Read the whole review - My wife and I were looking for a nice place to spend the weekend for our 1st anniversary, I found the Grand Magnolia and it immediately caught my attention because it was something different. I made reservations for the weekend but in 2 different rooms because the room we really wanted was booked on Friday night but I was assured this wasn't a problem and that we could switch rooms on Saturday.
Overall a GREAT PLACE, would stay there again.
Pros: Comfortable, felt like home Close to lots of good eats and attractions Very reasonably priced House property is beautiful
Cons: Train runs through about every 2 hours, can be disturbing for light sleepers. Outside lights cannot be turned off and shine through the room doors. Felt rushed to exit the rooms in the morning so cleaning staff could do their job and leave (see more below)
As mentioned we booked 2 separate rooms we were told on arrival that check out time was 11am, Saturday morning as I was getting coffee around 9am I was told that our room for Saturday night had been vacated and was being cleaned, I thought to myself "wow that's awesome" so I went back to my room and started collecting my items, around 9:45 I popped out for a second cup of coffee just being a lazy Saturday morning I was just taking my time, I was told then by the staff that the room was ready for us to move over, I told the lady at that time my wife was currently in the shower and I was going to shower after her then we would be ready to move our stuff to the new room. I guessed it would be around 10:30, I was told "Oh you don't have to move if you don't want too and then I can just go now" I assured her that we did want to switch rooms and that we just needed a little more time, she then said that we needed to try to hurry cause she had other things to do that afternoon and she wanted to leave. I was a little taken back because I was told check out was 11 so I assumed we would be at least afforded that time to in the current room before moving to the new room, but didn't say anything except thank you we will be out of that room by 11. We got in the new room and everything seemed smooth from there. However the next morning it was the same story. We should of had until 11Am to check out but at 8:30 when I was getting coffee from the kitchen I was asked by the cleaning lady (sorry I don't remember her name) If she had checked us in, I said "no Ms Amy did" she replied "oh ok, did she tell you about check out?" I responded "yes it's 11AM" the lady replied "well you know I got to clean that room and I be trying to go to church" said I understand and went back to my room. I was questioned once more about when we would be leaving because she had already completed all other chores and was just waiting to clean our room. This greatly annoyed me as I feel if you expect guess to be out by 9AM then you need to make that your check out time not set your check out time at 11 and harass your guess until they finally leave.
The Garden Room - we stayed in this room on Friday night, was a very nice room, clean, tidy and spacious. Only issue I had with this room was the door has a large window in it (not see through but still let light come through) and the outside light cannot be turned off and there was no blind or curtain on the window, so the light from the outside porch light was pretty much in my face all night long. The Little Gem - We stayed in this room Saturday night, this was an amazing room it is HUGE with a giant bed and did have a blind on the door window so no outside light in my face all night as I had the previous night. Slept very well in this room. Only complaint regarding The Little Gem, was that you could hear conversation in the main house in the room so I assumed the people in the main house could hear the conversations from the room as well. Although that is to be expected with a...
Read moreI would not recommend working with Amy or Richard. The weekend started off by us having to wait for 2 extra hours for our rooms to be ready even though they were stated to be ready at a certain time. The following night a gas leak occurred in which I had to call the fire department myself because the owner nor “innkeeper” could be reached. The fire department confirmed & disconnected the gas line from the stove. All of my family & guests had to be evacuated for about 2 hours at 1am as we rented the whole house for 2 nights. I still did not hear from the management until 9am the following day, my wedding day. Neither Amy or Richard deemed it necessary to meet with me at all throughout our trip even though there was a gas leak. There were hiccups with ceremony that they tried to say I didn’t tell them necessary details so I kindly sent screenshots of the exact conversation that in fact did occur. My chairs made it there at the end of the day but the communication & commitment to your wedding will be subpar with these people. No prices are ever itemized so what you’re actually paying for is a mystery. I requested a refund for the night of the gas leak & they decided to “wash” it all because we supposedly owed more money toward the consumption rate for beer even though it was set for higher than the amount of people showed. I will never know the actual cost as a count was never provided for me. Since this they have decided to cease contact so the property the staff locked up the night before we packed up & was not allowed to retrieve, will also be a “wash”. So all in all, between missing property, severe lack of communication, & terrible business etiquette, I would never recommend the grand magnolia ballroom...
Read moreThe Suites, parlour, common areas and the grounds here are STUNNING! MUCH MORE ELEGANT AND SERENE THAN depicted in the advertisement. What a comfortable (and compassionate) feeling sitting by the koi pond under the garden lights at night. Sadly we are visiting under circumstances surrounding my mother's decreasing health. Although the Inn is near capacity i believe, the private and intimate acvomidations are blessing my daughter and i with the only reprieve from sadness we will have during our stay here. I truly wish we could enjoy the place under different circumstances. Amy Chenoweth was kind enough to make arrangements for us to be received in her absence. We arrived late but Amy made me feel as if I was being welcomed home. My mother would truly love this place. I wish she were here to see it. It is very much our Style. The Grand Magnolia Ballroom exceeds any accommodations i could have hoped for in this vicinity up to 100 miles!!! Better than a 4 star hotel hands down. Thank you Amy for allowing us this little peice of Heaven during this emotional time in our life.... ( special thanks to the grey striped tabby for his friendly...
