Travel Nurse with Family review:
We intended to stay for 5 months, but only stayed 1. My husband was working at a hospital in Morristown.
Smart TV is a STREAMING TV. You must used your phone to CAST on the TV. It is not where you login on the TV and watch. Major hassle - we purchased a ROKU instead.
Pros: large room, king bed, large closet with above rack and side shelves. Breakfast had a fair selection. Bathroom was large also. While we were staying there, the entire facility had the carpets & furniture shampooed which was nice. Front desk staff, housekeeping & maintenance gentlemen were all very kind.
Housekeeping cleans daily -- as a mother to a crawling baby and a 6 year old, this was great to have the carpets vacuumed daily. We opted for just fresh bath linens daily and did full service clean once a week.
Cons: The general manager, of the entire hotel, the one who is supposed to be the leader of the "smoke free hotel" smokes right outside the main entrance, under the pavilion. She has no regard for the guest that are loading/unloading under the pavilion. She has her ear buds in and is on her phone most of the time and rarely acknowledged us. Vinny, the Assistant GM seems to run the hotel more than the actual GM.
This hotel is very accommodating to Wedding Parties and Corporate events. With that, guest are allowed to have an 'after-party' in the hotel after the reception. This was told to us at breakfast by a newlywed that the hotel offers this in their package. If you are looking for a corporate type place, this is the hotel for you. If you are looking for a family environment, do not book here - read on to see my recommendation.
The minute literally the clock strikes and breakfast is over, the ladies turn the lights off in the breakfast area. Even if people are still fixing their plates, eating, etc. Hours later, the lights remain off in the COMMON AREA. It doesn't get any less inviting than this.
The outdoor space has beverage cups lingering from the happy hour the night before most times. The gas grill can be used (must be scheduled), which is nice, but the condition of the grill shows its age and needs to be upgraded. We decided not to use it because of this. There is no fire pit.
The washer and dryer situation is crazy for an extended stay hotel. I was told nearly 60% of the hotel was extended stay and if I recall correctly, they had either 140 or 160 beds. They have ONE laundry room with 3 washers ( 2 top load and 1 front load) and 6 dryers. One washer is broken - so that # drops to 2. I was told you had to cycle the dryer 2x to have them dry completely, at $3.00/cycle, that $2.75 for a wash & $6.00 for a dry. $8.75 for ONE load of laundry-- that's insane to me. I chose to buy a drying rack instead on amazon. There is no option to add additional quarters for more drying time.
Of the 140 or 160 rooms, there is ONE elevator that is a slow as molasses. Just take my advice and take the stairs if you can.
Where to Stay: If you are a single person that stays in your room and desires affordable rates with minimal social interaction, stay at the Sonesta on Candlewood drive in Morris Plains.
If you prefer a more social environment, impeccable hospitality, a staff that genuinely cares for you and your family, stay at the Sonesta ES Suites in Parsippany-Troy Hills (3 Gatehall Drive). They have a welcoming lobby with MANY places to sit, it's inviting and they keep the lights on after breakfast. We will have stayed here for 6 months by the time we leave and I could not be more thankful for them and this place.
After all of this, I would NOT recommend anyone stay at The Hyatt House in...

My cousin got married this weekend and her wedding block was registered at this hotel.
The nightmare started when we checked in – Mark, one of the receptionists, told her (THE BRIDE) that she could not have a late check out. My cousin remained calm and stated she had an email from Robert, Director of Sales, stating that she could as the groom and groomsmen would be getting ready in her room the next morning. He again stated no, she could not. She pulled out the email and showed him to which he replied, that’s fine...Obviously irritated he couldn't ruin her day.
We then find out that the gathering room they promised us for that evening was given away. The wedding party and close relatives were going to set up Saturday night, before the wedding, and hang out together. We had to do that in the lobby surrounded by other guests.
The nightmare continued…..The bride and us bridesmaids were promised Gathering Room 6 and room 335 which attached for the next morning so we could all get ready. The hotel was supposed to set up the room and we would have access to a bathroom via the hotel room. Guess what? They GAVE ROOM 335 AWAY AS WELL.
My cousin, THE BRIDE, stood at the reception desk for 2.5 hours while Mark kept repeating “there’s nothing we can do.” Mark picked up the phone to call Robert, who had promised us all of these things and hung up. I asked him to call Robert back so I could speak with him to which he replied, “the best way to get in contact with him is by email.” Finally, Robert replied, and we managed to work out two hotel rooms attached to each other. Mitchell, the other receptionist was more professional and well-mannered then his counterpart Mark, so we finalized the less than desirable solution with him.
The next morning, as all the girls are getting ready, one of the bridesmaids goes down to get ice only to GET TOLD NO by none other than Mark. She walked over to the kitchen where the kitchen staff happily gave her a tray of ice.
We thought the nightmare was over until Monday morning when were all checking out. I walk downstairs to find my cousin at the reception desk talking to a new person. He tells her he cannot promise her room would be comped as Robert had promised us the day before. OH and they DID NOT GIVE OUT THE WEDDING FAVORS to the guests.
My suggestion to the staff at this hotel – LEARN HOW TO COMMUNICATE. Do not put people like Mark, who does not possess a single customer service skill, at the reception desk to deal with guests. GET A MANAGER INVOLVED when things start to fall apart.
I also reached out the the GM, Cheryl, and have yet to hear from her either....
Read moreI am currently staying at this hotel with my husband. We checked in on August 1 and I had surgery at the nearby Morristown Medical Center. This almost 3-week reservation was made months in advance and I corresponded with the hotel about the reasons for our stay. I requested an early check-in and a room with a shower seat.
We were allowed to check-in early for a $45 fee. There was no shower chair, and the microwave oven didn’t heat. It did make the microwave noise. The white cabinets are permanently discolored in our room, as is the carpet, with something that looks like maybe red permanent marker.
The broken microwave was quickly replaced and when we asked for a toaster (listed in the room amenities) we were provided with one.
The dishwasher does not work very well, with even a shallow glass, cutlery or lightly stained plate still slightly dirty after a full cycle.
I thought things were going to go well after talking to the very kind manager, Vince, about arranging to have the same person clean the room during the second week of our stay, at roughly the same time. Due to my condition, I could only leave the room for fairly short periods, and we also wanted to express our appreciation to an individual housekeeper at the end of our stay.
Unfortunately, this did not work out at all. My husband informed the front desk that he was going to pick me up at the hospital and asked for the room to be cleaned within the next several hours, but when we arrived back at the hotel 3+ hours after that request, the room wasn’t ready. I sat on the sofa in the room until someone finally came and did the housekeeping.
On another day, we just requested fresh sheets and towels and my husband did that and the cleaning and dusting.
However, we are humans and our socks unravel and we drop potato chips on the floor so sometimes we really needed someone to vacuum.
On Friday, heading out to a doctor’s appointment in NYC, we again requested for the room to be cleaned while we were out -sometime in the next 3 hours, but when we returned we were disappointed.
This morning (Sunday) we went out at 11 after speaking directly with our housekeeper explaining that we were leaving expressly so that the room could be cleaned. We wandered New Jersey in the car for 3 hours and - you guessed it— came back to a room that had been untouched.
I sat in the air-conditioning of our car while my husband found someone to get someone to clean the room.
It’s been pretty frustrating, although the day after I came back from the hospital, Vince was nice enough to call to apologize about the room not being ready.
We have 5 more nights left here at this hotel. I wouldn’t...
