Where do I start so we booked this venue to have our wedding and originally we were dealing with Riley half way through she went on Maternity leave, so we were now dealing with Samantha. That was all fine until the day we go to check in for our rooms we reserved for our wedding. We reserved 4 rooms 1 suite for me to get ready (2 nights), a 2 queen room for my husband to get ready in (2 nights 1 comped) and another 2 queen room (2 nights) and another room just for sun night. Upon check in, the older fella proceeds to tell us that he doesnt have a room for my husband after rudely telling us one at a time. When clearly we were checking in together He then tells us they are sold out. Are you serious? This has been set for months. So they mysteriously find him a king room. So then Wedding day Sunday. All seems well until after the ceremony. Then we go right into the reception. Everyone gets their food. Which by the way is not what I remember taste testing. It was all lacking taste and chicken seemed like it wasn't even cooked. The night continues seems like the staff went on a break and they just stopped clearing tables. Then about 945 one of the wait staffs approaches me on my wedding night mind u and asks me if we can speak in the hallway. Where she then wants to complain about my Dj saying they have asked him to turn the music down several times. I said we have an hour and 15 mins left. No we paid a lot of money for this venue like 12k to be exact to be harassed about the music. Don't say a shut down time of 11pm if its really 9pm. Then their bartender served an under age person and they harassed that person bc they served him and was gonna call the cops. Instead of just pulling their bartender. The hotels whole story the for the night was that business people were complaining. yeah then dont have a venue at a hotel. We paid alot of money for this. You should be telling people upon check in there's a wedding till 11pm. End of story. My husband is a business man as well. He's also a diamond member with Hilton, exactly why we picked this venue. Staff ruined my wedding night. You should NEVER be approaching the Bride on her wedding night period. Thanks so much for the hospitality NOT. my opinion skip this venue...
Read moreSpent a night at Double Tree Hotel with a south facing view of the St Clair River. All went pretty well from check-in to check-out. Room view was okay, but not the best. Stayed at the end room next to the restaurant, so the view of the Blue Water Bridge, the north section of the river and Lake Huron wasn't the greatest. Room was very clean and furniture was in decent shape. Beds were comfy as was the bedding. Nice wall art, too. Dual cup coffee maker was sweet. Smaller bathroom, but updated and clean. Loved the balcony area with wrought iron chairs, but seats not cushioned. Had a decent southern view of the river. Great size TV and many areas to put your clothes. Front desk staff were extremely nice and very helpful. All the employees here were friendly and professional. Lobby area was clean and beautiful. Gift shop was nice (super stocked with souvenirs). Since this was a special 81st birthday celebration for my father, I chose to have the breakfast buffet at Freighters Eatery added to my reservation. The restaurant is attached to DT and that made it so convenient. Love Freighters and visit often for lunch, so it was nice to try the breakfast buffet. Wow! I was impressed. They had so much to choose from for breakfast. Food was very good with the only exception being the eggs. They were very dry. Everything else was fantastic. Highly recommend the buffet if staying. You won't regret it. This is my first time at a Hilton brand hotel and I enjoyed my stay at Double Tree. A bit pricey for a night, ($206 on a weekday and w/o breakfast), but for a special occasion, this stay was worth the extra money. We all had...
Read moreThe hotel is very nice. The room we stayed in was comfortable, had everything needed for a weekend stay including a balcony with a view of the bridge to Canada and the water with the boats and freighters going by. The room itself needed overhead lighting it was dark. There were lamps on the night stands, a small desk lamp, and a small reading lamp by the chair. That was it for lights....you couldn't see to read paper pick out your clothes or anything else in the main room. The entry area had recessed lights and the bathroom very nice. It was a tub not the large showers with glass doors at most luxury hotels but nicely tiled with a clean large counter, everything that was needed. And plenty of light. The hotel amenities included pool with hot tub and a gym both were nice and clean the pool was not crowded when we visited it also was not over chlorinated so we were able to use it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are at Freighters the hotel restaurant, unless you want to drive to Port Huron or Fort Gratiot for another restraunt. Freighters staff is very pleasant and helpful. Food was good. They just have a very small menu. In the mornings they do have a breakfast buffet. The gift shop is cute and I would love to take the greeter bear home with me. Places near by: The St Clair River is across the street. There is a walking path with a gallery of statues at one end. The Tomas Edison train depot is within walking distance (shares a parking lot I think). It is kind of an interesting place if you have a couple of hours....
