I have not stayed at a Wyndham property in over a decade because it had gotten to where they were also run down and managed by people I could not understand their speech. As a Solo Traveler with my dog as a companion, I was hugely impressed and pleasantly surprised by this La Quinta. I did not realize they were now part of Wyndham since 2018. But the staff, the room, everything was on par with an IHG Hotel except they have a much better pet policy! Their pet fee is a simple 25.00. The few IHG facilities that allow pets charge totally crazy random amounts that can be as much, or more than, the cost of the hotel room! It has peeved me for some time as a single traveler who's already paying for a room for two people so then be charged an exorbitant amount for my dog to stay in the room with me! I have said for the last five years The Simple Solution to this because there are so many more single older Travelers who want to take a companion pet, would be for a hotel chain to decide that they were going to charge a deposit for your pet, and refund it if there is no damage on your departure. This would really help elderly people who are on a fixed income but want to travel with their pet. For example I would have no problem with a $500 pet deposit because I know my dog isn't going to tear up anything. He's very tame and well-trained. That beats the heck out of non-refundable pet fees any day. The person who decides to open the next chain of simple basic hotels with no frills just clean basic comfortable rooms and something as simple as a pet deposit rather than a fee, will be the one that gets all of my business and all of my friends who are traveling solo with pets as well because I will spread the word VMI website and...
Read morePros and cons of this hotel and unfortunately the cons just outweighed the pros here. Pros: decent location, typical breakfast options (waffles, hot bar, cereal, bagels, etc), newly renovated and nice common space to play pool or games, very friendly staff (some of the best I have encountered). Cons: Smell - I don't know what this hotel is hiding but when you get off the elevator, you are SMACKED in the face with this overpowering perfume airfreshener that clings to the back of your throat. This crap gave me a headache and affected my asthma each time we went to or from our room. Thankfully, the smell did not enter the room itself. Noise - I understand it's a hotel and you are going to hear some noise out in the hallway. But in this hotel, you are going to hear their entire conversation. There is ZERO soundproofing. In addition, while they may have renovated this hotel in the last 8 years, they did NOT update the air conditioning units. That stupid POS kept us up ALL NIGHT clanking and squealing. It sounded like a jet engine whenever the cool cycle stopped and then made a loud bang whenever it turned back on. I would have turned it off except the room was stuffy without it. We had it cranked to 65 but the room never got below 70. Bed/pillows - I have stayed in loads of hotels. And this is the most uncomfortable slab of a mattress I have ever slept on. The pillows were tiny and had very little support. The mattress itself hard as sleeping on a carpeted floor. I will sleep in my car before trying this...
Read moreThis is not the La Quinta of your childhood! Fantastic new hotel in Oxford, MS close to Ole Miss and Rown Oak, home of author William Faulkner. The lobby is bright and open with floor to ceiling windows which flood the entrance with sunlight. We booked for 1 night, but our plans changed after we checked out. We needed to stay in the area another night so we called them and booked another night. That tells you how much we enjoyed our initial stay. The rooms were identical. We had a king bed that might be one of the most comfortable beds we’ve ever slept in at any hotel. Lots of pillows, a nice armchair with a small side table and hanging light above the chair, a desk area with a roller chair and large television. Both sides of the bed have small side tables and wall mounted lights. The room was decorated in blues with orange accents. We really liked that the floors were LVT (luxury vinyl tile) with a removable rug under the bed. The bathrooms are large with ceramic tile floors and a very large handicap accessible walk-in shower. The towels are soft and fluffy. We also liked that there are security cameras in the hallways outside the elevators on each floor. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again. Pet friendly too! Full breakfast for...
