Also down 16 is the Ossipee overlook (see some pictures below) - check it out! Beautiful and not overly crowded!||One last note, the gentleman at check out was a gem; checking on our stay, offering us a breakfast sandwich for the road (assuming they handle those things due to covid), and letting us know it was their pleasure to have us as guests and to visit again soon. I love simple hospitality!||My brother and his family have a camp in the area - I promise we'll be back! Thank you to Mitch, Marla, and the staff!||P.S. If your concerned about covid measures - this lodge is on top of it. Masks are required for common areas, hand sanitizer available for guests, plexi glass...
Read moreNOT Impressed at all. From the moment I checked in things were sketchy.
I used a credit card to pay and used the chip. The screen said accepted please remove card so I did. The guy behind the desk made a confused look as if it didn't go through and asked me for my card. I handed it to him and he swiped it again on his side. My instant reaction was asking him if I was going to get double charged. He said no.
On our way to the room we ran into other guests checking in who literally mentioned that this place was known for double charging. I immediately checked my bank account and I had 3 charges (2 room charges and 1 hold for $1) My husband went to ask the front desk about this and the guy at the desk was rude and asked him if he knew what a hold meant. Of course we know what a hold is, that's the $1 but then there was 2 room charges. Anyways, he told us it would be off the statement the next day . Moving onto the room.
Our room was a non-smoking room and Oh My God is smelled so darn bad. If I wasn't in a rush to head to a wedding I would not have stayed. We then lifted the mattress to look for bed bugs and found a condom under the mattress. Ugh. I know this place is a 2 star hotel. I didn't expect anything fancy, but for almost 200 a night I still expect clean and comfortable accommodations.
Stay away from this place, I know I'll...
