We've just spent three days at the Cape Kiwanda RV Park in Pacific City, Oregon. The location is beautiful with the beach just across the highway and wonderful shops and food nearby. Our little Boston Terrier couldn't have been happier with so much to see and explore. Our experience at the park, however, was not what we expected, considering the cost.
When we arrived at our space, we could not see the utility pedestal. My husband got out to try to find the pedestal and the neighbors, who were seated in chairs right next to their RV, kindly got up to reveal that the pedestal for our space was smack dab in the middle of their very narrow "yard." They kindly moved their chairs and explained that they had faced the same situation with their neighbors at the adjoining space when they arrived. The RV spaces on our row were very narrow, and having the pedestals in the middle of the "yards" rather than to the side (as we've found in every camp we've ever stayed in) splits the spaces in a most awkward manner. To make it worse, the electrical outlets are positioned so close to the ground, we were unable to use our power monitor/surge protector and had to just plug straight into the camp electricity with no protection. The neighbors expressed the same frustration, so it wasn't just our hookup.
Another oddity was a deep round hole in the middle of our "yard" that had been filled with sand - bizarre! We didn't see this at any other site and have no idea what that was all about. There were sites in different rows that seemed to be set up better than ours, so it may be that it was just a bad draw for us.
I was also disappointed to discover that the spa I was looking forward to soaking in was out of order during our visit.
But on the bright side, the location is beautiful and the wifi was terrific. We enjoyed seeing so many families BBQing and enjoying the nice, cool weather. The Oregon coast is a beautiful place to be in the summer and Cape Kiwanda is...
Read moreI love the location but I’m not sure if the Cabin we stayed in hadn’t been used in a while (cabin N) but it was infested in spiders. And when I say infested I’m not exaggerating. I got there before my boyfriend and immediately texted him to get spider/bug spray. I was seeing so many large spiders when I walked in along with spider egg sacks in various corners. And not just a few. I totally understand a cabin having a few here and there but this was disgusting. There were a lot of them. Behind the fridge was just an infestation of cobwebs and spiders and egg sacks. My boyfriend sprayed everything he could and killed as much as he could to make me comfortable but throughout our two night stay they would still crawl out of wherever. By the second night I was so creeped out (I hate spiders) that I ended up sleeping in my car which I was extremely disappointed in because I wanted to spend all the time I could with my partner on this trip but that night we came in from having a bonfire there was a massive spider on the wall the size of my palm. And that was just the last straw. It was insane to me to pay almost 200 bucks a night to stay in a place that made me that uncomfortable. They need to do better cleaning and pest control. I looked everywhere being as paranoid as I was about them. There were spiders under the bunk, under the table, under the window table, behind the fridge, the microwave, behind the tv, a couple we found on the ceiling, and also the corners where the ceiling meets the walls. I wish I was joking. It was disgusting. And all of this had been there for a while, you could tell it hadn’t been cleaned out for some time, especially with all the spider egg sacks all over the place. Thank God for my boyfriend making the best of it and making sure I was feeling okay and being there for me. If not for him, it would have definitely...
Read moreThe visit was TERRIBLE!!! I made the reservation months in advance. I reserved 5 cabins. When doing so I specifically asked for them to all be together because it was a family/friends get together. They assured me they would all be together. When we arrived they said again yes all your cabins are together. We were spread out all over the place. The staff was rude with us and snapping at each other about paperwork instead of focusing on getting us checked in. The "bed" was nothing more than a VERY tired futon. My back is still aching from that "mattress". I am more comfortable after a tent camping trip with my bed roll on the ground. The bathroom had a cleaning checklist that was signed by the cleaning crew every few hours but yet somehow one of the two toilets stayed clogged and overflowing with feces for a day and a half during our 3 day weekend. The water main was broken and took several hours to fix. Of course things like this are out of anyone's control but it just added to a level of discomfort during our stay. The playground area was littered with trash. I have already stated it but I just want to point out again for emphasis that the staff was just dismissive and rude at every turn. Except for a maintenance man that was in the golf cart. He was polite when we asked about the lack of running water for showers, bathrooms and the like. I STRONGLY recommend that if you are reading this review that you rethink your choice of staying here. The last time we did an Oregon beach trip. We rented a huge beach house that was ON the beach not a 5 - 10 minute walk to the beach for less money than the cabins cost us for the weekend. I definitely will NOT be back to this location EVER again. Stay here at...
