It would seem we might have hit Hobbs on a bad night—but it wasn’t exactly the experience we had hoped for. We knew right up front that something was off when we arrived at 5:10 (10 minutes after opening) and were told it would be a 10 minute wait to allow the waitress to “catch up” despite the many open tables. Our first contact with the waitress was when she came by to deliver water (we had been sitting for awhile already) and tried to her immediately. We literally had to detain her to order drinks and apps. She talked us out of ordering clam chowder as it would “come out at a different time than the poutine” she said—which we had ordered while she was still standing there. It was odd. Not sure if the waitress was pinch hitting (that was our guess) or just new but her behavior was odd and erratic. When the flight of beer was incorrect (which we self remedied by going to the bar as the waitress was no where to be found) the waitress threw the bartender under the bus, stating she didn’t put it in wrong, they poured it wrong. Ordering dinner was interesting—we weren’t asked which salad size we wanted, how we wanted a burger or our salmon cooked. Shame on us for not speaking up about it—but she did ask about how our son wanted his kids steak tips cooked. After our food arrived the waitress swung by once and asked about how throngs were but didn’t really seem interested in our answer…then she literally backed away from the table while staring at us. It was rather awkward and uncomfortable. My dad asked for more tarter sauce for his fish and it wasn’t until the rest of us were done that the waitress remembered to bring it. Prior to leaving I overhead the waitress telling the people behind us she couldn’t serve them water as they had no ice….huh? Then eventually she did but told the patrons not to put their lips on the glasses but to use straws but didn’t say why. As for the food—it was underwhelming and mostly overcooked. The poutine was a heaping pile of fries with a scant few fries cheese curds and the gravy was really really salty. The quinoa salad was bland with little flavor and the piece of salmon on top was fishy smelling and over cooked to where it was nearly inedible. We didn’t attempt to send it back as the wait time for the food had already been painfully long. Our daughter’s burger was over cooked and served on a burnt bun. The chicken on the other salad was dry and over cooked. Our son’s kid’s steak tips were the only shining star. The wait for the check was painfully long—but ironically no issue with quickly running the credit card. All said and done from the time we walked in at 5:10 to walking out it was close to 2 hours. I hope for the sake of the establishment that this was just a bad night for them—we won’t be testing the theory on that any time soon however. For the parents who read this: bathrooms are clean, there are high chairs and booster seats, the general restaurant is a bit noisy so your kids will likely blend in pretty well. There is kids menu with...

I've been drinking Hobbs beer for years now, but had never made it to the brewery somehow. At the time of writing this I'm down to just three more breweries in New Hampshire before I have hit them all. Hobb's has multiple spots in Ossipee with a seasonal taproom about 15min away from the tavern & brewery which I'm hoping to get to by the end of the season. In the tavern they had sixteen different beers on draft with a good amount of varying styles including some lagers, pilsners, a sour, IPA's, a porter & a scotch ale. Recently I have been a big fan of their rotating hop series PULP RIOT & have had a couple of them in the wild along with the excellent SUGAR MOON Scotch Ale series. 🍻🔥☘☘
I started off with a couple 4oz tasters. The first being the SALINITY NOW! MARGARITA Sour Gose which was really good & had the perfect mix of salt & lime flavor. I then got a 4oz of the HOBBS LITE Lager, a above average American light Lager. I then scooped a pint of the GOLDEN LAGER Helles that was excellent, refreshing & crisp. For my last beer I had a pint of the FELLOWSHIP New Zealand Pilsner which was delicious with a citrusy taste in the finish. 🍻🔥☘💪🏆
I grabbed the Classic Burger for my meal with lettuce, tomato, onion & cheese. It was cooked perfectly at my preferred medium rare & with the fries was almost hard to finish. Sometimes it's nice to just get a good old regular cheese burger without any wild gimmicks. There is all your usual seating options here including tables, hightops & bar. The place was stacked with people so I didn't get as many pics as I would have liked, but the dining room is really large & surrounds the bar area. There is a full bar here as well & our bartender who's name I unfortunately forgot, was super cool, accommodating & knew her beer. Great spot for sure that I'll definitely be returning to for more food & drink in the near future. Cheers! 🍻🍻🔥☘🏆✌♥️🍺

Read moreI am a local in the area, who has given Hobbs multiple chances. I also have worked / run operations in the restaurant industry. Let me start off by saying that nothing about this place is quick, you are their for at least a hour + even if your their for an appetizer & cocktail . My first few experiences were nothing to rave about; mediocre - poor customer service and okay food that was extremely overpriced. My last visit was my FINAL straw. My husband and I went in to get LUNCH & what a mistake it was. We were seated immediately, however no one came to even offer a drink of water for over 15 mins. As soon as a server came we ordered our drinks to be proactive as the tone was already set. It took another 15 mins for our drinks and water to make it to our table. My cocktail (a margarita) was made incorrectly x2. We placed our food order and we were optimistically hoping for our experience to turn around. The food took over 30 mins keep in mind I ordered a salad if that's what you want to call it. It was more like a half a head of lettuce three pieces of cucumber, two tomatoes, a z of dressing and two pieces of chicken. This salad was over $17 !!!!!!!!! My husband got the lunch steak tips and fires. He was given three of the smallest, most burnt tips I have ever seen and about 15 french fries. In the end, two lunch dishes and two cocktails came to over $100.00; truly sickening. I was so upset by this that I complained and did not even get a response. The lack of management/ownership is despicable. Any time I went you saw no management table touching or even the servers. The owner clearly has set the tone NOT TO CARE; monkey see monkey do. I have never gone back and never will. I would suggest a local sub shop over this place, or if you looking for a fancy more upscale dinner the Wakefield Inn is truly amazing. You'll pay the same price and you will get a meal you'll never forget with amazing...
