Don't stay here unless you have to!! One good point is the carpet has been removed and replaced with hard flooring but I don't think it has been mopped since it was installed. We used our socks as slippers and they were black on the bottom. Hopefully, soaking in bleach will get them clean but doubtful. The very small bathroom does not have a ventilation fan so everything in there get dripping wet and the towels always feel damp, even the hand towels on the vanity. The room gets a damp feeling too. Don't look at the bottom of the shower curtain. It is black. Probably mildew stain. The towels are dingy looking. The beds are not true size Queen or Regular. They are smaller than normal sizing. An extra (too much) fee is charged for animals but the owners need to tell people who bring their dogs to PICK UP AFTER YOUR ANIMALS. No one likes to see poop in the grassy area in front of the inside rooms. Or, for the high pet fee charged, the motel owners should pick up everyday. We paid the extra fee and picked up after our small dog. No one even knew we had a dog unless they saw us walking her. The bed linens were clean, the furniture dusted but don't look at corners or top of receptables and cords. Don't expect to look out a clean window either. I don't understand the lack of cleaniness in so many motels anymore. If it had not been very inconvenient, we would have tried a motel in Tupelo. Maybe one day, a better managed motel will be built...
Read moreUpdated, clean, and comfortable! Don't let the exterior fool you. Sure it looks dated on the outside, but I'm not worried about that. I was in town for the football game and this is maybe 30 minutes to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Me and my buddy needed a place to stay and there's no vacancy in Oxford so here we go! We pull up and I'm like "um..ok". We don't care about frills or anything, we just need a place to crash after the game. We walk in the lobby to check in and the entire perception changed. The lobby was very clean and updated. The front desk was SO nice! The guy was chatting with us about our travels. It was around 12pm and check-in wasn't until 2pm, but he said he had a room ready and he let us go ahead and check-in and get to our room. Awesome! We get to the room and again, nice! It was updated, new floors, paint, everything. The tv was very nice and they also had a mini-fridge which seems to be uncommon in most places these days. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was nice, it was a great experience. Everything was clean, quiet, comfortable. I would definitely...
Read moreI was consulting in an office in Pontotoc and preferred to be close by (as opposed to driving the 20-30 minutes from hotels in neighboring towns.) The American Inn is the only motel in this town, I realized that the entry into the rooms was on the outside, which is not normally preferable for me, but I felt that for one night (actually less than 12 hours) I could be fine with that. I asked for a room on the ground floor on the well-lit front side (street side) of the building (mainly because I felt safer as a female traveling alone on that side) and was able to park my car close to the room. The owner checked me in and was very pleasant and accommodating. The room itself was modest but clean. (I stay in a lot of Hampton Inns so by now a hotel room is a hotel room is a hotel room.) The bed was comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. A downside was the street noise, but I did ask for that room and was able to use my white noise app to reduce it. The point is, I felt safe here and will return if back...
